Beautiful course
I recently played an 18-hole round at Holly Ridge and overall had a pretty solid experience. This course is a great pick if you’re visiting the Outer Banks and want a relaxed game without paying big resort prices. It’s an 18-hole, par-71 layout with some water hazards and a few quirky shot opportunities that keep things interesting without being intimidating. The staff were friendly and the pace of play was easygoing — perfect for a vacation round or for beginners looking to work on their game. The driving range is a nice bonus (lighted in the evenings!), and there’s a practice putting/chipping area to warm up beforehand.
it’s definitely more of a casual, laid-back course rather than a championship track. If you’re a beginner or just looking for a fun, budget-friendly round near the OBX, this is a solid choice.

Good Conditions, Friendly Staff
Holly Ridge Golf Course offers a fun, straightforward layout that’s enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels. The course is well maintained, with solid fairways, smooth greens, and consistent playing conditions throughout the round. The design is fair but still challenging enough to keep things interesting, especially when the wind picks up. Staff are friendly and the overall atmosphere is relaxed, making it a great spot for both locals and visitors looking for good value and an enjoyable round of golf.
Not the worst course
Played Holly Ridge recently. The greens were some of the smallest I’ve ever seen and not in great shape — bumpy and inconsistent. The layout was tough to follow with little to no signage between holes, which made it confusing at times. Staff was friendly and a bit above average, but overall the course needs better maintenance and clearer direction.
Nice value
Good value course. Plenty of trouble but also very open on some holes. Small greens creates some defense.
First time
My first time here in OBX as well as my first round since the week of Memorial Day. Choose this course because of proximity to my rental as well as the cost for a round. Glad I did!! I definitely was NOT disappointed in the venue and highly recommend to anyone. Average to below average golfers will find this a great place to learn. About average, low handicappers, can definitely use it as a warm up for later rounds at bigger courses.
Super short course that’s good for beginners. If you’re looking for a challenging golf course as an experienced golfer, it’s not worth the price.
Very interesting layout
Never played a course with 3 par 3’s in a row and 2 par 5’s in a row. The layout was very interesting. Some additional signage indicating location of tee boxes would be very helpful due to the unorthodox layout. Course was fairly short even from the tips but a bit deceiving in regards to difficulty. Some interesting water hazards in unexpected places and not shown on the scorecard. Overall it was quite enjoyable and seemed to be in excellent shape. Tee boxes could have used a little more grooming on that particular day. Majority of the holes were pretty straight forward but all the greens were like postage stamps(small). Fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Took advantage of the Veterans discount which made the affordability that much better. My son and I played the round in just under 3 hours !
Quick golf
Played Sunday on a hot deal, no issues with pace of play, laid back atmosphere. Shorter course, plays quick, and was in better shape the previous years. A few greens were rough but majority of the course overall was in great shape. Played 18 in just over 3 hours, some holes are challenging with narrow greens, but was worth the cost.
Wish there was a Holly Ridge in every town.
This is a friendly environment where the game is approachable for a variety of skill levels. The course has a number of shorter Par 3s but then mixes in some nicely challenging tighter long holes with water hazards that pose a challenge. The driving range has yardage markers scattered throughout to help golfers dial in their distances prior to a round. This course is not trying to be a fancy, expensive experience. The one wish would be for larger greens as many are very small and firm requiring pinpoint precision. A great family course!
Unexpected golf outing
Wanted to play so golf on vacation. Found this course on golfnow site, with a hot deal offering. Course was challenging with a lot of water around greens. All and all great day playing golf. No wait was even able to start early. Only 30 minutes from were we stayed in Nags Head, NC.
First timer
My husband and I played at Holly Ridge for the first time. The staff were very friendly. The course grounds looked well kept. We thoroughly enjoyed playing our 9 holes and hitting the driving range afterwards. We will be back for sure.
Nice course
Good course with reasonable fees. Course is short by most standards. Plays completely different from white and blue tees. Course was in good shape. Tee boxes, fairways snd greens.
