Great value for the price
This was a solid course if you know you get what you pay for. The carts paths are in rough shape/nonexistent on some holes, so a bumpy ride at times. Several blind tee shots and holes that pose a little challenge to the average golfer. Lots of hills as well. Course staff was incredibly helpful and nice (10/10 on that front). They let me off before a group of 7 so was able to play in under 3 hours.
Cart Paths
Loved the course as well as the staff. Amazing place. The k my thing I would say is to spend some time on the cart paths.
Cool Course With Many Challenges
If you are looking for pristine fairways, groomed bunkers and carts with seats that don't have an area with wet exposed cushion in spots, this isn't your place. But it does have a unique charm that makes it worthy in its own unique way. I would recommend giving this course a shot, but knowing what to expect is important. Unfortunately, the guys I brought with me did not get to play the back 9 because it was closed, so we played the front twice. Coming off 9, we found groups in front of us, so we had to wait. Unfortunate. It was very cold, and the corner of the seat was torn and wet, so the back of my pants was wet the entire round, which was uncomfortable, to say the least. Maybe some good old duct tape on the exposed parts? I understand they do have carts on order so that will certainly help. The staff is exceptional and will make you feel welcome.
Greatest vaue around!!!
The course could use some upgrades sure, BUT the price is unreal good!!! The course plays well, they keep it maintained well, and it has a lot of natural beauty.
Quirky Fun But be Aware
I like to be honest in my reviews. This course is very rough in many places. The greens are good but it can be a challenge to get there. The fairways can be as hard as a rock and grass on the fairways can be hard to find at times. Bunkers are difficult to say the least. This is not a course to work on your score but still can be a lot of fun if you aren't too serious. Saw several 5somes, a sixsome and maybe even an 8 some so that was unique. No marshall, no starter so very little structure. The atmosphere was extremely friendly and laid back and the staff was very inviting and helpful. We were told new carts were on the way and they are needed but again, in spite of that too, my group did enjoy themselves very much. Interestingly enough, in spite of the odd groupings, the pace of play was not bad.
Average course
very bad course condition all car path need to be redone incredibly rough fairways more than average green are ok as well as staff
Fun
Not a top notch fairway condition type of course, but the greens are nice. Back nine is quite challenging
(I played it a second time while I was there).
Laid back relaxed atmosphere with great , friendly staff!
best value and wonderful people
I can’t say enough good things about the value for $$, wonderfully humble and generous owners and overall lack of pretension and friendliness of the patrons. This place is a GEM!
Value play for subpar course
First time playing here. Based on prior reviews, the low expectations were met. Biggest beef is the lack of adequate cart paths. There are none along the fairways, which is ok since I don't think many people play here. But the paths near the tees and greens were mostly broken asphalt and dirt. There are also no cart direction signs. The greens are mostly good, but slow and spongey to walk on, like a living room carpet. The rolling hills fairways are fast with the grass mostly weeds but is cut short. The #3 fairway slopes way right and there is no way to hold it. There are no rakes or ball washers on the entire course. More than one bunker had a large selection of rocks. Some holes are really tough from the blues. #7 par 3 is a funky 2tier green. I got a Hot Deal on GolfNow, but won't be back often, if at all. It's not worth the drive from Charlotte.
Great value
The course was in great shape and the staff were very helpful
Classic sandhills course
Had a great round out here! The staff is so kind and helpful, they were busy but managed the pace of play well. The setting is lovely, more hilly than I expected and very fun. Greens were nice, well kept, and great approaches with some fun opportunities to chip up onto the green. Drains well, mud was nearly non-existent.
Only downside is the cart path situation, it was confusing/pretty rough and there isn’t always a path but we figured it out. Walking would be fine here.
Great value for the round, we’ll definitely be back!
Honest review
First time playing at Twin Valley and here is my honest review.
-appears that the course had been abandoned or simply left unmanaged for a long time until someone took it over
-there’s absolutely no cart path just some chunks of asphalt of what used to be there and dirt paths from traffic. It can make things confusing when traveling from hole to hole. Some areas can be quite dangerous if you are not an experienced driver on rough terrain
-fairways and roughs might as well just be like your everyday home lawn with bare spots, over growth and weeds for the rough
-putting greens are definitely making a comeback with treatment/care but they do play fast and can have some rough spots
-Make sure you hit your ball past the sink hole on #13… or it is long gone!
-staff is very inviting and friendly overall. They will answer questions about the course and pace of play, etc. no issues there at all with staff.
Overall I was disappointed playing the course and it wasn’t very enjoyable for my wife and I who golf frequently. I will say it like this.. play at your own risk and I imagine this course will start to really change for the better over time with the ownership now. The price is fair just be aware!
Great price
A challenging short course that is still playable for the average golfer that is affordable to all especially when booked through golfnow.
Twin Valley
Course is on a beautiful property with great scenery and the design is very good. Some holes on the back 9 are too challenging for most golfers. However, the tee boxes were average at best and same for the fairways. The rough was so high and thick that it was difficult to locate your ball. The greens were much too slow and not always mowed correctly. Also the cart paths were non existent in places. Green fees were a bargain, but overall, it was not an enjoyable round. Some of this could be due to too much recent rain.
