Return Round
It has been a while since we played Cleghorn and have always loved the layout. Challenging course that requires playing shots on many holes or you could put yourself in unplayable positions. Greens have improved greatly since our last visit. Speed of greens was quick and adding in the very few flat putts, you better be striking the ball well to score good. Finally the course is back to where it used to be years ago if not even better!
Great course and views
A beautiful course that if you hit the fairways, you're in good shape. If you can't control your drives, you're in for a long day. I can't afford to play there but with golf now, I can. The staff is friendly. Fast greens and hilly fairways. Some water hazards and some well placed sand bunkers. Will definitely play there again.
Cleghorn
Great course. We had a perfect tee-time. Course layout is beautiful, and the colors are great this time of year.
Course can be a challenge in some areas, course management is a must. Good for all levels of golfers.
Fantastic course
Great layout. Great staff. A must play.
Interesting mix of mostly good, but some bad
This course is in a beautiful location, with mountains in the distance, rolling hills, steams, etc.
There are a lot of fun holes, with major elevation changes, but I think there are 5-6 holes that are either silly, or pretty boring. Back nine is the better nine, IMO.
Tee boxes and fairways were a bit rough, but the greens overall very nice.
Have to hit good drives here. On most holes, the fairways are easy to hit. If you are having a bad driving day, you'll lose golfballs.
Good driving range, but the putting green was nowhere near the speed of the course. The Driving range backs into a pair of apartment/condo buildings that badly need a paint job. Looks a little crummy in there.
I'd definitely play here again. Overall a fun place.
Fabulos day
One of the nicest fall seasons, with great weather conditions and superb golf course. It is a golf course in the hilly area so you need to hit straight but there is some room to recover. Good conditions on the fairways and greens which are fast.
Cleghorn gives any golfer all the golf they can handle !
We had a wonderful time at Cleghorn plantation And the course staff were very accommodating as the fellow I played with was handicapped and the Ranger told us to drive up as close to each green to save his energy .
Short drive for great course
This was the second time playing this course. and I was not disappointed. The course was in great condition! Fairways were lush and the greens rolled quick and true. Take heed when putting from above the hole as the greens are sneaky fast. The scenery was awesome and would be worth the trip just for the views. The course was having a small tournament that had just teed off in front of us and I was pleased when the pro offered to let us start on the back 9. Pace of play was great! Slowed up a bit when we made the turn, but not too bad. We joined up with twosome behind us which helped us with the pace. The only negative I have is the lack of hole descriptions. The tee markers don't show the hole layout, and the scorecard only show the complete course layout for guidance. No yardage books are available, which would be very helpful for first time players at this course. It is easy to get into trouble here if you don't know where, or what club, to hit. STAY IN THE FAIRWAY. the Bermuda ruff is brutal.
WILL PLAY AGAIN!

Good day at Cleghorn!
Played with an uncle and cousin; we had a very good day together and enjoyed the course a lot. Course was in very good condition considering the lack of rain recently. Will return again very soon.
Very Beautiful and Very Challenging
I've played here for years and it's under new ownership and they've done well. New clubcar carts and they've changed the layout since I was a kid playing here, it's turned around, hole 10 is now hole one and vis versa. But they've done a great job on fixing the place up, new bunkers and nice greens. This place is tough, you have to stay in the fairway or you'll be lost in the woods. I have lost a half dozen balls here, but I'm a 22 handicap. It's a beautiful place to play and in great shape.
Cleghorn
The course is very tough to get pars on,great fairways and great greens , very challenging play here very often
One of my favorites
New to the area and definitely in my top 3 I've played. Course conditions aren't perfect because of the weather but the layout is smart and fun. Challenge from men's tees and tips. Keep it near the fairways because bad shots turn into really bad results
Fun and challenging
A really neat layout that provides a good challenge. The course was a little dry but overall the conditions were pretty good. There was one green where half of the green was under repair and a fairway that had a small area under repair but that's understandable given the weather this summer. Drove 2 hours to play here and shot my best score ever so I will be back. They have an awesome selection of beers and a beautiful clubhouse and grill.
Good, could be great
First trip to Cleghorn in quiet sometime today. It has been up and down condition wise recently, but I wanted to give it a try. It is still the same great layout. Alot of elevation changes, up and down, true mountain golf. Several interesting doglegs. Fairways are wide, but miss them and you are hurting. Greens are large and undulating, so again, miss the section and its a hard two putt. Very fun to play. The conditions of the course are just so so, but with a little more attention could reach its former glory. The rough is very thick in some spots, so thick I lost a ball in the rough that I saw land. But also burnt out in some spots that dont get water. Same with the fairways. Overall, they were good, although I'd like to see them cut a little tighter. But there were some burnt out spots in them too. Greens needed to be rolled in my opinion. I imagine they are not cutting them as low because of the heat we have had in the area. I found them to be inconsistent speed wise as well. Some fast, some slow. A couple bad spots but not too bad. Overall, I love the layout, and they charged me $20 to play 18 on a Friday afternoon when I didnt see another golfer in front of behind me the whole round.
Beautiful setting
Cleghorn Plantation is our favorite course to play when we are at our home in NC. It is beautifully situated in the foothills of the Western NC mountains. The course is well maintained, fair, and fun!
Very Challenging
Cleghorn always offers a challenge. Course is in very good shape for the HOT summer we're having. They seem to be letting the greens grow a bit to keep from burning out.
A North Carolina gem
Easy to get to, this a former plantation, complete with family cemetery , house and grain mill. Fairways are in great shape, greens are manageable. Not a lot of flat spots on the tee boxes. Make sure you ask how to play #17 and 18 if it's your first time.
Very hilly makes for some interesting landing areas. With the golfnow rate and playing mid-day, this is a great value.
Awesome course from traveling golfer.
I've played from NC down to the panhandle of Florida and back again, including Callaway Gardens, etc. This course is awesome. Long.. big fairways.. great shape.. low usage, fast pace. No holes are next to other holes except 1 and 18. Great topography. Recently purchased to fit the Tryon Equestrian area portfolio, so we expect to see constant improvement too. My new favorite course (other than my home courses of Lake Lure/Rumbling Bald and Apple Valley.
