Great Course
If your looking for an easy course. This is not for you. However, the course is very playable. The front nine is easier than the back. A moderately tight course with some great scenery.
Tremendous Layout
This course is a beast from the tips. You must hit very precise tee shots and even then they may or may not stay in the fairway. Played when the bermuda was dormant so course was very firm.
Now having said that, this is a beautiful course. Every hole is beautiful and has a very appealing bend to it. there are very few straight holes. The par threes are long but fair and there are lots of bunkers. Fairways are all sloped but you can cut some corners and get the ball into a good flat lie.
Overall, take your B game or better and be prepared to enjoy a great layout with very few even lies and very challenging greens.
Masters Trip
We stopped to play this on our way to the Masters. It is a nice mountain course with a lot of elevation changes. Site lines were good and the course was in good condition. It would have been helpful to know course as some holes required lay ups and we were uncertain as to where and how far.
Great Day!
I first played this course several years ago, it was nice but needed some work. This course has stepped up its game substantially! The greens are in good shape, fairways the same. This track challenges you and your game, I highly recommend if you are thinking of playing here do it, you will not be sorry. This
awesome mountain course
what a neat course! this was a great course with one exception. The greens are slow and bumpy. I was wishing on every hole that the greens were better. The last few holes got a little better but still slow. If they had the greens right- not bumpy, slow, and almost furry, this place would be perfect!! Hopefully next time I play the greens will be firmer and faster. I do look forward to going back.
Great Track
Despite slower than usual greens because of winter conditions, we thoroughly enjoyed playing here. It challenges every level of player off the tee with accuracy at a premium over distance on most holes, but we could actually use the driver. My only complaint is that some of the "regulars" play like molassas! It took almost 5 hours to finish, but it was a Sunday and lots of play on the course. It is a very nice layout and a real bargain. We'll be back.
Difficult but fun
Course has some very intimidating tee boxes with shots over water. Has a pretty good layout and some long par 3 holes. Had a great time and with the weather that occurred the week prior, the course was in Bette than expected shape.
Nice course
Great place to play in WNC. The greens were tricky and were very slow from all the rain we have had recently. The course was well marked and had no blind shots. Very difficult though. Like others have said you definitely have to work hard to score.
Nice course but only 9 holes were open
Decent course with some views but only the front 9 were open so we had to play those twice. The course was made more challenging because it was autumn and the leaves hadn't been taken care of and it was very wet and soggy. Tarps were left to the sides of the greens to prevent early frost damage. We were lucky they didn't interfere with our game but the duo in front of us had issues on almost every hole. Slowed play down a bit. We lost a lot of good balls because the leaves were so thick on the ground. There are 3 holes that are almost identical and we got a good laugh at that. Tee's are high above the greens, one had water on right, another on left and then no water. Rather odd to see so much familiarity on just 9 holes. Someone lacked for imagination in the design. The snack bar offers the usual variety and we had 2 cheeseburgers that were included with our rounds and these were way above par. About the best burgers we've had in along time! For the money, $13 each for each with cart and lunch, it was a GREAT bargain. Course is challenging with or without leaves but could have been in better condition overall. Its probably better in summer and spring.
Just plain nice
It is the "meanest" course I've played... but the most fun. We threw out the score card at the third hole and started to "work". It is a fantastic golf experience.
great views, fantastic staff, super value.
On my top 15 list with Bryan Park and Oak Hollow if Greensboro NC.
Great value!
This course is a great value!
They have the correct mindset to be a successful course which
is shown from grounds crew to staff pro. Everyone appreciates the guests.
The course condition is well above average and improving daily.
I highly recommend you to try this one.
Gem in rutherfordton
Staff was great.. Food was a good value. The golf course lay out will challenge you. Greens were not fast , but rolled well..Pick one more club!! And go at the pin. You will be glad you did.
A Gem of a course
Great value for the money. Excellent staff and friendly atmosphere. A gem of a course with beautiful views and course layout, providing the seasoned player and the novice with a great round for the monies. Beer on tap from local breweries and traditional flavor too.
Challenging
The challenge of a mountainous course is here. Great holes, demanding tees shots and challenging greens. Enjoyed every minute of the round. Beautiful scenery and very friendly staff.
Don't miss "Wicked Wednesdays"!
This was the first time I played Cleghorn Plantation. Unbeknownst to me, every Wednesday after Labor Day is "Wicked Wednesday", which includes unlimited range balls (didn't take advantage as I didn't have time prior to my round), 18 holes with cart for $25. You can also get as many hot dogs as you can eat for $1 each and beers for $1 each. What better day to play!!
The course itself is pretty straight forward; the starter was helpful in pointing out that most greens are elevated, requiring 1/2 to 2 clubs extra (according to him). The course was in good shape - the greens were fairly slow but pretty much rolled true. Some of the fairways were "splotchy" but most were in good condition. The layout is hilly but not treacherous. Good variety of holes and greens are mostly large and receptive, with interesting undulations and tiers on some.
If you haven't been to Cleghorn Plantation, I'd recommend checking it out. According to the 2 guys I was paired up with, the new owners have put a lot of time and money into the place, and it shows.
Great course for the $$
We played as a foursome, but luckily we showed up abit earlier than the scheduled tee time. If we would have showed up on time or even 5 min early we would have been stuck behind a group of 8 people with a group of 6 behind them. Seems like they could schedule times a little better. But overall the course played great and looked great for this time of year.
Best value for the money!
I play this course often even though its an hour from home.
I feel its an excellent value.
Fun and challenging
Enjoyed my first round at Cleghorn and looking forward to the next round.
