Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Only course clos to Nags Head

The course is nice and requires target golf. Wind affects most shots but greens are soft and hold. Good layout but houses are in play on some holes.

Course was very tight

Best bet buy the yardage book from clubhouse.Leave your driver in the bag,not worth hitting too much trouble.Very tight course enjoyed the views from the sound side of the course.Wind conditions also makes this course play tough sometimes 2 club difference.Only complaint $99.00 green fees could be a little cheaper after Labor Day.

Good Course - Windy

This is a good links style course. It is not long, but missed shots are penalized. And it is almost always windy, so be ready. It was blowing 15 - 20 the day I played.

Great course!

Greens had been punched and sanded and though were healing well, they were ugly slow and that took away from the round. Still this is a fine course if you like first-rate shot-maker challenges. Not designed for bombers. Best be on the short grass, because this course eats balls if you miss.

Challenging course when the wind is up!

I love this course!! Try to play it every time I'm in the Outer Banks. Course was in good shape, greens receptive from recent rains. Wind towards the sound made the scenic holes very challenging. Check fescue if short on balls, I found a dozen on first two holes waiting for group in front. Course was not crowded and they sent me off as a single until a twosome caught me. Two great guys from NE area! Super day out on the course with awesome views of the sound!!

Great staff

Great course and in good condition. Played there twice now. Both times played in less than 4 hours. The staff went out of their way to please us. We had a seven year old with us and the staff went out of their way to accommodate him and set him up with the proper clubs. Recommend this course as a must play. Several holes right on the ocean.

Beautiful

My foursome and I had a great time. The course wasn't long, but the windy conditions made it very interesting. Would be a great place to play again with some knowledge of where the best place to aim would be. Greens in great shape and the fairways were plush. Don't hit it off the fairway. Natural grasses and undergrowth await to gobble up lost balls. Keep the ball in play and you will have a great time. I hope to come back again.

Nags Head - Short but still challenging

I've played Nags Head about a dozen times over the years and have found the course condition to be very consistent - very good to superior. Many of the holes have creeks or other hazard that prevents you from pulling the driver out of your bag. Therefore, the posted length of the hole is deceiving. I have found the wind is the course's most troubliing defense against posting lower scores. The greens run true, but be sure to view every putt from both sides of the hole or be prepared to be fooled.

Golf Along the Sound

If you like seaside golf then you will love some of the golf holes out here. Beautiful scenic holes along the sound.

Course unfortunately is extremely short only 6100 yards from the tips. Course will be as tough as the wind is blowing. Several holes the wind was two club difference. There are a lot of holes where you need to pay attention to the 150 yard markers because past that there is trouble you can't see off the tee.

Definitely recommended this as a course to play when on the OBX.

Better than fishing.

I recently moved to Frisco, NC. As there are no courses around and being a novice at fishing not to mention the money buying all the equipment, I needed to play golf. The nearest course is Nags Head links and what a joy. Course is fair, challenging and aesthetically beautiful. Staff was great, as was the food. I love this course and plan to come back, again and again. Thank you and go Seahawks!

Disappointed

Read some reviews on this course and thought I would give it a try. Disappointed in the practice range. Didn't expect to be hitting plastic golf balls that all had dents in them. Had to walk a lot due to cart path only on several holes. Course layout was good. Scenery was excellent. Needs better outline of each hole at tee boxes. Overall 5/10. Won't be back anytime soon to this course.

A nice place to play

The staff is excellent all around. The course can play easy or hard depending on how hard the wind is blowing. Great views of the sound. The greens were very soft which is good for accepting shots, but makes them bumpy for putting sometimes. Hit to the wide spots on the fairways since missed fairways can be lost balls many times.

Nags Head Golf

Suggest not looking at yardage when deciding which tees to play, look at slope rating instead. We played Black tees since only 6,100 yes and was big mistake. Small landing areas trying to use driver and wind off of bay makes many holes challenging. Course in good condition and pace of play was also good. Had fun but more fun if we played more forward tees.

Challenging

This tight course will test your golf skills! Not only are the fairways narrow but with many water and marsh hazards jetting out into the fairways it calls for specific straight iron distance shots! Playing this course for the first time......my golf buddy and I found it very challenging ! The greens and fairways were in good shape for late summer play and the views of the bay were beautiful! The starter was engaging!
