Old Style Muni
Long standing course with history. Layout isn't particularly memorable, but it gives plenty of room for all levels of play. No tee times makes for interesting banter while waiting to tee off, but it offers opportunity to mix and mingle while waiting your turn.
This course had great fairways
The fairways were wide and straight. Well maintained and the greens were well maintained also. Not a lot of sand traps and water so you can pretty much grip it and rip it on the course.
Very good public course
RGA was in great playing condition this past Memorial Day. Greens were in excellent shape and fairways/rough were also in great shape. Our foursome was able to complete our round in 4 hours and only had to wait to hit a couple of times. Very reasonable for holiday play (36/person with cart). Definitely will be back.
Great conditions!
Greens were in excellent shape - except for the un-repaired ballmarks made by uncaring golfers. The only thing this course is missing is a driving range to help you loosen up before playing. Great value for the money. And, they let you walk!!
Great Course!
I have always loved RGA. I found them to be a bit over-priced, but now with GolfNow, I will be playing there more!
Traditional layout, not very long.
RGA is a fun, well-maintained course to play. Small firm greens provide challenges, especially when chipping. Greens are not the fastest in the world, but in good shape and consistent. Fairways are coming in nicely. Some tee boxes were in need of attention. Overall good value and nice course for the price, being so close to downtown Raleigh. My only complaint was slow play. We teed off on time at 9:40 AM on Saturday and finished 5 1/2 hours later. We asked and were told this is not typical, a tournament that AM had crowded the course.
Crowded!
The course overall is fine, about average and the price was good. The problem was that they allowed so many people on the course that when we got there for our tee time, they were out of carts. I figured they must be recharging and didn't give it much thought. When we got a cart and went on the course we discovered that the course was packed with players. On the 7th hole (the second par three on the front 9) there were literally three groups waiting to tee off. We waited on every hole on the front and it took us over 3 hours to finish. I will not be coming back.
great little course will play again
short from white tees good layout
greens a little slow at this time.
definitely will play again If you had not played RGA I would give it a try.
Fun course!
Great experience. Slow greens but well maintained. They don't have tee times so we were fortunate not to have to wait long to tee off. Definitely hit or miss on when you start, regardless of tee time purchased on Golfnow.
Nice hilly course.
First time I played this course in 37 years. The routing is pretty much the same except for the adding of the 12th par three. They did a great job with the redo. The greens have all been redone as have the bunkers. Also, quiet a bit of mounding has been added. The last six holes might be the hardest in the area.
No tee time. Waited an hour.
Will never go back. Waited on each tee box for 15 min. Took 51/2 hours.
Friendly fellow golfers and good looking greens
It was a beautiful day so I decided to check out GolfNow for a good deal on a course nearby and decided to give RGA a try. I haven't played there in about 15 years and was surprised to find the greens in great condition for this time of year. Although I had decided to play by myself for a practice round to break the winter rust, I was soon invited to join a threesome and had a great time with some very friendly regulars of the course.
Great course, nice greens...slow but in great shape.
I had a blast, this is a great little course for the money and a very relaxed place to play, no snooty people here. You can walk and feel comfortable as well.
Good Course
I enjoyed the 18 holes I played here. It had rained the day before but the course had drained pretty well in a short time. I played the Blue Tees and the course was still very short. I don't drive the ball a long way but i was close to the green on 9 and 10 (roughly 300 yards on both). It was an open course with no water that comes into play except one hole and it really is not too much in play. The greens were in good shape and rolled pretty true. The course is not too much of challenge but it is a nice place to play. I just booked to play here again.
This course is enjoyable to play
The course has twenty seven holes. Nine of those belong to the stockholders. Usually they are not available for play by the general public. We were able to play the stockholders nine due to one of the nines being closed. The stockholders nine is a notch above the public course both in appearance and difficulty. Still fun to play.
Well maintained public golf course.
Course in good shape. Great price and enjoyable round. Golf course is not hard but enjoyed playing there and would definately return.
Great Course for Beginners
RGA is a course that has the following qualities:
-Open fairways, easy to find your ball, but still forces you to play your shot to avoid the trees
-Only 1 water hazard
-Great for beginners or someone wanting to work on new adjustments in their swing
-The fairway, rough, and greens are all different lengths
Great beginner course
This course has wide open fairways, not too many hazards, and distance shouldn't be a problem. Great for beginners.
Stress-free enjoyable course
RGA is a classic local no-frills course that most everybody can enjoy. It's perfect for the average golfer who wants to work on their mid-range and short game. The greens are always in terrific shape and there are not a lot of crazy layouts. With that, there are some penalties for errant shots, so it does provide a decent test.
Fast play and good shape
Course played really fast. Greens were slow but in great shape. Pin positions were challenging but otherwise easy.
