Some areas are dormant but no grass is growing in others Photo submitted by scsmith63 on 05/01/2015
tough layout
Bring all your clubs. you will use each of them. As info, I would probably have rated the course much higher if our 4some had played on a different day. We played during late March (when the bermuda fairways were still dormant). In addition, the area must have had a tremendous rain the night before we played resulting in muddy fairway lies and unplayable traps. As a result, we had to remain on the cart paths(Cleghorn is a really tough course to walk). I recommend playing Cleghorn, especially for those golfers looking for a challenge. However, I suggest you wait until the bermuda has time to mature. I believe their fairways are common bermuda and therefore it may take a little longer than normal to mature.
Fun hill layout
Hills on every hole, have to play the fairway slopes to keep the ball in play. Greens were large, fairly fast and also had undulations and slopes. Its off season so only the greens were in good shape. Will play again
Be smart!
You really need to think each shot through before swinging. On some holes I landed in the middle of the fairway and ended up in the woods, others I missed the fairway only to end up rolling right back to the middle. You'll need distance and trajectory control off the tee. Length is only a good thing if you can control it. Overall conditions were great for Feb. Every bunker I saw was neatly raked. Looking forward to the next trip!
Mountain course
This is a challenging but very playable course for players of all abilities. It being a mountain course there are no flat places... and that includes the greens. A good time was had by all in our foursome and we would be open for another go at it.
great course but...
The course itself is a great track. I love the course but on this particular day we left with a really bad taste in our mouth almost to the point of not being sure if we will return or not. mostly centered around the pace of play and specifically one group which is why I'm reluctant to be really negative about the course but it would be nice to see a Ranger at least drive around the course once or twice throughout the day just to check on things but you don't see this at many courses at all anymore I realize that. we caught three women on about hole number seven with nobody in front of them anywhere in sight and they never once offered to let us go through and I'm talking about it being so slow we hit our approach shots into the greens after they had pulled away, we finished that hole, pulled to the next tee box, teed our balls up and they had still not teed off on that hole. I do regret that we did not call into the clubhouse but I've never liked doing that. and they clearly knew and saw we were behind them waiting as they turned around and looked at us a couple of times from their Teebox. and I can't tell you how they played as far as whether they were any good or not if they were slow because of bad play but I can tell you they were still taking time to fish balls out of the creeks and ponds and things like that knowing we were waiting behind them with nobody in front of them. as I said I love the course but we drove almost 2 hours to play this course and it was just a really frustrating day. I got the impression they were members or regulars there but I can't say that for sure but again simply having someone just ride the course a couple of times would have been nice where we could've said hey can you speed them up or have them let us go through aside from that it's a great course but you do have to hit it well off the tee if you drive it well on the course you can play well and score well but if you're a little erratic with the driver you can post some high numbers
One of my favorites
I go out of my way to play this course. The layout is great. Nice rolling hills with beautiful views all around. Somewhat challenging but worth the occasional double bogey.
Will return
Incredibly friendly staff and nice greens in tremendous shape for the first week of February
Nice Course
This is a great course for golfers. My crew really enjoyed the challenges. We will play this course every chance we get.
Father/Son outting
My son and I love to play this course but it has been a while since we were last here. Course has improved greatly since last visit. Greens were true and fast with plenty of break. Can't wait until spring when it is all green again. Highly recommend this course
Return Round
It has been a while since we played Cleghorn and have always loved the layout. Challenging course that requires playing shots on many holes or you could put yourself in unplayable positions. Greens have improved greatly since our last visit. Speed of greens was quick and adding in the very few flat putts, you better be striking the ball well to score good. Finally the course is back to where it used to be years ago if not even better!
Great course and views
A beautiful course that if you hit the fairways, you're in good shape. If you can't control your drives, you're in for a long day. I can't afford to play there but with golf now, I can. The staff is friendly. Fast greens and hilly fairways. Some water hazards and some well placed sand bunkers. Will definitely play there again.
Cleghorn
Great course. We had a perfect tee-time. Course layout is beautiful, and the colors are great this time of year.
Course can be a challenge in some areas, course management is a must. Good for all levels of golfers.
Fantastic course
Great layout. Great staff. A must play.
Interesting mix of mostly good, but some bad
This course is in a beautiful location, with mountains in the distance, rolling hills, steams, etc.
There are a lot of fun holes, with major elevation changes, but I think there are 5-6 holes that are either silly, or pretty boring. Back nine is the better nine, IMO.
Tee boxes and fairways were a bit rough, but the greens overall very nice.
Have to hit good drives here. On most holes, the fairways are easy to hit. If you are having a bad driving day, you'll lose golfballs.
Good driving range, but the putting green was nowhere near the speed of the course. The Driving range backs into a pair of apartment/condo buildings that badly need a paint job. Looks a little crummy in there.
I'd definitely play here again. Overall a fun place.
Fabulos day
One of the nicest fall seasons, with great weather conditions and superb golf course. It is a golf course in the hilly area so you need to hit straight but there is some room to recover. Good conditions on the fairways and greens which are fast.
Cleghorn gives any golfer all the golf they can handle !
We had a wonderful time at Cleghorn plantation And the course staff were very accommodating as the fellow I played with was handicapped and the Ranger told us to drive up as close to each green to save his energy .
Short drive for great course
This was the second time playing this course. and I was not disappointed. The course was in great condition! Fairways were lush and the greens rolled quick and true. Take heed when putting from above the hole as the greens are sneaky fast. The scenery was awesome and would be worth the trip just for the views. The course was having a small tournament that had just teed off in front of us and I was pleased when the pro offered to let us start on the back 9. Pace of play was great! Slowed up a bit when we made the turn, but not too bad. We joined up with twosome behind us which helped us with the pace. The only negative I have is the lack of hole descriptions. The tee markers don't show the hole layout, and the scorecard only show the complete course layout for guidance. No yardage books are available, which would be very helpful for first time players at this course. It is easy to get into trouble here if you don't know where, or what club, to hit. STAY IN THE FAIRWAY. the Bermuda ruff is brutal.
WILL PLAY AGAIN!

Good day at Cleghorn!
Played with an uncle and cousin; we had a very good day together and enjoyed the course a lot. Course was in very good condition considering the lack of rain recently. Will return again very soon.
