the course is a bit tore up
I like then course, but it always seems sorta roughed up. always a lot of cart ruts on the course.
Fun to play though
Great Value
Course in good shape. Greens had some bare spots but rolled true. CoVid protocols meant that bunkers were not ideal since there are no rakes to be found.
Enjoyable
This course was great for a newbie like me (6mos). No water to intimidate me but I did have to play smart around the bunkers. Pretty flat fairways. Greens were patchy but it was a good course to add to my golf journey. I would return...especially on a dryer day!
Great track poor conditions
Stopped here to play on the way back from Myrtle Beach to NJ. It was only $25 on TeeOff but I guess you get what you pay for. Fairways mostly weeds and very thin grass, like hitting off deadpan. Greens were actually pretty good but very slow - this may have been due to the rain from the previous night. The layout was actually very nice, this could be a great course if they put some money and proper maintenance into the place.
Worse Course Ever
This course was the worse I have ever seen. It was not maintained at all. The greens were horrible. I asked when was it closing because it NEEDS TO CLOSE. The sand traps are more like weed traps. I can’t believe this was once a ACC tournament course. The cart paths felt like I needed a side by side to drive on them. Close this course or close it to fix it. Ant hills on 1st tee box and every else.
Save your money
Not worth playing period. No fairways, greens are eaten up and bunkers haven’t even been weed wacked in years! This place should pay people to play it! They win the award for the best worst golf course in the country. I have played cow pastures in Texas that were better maintained than this.
Needs some love
The course needs a lot of attention to details. It’s fun to play and has a great layout but the greens and fairways are in bad shape
Northgreen
Course is in overall poor condition. Greens are spotty, bunkers are muddy and poorly maintained, grass, etc.
Paths rough to ride, bumps, holes, and even covered with debris in places.
Would not recommend this course, at this time.
Great layout but needs work
Very much enjoyed playing this course. Would be great if they put money into it, i.e. bunkers, fairway and rough. Considering how much rain they recently had, course reasonably dry so we could drive on the fairways. Staff was very welcoming. Although we’re from out of state, would like to play again when in the area.
Staff friendly, course not
Although the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the course is horrible. The layout isn’t horrible but the conditions seem that the ownership isnt putting a penny in to maintain. I play 2 rounds a week all over the triangle and wanted to try out something different and I won’t make that mistake again. Greens aren’t bad but soft as a pillow. But I lost over 3 sleeves of balls in the fairway/rough(can’t tell the difference). Would not recommend and didn’t even finish my round due to course quality and waiting for 30 minutes just to tee off on the back. I’m a 15-20 handicap and pretty new to the game but this is def the worse out of the 30 courses I have played.
Course with a long history in need of a makeover
Upon arrival it was quite noticeable that the entire facility was in need of a makeover. Everything about this course screams the 1980s. There is a large sign hanging at the clubhouse listing winners of the ACC golf champions played there in the past.. A real who's who of players. Unfortunately the place looks tired and poorly maintained. The gentleman in the pro shop was awesome. He was very friendly and offered us a free yardage book and gave us tips on several holes since it was our first time. Fairways are sparse in places and are mostly weeds and common grasses. Most of the greens are decent but some bald spots.
Northgreen
The course was soggy like everywhere else but was playable. Fairways had good grass and greens were better than expected. Not much maintenance around edges and cart paths but a nice layout for the price. I would play again.
Quick update on the course
Progress for sure! 2017 has been a good year if you are trying to grow grass and the Northgreen staff have been working hard and smart. Still a few fairways that need some time to fill in but the majority are looking good! Greens are almost 100% back!!
If you haven't tried this course for a few years you need to give it another try!!
It's coming back
Northgreen has seen some rough times over the last few years. New owners in 2016 has changed everything and Northgreen is a golf course that should now be on everyone's radar. Great staff, range, new golf carts and a brand new snack bar/grill room offers the golfer all that a great round of golf needs. Two years ago I'd give it a 4 but as of July 2017 I give it an 8 looking at a 9. One year ago there were only 50 members and now there are over 1000. Come see for yourself. Northgreen's back in the game!!
Give Northgreen Another Try!
In the early 1980s Northgreen was one of the areas premier courses. But after a string of owners the course conditions eroded to the point where it just wasn't fun to play. Well . . . new owners and a great pro and course superintendent have totally turned this course around. It's almost back to its 1980s glory! Greens and fairways are back! The only thing needed is some bunker work and this course will be top quality (The recent Hurricane Matthew flooding only affected two holes and these should be fixed back up soon!). Fairways are generous but have out-of-bounds on both sides for virtually every hole!
Good Layout, Marginal Condition
A good layout with a nice variety of par 4's. Par 3's are challenging. Played from white tees at 6400 yds. Greens were so-so, some perfect, some with large bare spots. Greens are faster than they look. Fairways had patches of weeds. Rough is "rough"....weeds, hard pan. Hole #10 is quirky, layup to pond with a 4 iron leaving another 4 iron up to the green or hit driver over the pond.....about a 230 yd carry.....I did neither! With some TLC, this could be a great course. IMO, play here on a Hot Deal otherwise Belmont Lake is a much better play.
Could be great
Tee and fairways could use some TLC, dry but what should I expect in summer. With some money to run the sprinklers in the fairways could be great. The greens are coming around, a few bare spots but roll true with descent spend.
For the money I will be back to see if things improve
