Nags Head Golf Links
About
Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Several holes run along the sound, and make Nags Head a very picturesque course. Photo submitted by JohnL1848734 on 09/08/2022

Nice course
First time playing here. Nice but a little pricey relative to my home courses. Decent value relative to the Obx. Driving range was very disappointing with the limited flight golf balls.
Challenging gem
Beautiful narrow course with good greens. Wind is always a challenge. Staff is friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Tuna melt!!
The course
The staff and condition of the course was excellent
First time and loved the course
Nags Head Golf Links is pretty much the only game in town if you're out on Hatteras but it does not disappoint. It was pretty windy when I played which increased the challenge on this relatively short course. Overall, the course conditions were excellent and we finished our round in 3 ½ hours, a bonus and rarity these days. I definitely recommend Nags Head to any golfer with reasonable skills. Several holes are nestled in amongst homes so golfers must take care not to spray the ball around.
Short and tight
The course is short and tight. Some holes are on the ocean and the wind was really a factor with at least a two club difference. The greens hold well. I would like to play it again but not for $99. Later tee times are cheaper.
Awesome course
Played on a crazy windy day. Beautiful course and a friendly and helpful staff. Great experience!
tight, fair, strategic
My first time in Obx and my first experience with CoastaL North Carolina golf. .NagS Head made a great first impression. in season cheaper on weekends than on weekdays. for a lot of players, driver stays in the bag as often as not. great turf conditions. quick greens and scenic course especially the water holes! unfortunately, some of the real estate comes into play.. staff could not have been nicer!
Fun time and fair price with late play discount
Generally a nice clean, aesthetically pleasing, challenging course. While not a good player, I lost 10 balls due to trees, rough, and water hazards. New record for me. Great views along the sound.
fun time, use discount
Fun and challenging and close.
You can tell how your round was by number of balls lost.
Very tight course but playable
Nags Head is very scenic and has many very good holes that challenge even the better golfers. The greens were on the slow side as they really had not been cutting them it appeared....esp. on the front nine. We were on vacation and were looking for one course to play a round on and Nag's Head won as I found a nice deal on Golfnow.com.
Would recommend and play again.
Great scenery
Very nice course
Shot makers course but very enjoyable
Bang For The Buck
Great track on the OBX. Got on at a discounted evening rate, played 18holes and was not disappointed 1 bit. Leave your driver in the bag and you will enjoy this great links style course just as much as I did. Course was in tip-top shape from tee to green. I would highly recommend playing here on your next trip to the OBX. I repeat, leave the big stick in the bag.
Fantastic course, worth a trip!
I stayed down in Southern Outer Banks and wanted to play a round of golf with some family, so we booked a 5PM tee time for 3 of us at Nags Head Links. The weather was PERFECT that day so we should have expected a crowded course, which we got.
That being said, this is surely a course where you don't mind waiting at most tee boxes. There's plenty of scenery around and a lot of strategy in each shot. Definitely a risk/reward course.
I would 100% play here again. It's a somewhat challenging course with plenty of good views to keep you busy. And the staff was extremely polite. In fact, we managed to lose a club and it seemed they did everything in their power to get it back to us. Very friendly of them.
Great Golf
What a great golf experience. The course is first rate and very challenging. The staff was great, especially Tara the traveling concession lady. She was very friendly and super helpful. I wish our girl back on my home course was like her. The course met all of my expectations, and I look forward to playing it again next year. It is worth playing if you love golf. My compliments to the ground staff, they should be very proud. My only tip is don't miss the fairway and the greens hold right to the oin.
Beautiful Course but not Scottish links-style
Incredible course conditions, friendly staff, and beautiful ocean views. Fairly short holes but extremely unforgiving. I've never lost so many balls. The woods/brush is super dense. Don't even bother looking for your ball if it's not immediately visible. Maybe my I have the wrong picture in mind for Scottish links, but in my opinion the description is way off base. The course is surrounded by homes and some holes are somewhat noisy due to passing traffic. At no point did I feel like I was truly away from the hectic world I like to escape when I golf. I like courses that take you farther away from society where I can only hear the sounds of nature. This was far from that experience. Overall, a pleasure to play at the discounted price of $69, but I would not pay more.
Nag's Head
Course has a number of blind tee shots. A feature that doesn't make sense for guests.
Sound side holes are interesting but the holes winding through the development much less so.
There is not much margin for error as shots just off the fairway are readily lost. Off fairway grooming could be much better.
I rate value for the money as low.
Choose Tee Box wisely
Not a long course, but if you play the tips you are going to have some long carries on tee shots. Unless you are very accurate with 220 yd tee shots at sea level , Play the whites !!! I wish someone had told me this , I would have enjoyed the round much more.
Nice Scenic
Myself and two friends recently played Nags Head while on vacation at the OBX. The course itself was very fun and has beautiful views of the bay. The fairways were in excellent shape, the greens were good but could have been a little more consistent speed wise hole to hole. The pace of play was very good, we were almost never waiting on a tee box. However, the staff we dealt with while there were extremely rude! The two younger gentleman in the pro shop acted very uninterested in helping us check in and seemed to be rather bothered by us even being in there. Then once we got to the first tee and were met by the starter, we experienced further ignorance. He continued to tell us how late we were (only 2 mins, which was mostly due to the fact that the two guys in the pro shop took their time checking us in). Then he proceeded to tell us how to play the course.. "If I were you guys, I wouldn't hit this on that hole" etc. There's a difference between giving helpful tips and giving orders, there were definitely given in a boisterous and ignorant manner. My friend had gone into the clubhouse to drop off the cart key and was greeted by the same started who said "well, it's about time" in an very annoyed manner. I usually don't write negative reviews unless they're really warranted, but in this case it definitely was! It's a shame such a nice course is run by people like that.. I won't be playing there again during any future visits to the Outer Banks.
Short, but plays longer
This is a beautiful golf course, several holes along the sound are spectacular. The wind was up, and made for very tricky conditions. Greens are slower than I would have thought, but they have had a lot of rain lately. Put away the driver, you won't need it, you want to keep it in the fairway. Fun course to play, but a little pricey for me, played super twilight rates, made it more cost effective, but also the windiest time of day, plus a 10 minute downpour in the wind, which is also a common occurrence at that time of day. Pace of play was brisk, sub four hour.
Great links course
First hole very easy, from there course is Fairly challenging. Holes on bay side can be very windy.
Played with friend and we enjoyed yourselves.
