Great if the price is right
Let me start out by saying that this is one of my favorite places to play in the area, so take this criticism for what it is worth. One of the reasons I like playing here is because it is within walking distance from my house. Here is the bad: This course gets a lot of play. It is a public course that doesn't require tee times, so you get a lot of people who go here knowing that they will get out. There are also a lot of people who play here who don't necessarily understand golf ettiquette. Because of this, the greens can be a little rough from unrepaired ball marks, and the bunkers aren't always raked. I don't think it is worth the price if you don't use Groupon or Golf Now or another discounted program. $45 dollars?! It's not on par (no pun intended) with The Neuse or UNC Finley, or any other top name in the area. It is worth the $24 I paid through Golf Now. The only other negative is the counter help (Bill) could use some tips on how to provide better customer service. Despite the fact that there is a lot of play, the course is in very good condition.
Good value priced course. Greens below average condition.
Always busy, can be slow play if you get behind a logjam of groups. Course layout is good, requires a variety of shots. Greens were unmowed and a lot of small weeds noticeable, on a Wednesday afternoon.
Nice course
This is a nice course for the money if your looking for an easy course that plays very short. A chance to put some low numbers on the board.
Starter very helpful
Considering all of the rain, course in very good conditon
Weekly play
Enjoyed playing. Course a little wet. We've had a lot of rain in the area. But considering that, the course played pretty good
Coarse in great shape
We did not know what to expect on a Sunday late morning, we had a 11:00 voucher, we got there and were able to start early. We were not rushed at all through out the day.
We had a great day of golf, looking forward to going back.
Always a pleasure to play
Pretty open course with a few bunkers surrounding a few of the greens.
It Is What It Is
Course was in decent shape. Some of the fairways were a little patchy but it's to be expected at RGA.
Greens were rolling pretty decent. For the money, I'd say its worth it.
Great basic course, with always super friendly staff!
Super value for your money. No standing water after heavy rain, and that's the reason why we chose this course!
Good Course
This is a good course, but it does not take tee times, it is first come first serve. Golf Now should let you know when you purchase that you may not necessarily get out on time. That being said, we arrived at 7:30am and were able to get out on time.
Not exactly delightful
The staff wasn't exactly thrilled to have our business, he seemed like it was more of a pain for him to check us in and get things squared away. We ended up getting rained about the 4th hole, so clearly we asked for a rain check. Again, he didn't seem to want to help us. The worst part of the visit was our golfnow.com rate was $35 for 18 (afternoon tee time), I asked him if this was good for 18 holes whenever we came back, he said no, it was only good for $35 and if we came back the same time next week, we would have to pay an additional $10, his reason being we got our tee time through golf now, but he would not honor the same deal next weekend... I will go back to use my rain check, but that will be it. Very poor service in my opinion. I hope your experience is better.
RGA Short
Not a bad course fairly well maintained. Fairly short even from the blue tee boxes.
For the money I think I'd rather play a course that's a little more challenging and longer.
Old Style Muni
Long standing course with history. Layout isn't particularly memorable, but it gives plenty of room for all levels of play. No tee times makes for interesting banter while waiting to tee off, but it offers opportunity to mix and mingle while waiting your turn.
This course had great fairways
The fairways were wide and straight. Well maintained and the greens were well maintained also. Not a lot of sand traps and water so you can pretty much grip it and rip it on the course.
Very good public course
RGA was in great playing condition this past Memorial Day. Greens were in excellent shape and fairways/rough were also in great shape. Our foursome was able to complete our round in 4 hours and only had to wait to hit a couple of times. Very reasonable for holiday play (36/person with cart). Definitely will be back.
Great conditions!
Greens were in excellent shape - except for the un-repaired ballmarks made by uncaring golfers. The only thing this course is missing is a driving range to help you loosen up before playing. Great value for the money. And, they let you walk!!
Great Course!
I have always loved RGA. I found them to be a bit over-priced, but now with GolfNow, I will be playing there more!
Traditional layout, not very long.
RGA is a fun, well-maintained course to play. Small firm greens provide challenges, especially when chipping. Greens are not the fastest in the world, but in good shape and consistent. Fairways are coming in nicely. Some tee boxes were in need of attention. Overall good value and nice course for the price, being so close to downtown Raleigh. My only complaint was slow play. We teed off on time at 9:40 AM on Saturday and finished 5 1/2 hours later. We asked and were told this is not typical, a tournament that AM had crowded the course.
Crowded!
The course overall is fine, about average and the price was good. The problem was that they allowed so many people on the course that when we got there for our tee time, they were out of carts. I figured they must be recharging and didn't give it much thought. When we got a cart and went on the course we discovered that the course was packed with players. On the 7th hole (the second par three on the front 9) there were literally three groups waiting to tee off. We waited on every hole on the front and it took us over 3 hours to finish. I will not be coming back.
great little course will play again
short from white tees good layout
greens a little slow at this time.
definitely will play again If you had not played RGA I would give it a try.
