Stunning sound-side water views and a well-designed layout consistently make Nags Head a must-play destination on the Outer Banks. Fairways and greens stay in excellent condition, and the welcoming staff genuinely enhance every round.

Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Beautiful sound side course

One of my favorite outer banks courses to play when on the family vacation. The 4 holes along the sound are outstanding. Short course, yet still a fun challenge. Definitely leave the driver in the bag. Use GPS since some holes have some blind shots where yardage is a challenge. Overall, it's the best 6000 yards I've played.

Nags Head links

I love playing this course. Though it is usually windy, this day was perfect. It winds along the sound, and is just a beautiful course for scenery. It is short, but narrow, and with some well placed dunes, can make this a challenge. I highly recommend it.

Nice Course, aerated greens

First time playing a links style course and it was certainly a challenge! Course itself was in great shape. Greens had been recently aerated and were poor at best. Pro shop said it had been done 2 weeks prior but the greens were still like putting on a cheese grater.

Good course, good value

We played as a foursome behind a tournament and the pace was good. The course is in very good condition and the greens putted nicely. We were amazed at the undulations of the various holes given this is a beach setting. Challenging enough for all four of us. We ended up playing two rounds over the weekend here.

Target Golf

This course is more difficult than it looks on the scorecard. The wind comes into play big time and it requires a lot of course management. Purchase the yardage book!

Retirement course

Nice place to warm up for the big course. The place is beautiful the people are nice and helpful. The course is too short from the tips. Several holes required irons from the tee or ended up being driver wedge. This is a great course for a family outing.

Good vacation course

Overall, the Nags Head Links is a good vacation course. The fairways and greens were in good shape, and the staff was very friendly. I suggest using a range-finder or buying a yardage book in the pro-shop as there many of the holes have deceiving carry distances due to the backdrops of the course and there are a few blind shots.

The course has enough nuance to offer a challenge to skilled golfers (although it's short) but is very playable for the casual "vacation" golfer.

I would recommend this course to a friend, and will play here again in the future.

Beware the Wind

Not a long course but the wind makes it play way longer!
Entire course was in great shape! If you don't have a GPS, get a yardage book! Plays completely different on a NE versus a SW wind. Bring lots of golf balls!!

Good spot

Nags Head is a nice course that requires some serious accuracy with the driver. The wind, which was not so bad when we played, could cause one to change to irons if you are not accurate off the tee. Nice water views, course in good shape. I will be back!

The course is a nice challenging Links course.

I am a senior and this is a nice challenging and scenic course for all levels of play. I played from the longer tees and was more challenged than I had hoped but it was fun and enjoyable. I'm planning on playing again but from the senior tees and should score much better. This course is well worth the drive and money to experience.

Nags Head Review

This was a great course. Even though it only said 6,100 yards on the card it played like about 6,600. It was a great layout, friendly staff and we had a great time.

A must play when at OBX

Truly enjoyed our first ever round on the course. Many blind shots from the tees. Quite an adventure. I had plenty of chances for birdies. Ended up with 9 pars. But there are also some double and triple bogies waiting for you. Beautiful view of the sound on several holes.

A round in 2 1/2 hours

The course was in very good condition, however the greens had been recently aerated, but were not unplayable. A midday tee time allowed me to play my 18 in 2 1/2 hours as a single. One must have local knowledge of the course layout, as some 2nd shots must be placed in specific areas on the par 5's. Rough is dense, just consider the ball as lost and play on if you hit in there. If you are a high handicapper take lots of balls. I will play the course again when I go back to Nags Head. Enjoyed my round.

Love the layout, greens needed work.

Don't be fooled by the length and rating of this course. It can be very difficult in direct relation to the wind on a given day. Some beautiful views of the sound and very interesting holes. The greens were soft to the point of spongy and uneven as a result difficult to putt on. Tees and fairways were very nice however. We try to play this course at least once when we vacation but need to look for deals as the normal fee is expensive.

Nice course

First time playing here. Nice but a little pricey relative to my home courses. Decent value relative to the Obx. Driving range was very disappointing with the limited flight golf balls.
