A Great Course to Play
Tee boxes just a bit hard to place the tee into the very hard ground. Also sand trap sand needs improvement. The consistency of the sand heavy. Although I would rate the overall condition of the course as excellent. Love to play on courses that have nice fairway, scenic views and nice landscaping. Hope all golfers help to keep it that way by repairing their divots on the fairways and ball impressions when landing on greens. Pick up debris that may have been accidentally dropped by the cart ahead of you.Everyone knows how expensive it is to maintain this great look and by respecting the course, the price to play may be kept to a reasonable rate.
Always Enjoyable
If you want to spend a nice afternoon on a somewhat challenging golf course away from the noise of the city and surrounded by natures beauty try Cleghorn
Not perfect but close
Over all an excellent day of golf. Played full the tips and should have moved up one box. Some of the rough was very thick and deep but the fairways were generous enough to avoid it most of the time. Definitely want to play here again even though I am 1 1/2 hours away.
Value
Greens were the best that I have been on this year and the tee times were spaced ideally. We finished our round in just over 3 hours
Cleghorn
Course was in decent shape. Greens were fast and putted true. Fairways and tee boxes were green. Staff was friendly.
The issues of why I gave it a 3 star. The bunkers were like hitting off concrete. Half of them didn't have enough sand in them to pick the ball clean. The fairways were green but it almost seemed like they mowed them way too short. I thought I was hitting off putt putt carpet with a slab of concrete underneath it. If you weren't driving the club into the ground then you weren't getting the ball in the air.
I'd play there again but I'd wanna make sure there was a good amount of grass in the fairways.
They have "upped their game"!
This course is not what it used to be - greatly improved! They have put money into it and it shows from the get-go. Cart service to your car on arrival, friendly check in service, clean, efficient carts and a course in excellent shape. Greens are rolling very true, and will continue to get better through the fall.
A nice gentle Mountain setting, with nice views.
The value can't be beat. Will replay super soon.
Love this place
A great place to play, but if you are alone or a twosome, it might be slow going. I only played 12 holes because of the backup on the back nine. But hey there's always next time!!
Hidden Gem
We found this course while doing research for our guys golf trip to the PGA Championship in Charlotte. This is a hidden, must play gem located between Charlotte and Asheville. We got 3 holes in before being caught out in the rain for a 3 hour delay. The clubhouse is very accommodating as was the staff. We had food, golf on TV and euchre to play while waiting out the rain. The staff is very experienced and has a fantastic looking course. Despite 3 hours of rain, we were able to go out and play the rest of our round without even getting our shoes muddy. The course drained very well. Highly recommend this course and hope to return soon.
Wet but still fun
It was rainy when we arrived but we already had expected that. The course I was in great shape with a wonderful layout. The most surprising thing is that even though it was raining the greens where still very fast. I can't wait to play it when it's dry. The staff was good and very polite. The overall experience was great and I am ready to go back.
Mountain golf delight
Great layout, with some spectacular vistas. The course was in fantastic condition and the staff was super friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
Always enjoy this course.
1st time playing this course this year. Played mid afternoon and the while no visual signs of the course being dried out the fairways were less tban lust and leaving pretty tight lies around the greens. The greens were pretty slow and wouldn't even leave a ball mark from a short wedge out. All the bunckers appeared to be racked but the only one i was in all day was like concrete. Love the layout and will continue to play.
Great Course
I play this course at least once a month and it has always been enjoyable. The greens were just maintained before playing and was not grown in yet. Still putted very well though. This is the only reason I could not give the course condition an excellent. Greens are well kept and condition has never been an issue except for when routine maintenance is underway. Depending on your handicap you may find this course somewhat challenging. But this I can assure you: You will definitely enjoy the course.
You have to play this course
This course is a jewel hidden in western North Carolina. The layout of the holes is excellent! There are many holes with elevated tees or greens, or both, giving great views and making it a challenge to achieve par. I had to come back and play it again two days later. I can't begin to tell you how much fun it was to try to solve the various doglegs, elevation changes, and strategic placement of the bunkers. A great time!
incredible layout and course with terrible greens
We were very excited to play Cleghorn. We had high hopes after realizing that the Equestrian center were the owners. THE GREENS WERE TERRIBLE!!! How is this possible with all of the money 5 minutes away. I have other single digit golfers that I would love to take here but do not dare to. If the greens were even good I would suggest this course. This was like putting on a plinko board on the price is right. It was a guessing game. How can you even expect out of towners to take the course seriously when the greens are like this. I should have known when I went to the practice green. It was identical to all 18. Terrible! I was so disappointed because everything else was very nice.
Cleghorn Coming Along!
I have played this course every chance I get when I visit the area. Over the past 2 years the course has been in "ok" shape.
This time, the course was in excellent shape. Green, lush, fairways and greens. Tricky breaks when putting but that was to be expected.
If you get a chance to play it while you are in the area. Go for it!
Great Course, Unfortunate Timing
I drove an hour and a half to meet my dad for a pre-Father's Day round. I heard great reviews from friends and on Golf Advisor so I booked a tee time online for their normal rate. The staff was very friendly and accommodating which was great. Unfortunately, the greens had just been aerated and were the worst I've ever played. They weren't normal aerated conditions because they added an ungodly amount of sand to the greens. On most holes, there were at least 1/4 inch of sand around the hole. Making it impossible to score.
The rest of the course was top notch. The fairways and tee boxes were impeccable; the layout was challenging and interesting. I would definitely play this course again but do yourself a favor and WAIT 2 weeks to go play until the greens are playable.
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package
They just punched them not even a month ago you do realize this correct? Every course does this.
