About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

Irrigation system is fixed
I understand the irrigation system was down for 2 weeks during the last hot / dry spell. Some areas were burned out and the greens were slower than normal as a result. Things should be back to normal by mid July.

Slow Play and Course is not as good ad before
There were brown spots on the greens but they rolled ok but not as fast as usual. Perhaps not cut recently. Overall, the course is not as pristine as it was earlier in the year. Perhaps due to lack of rain.
However, they do need rangers. There was 4-some walking that are beginners!! Twosome before use was hitting multiple balls and generally taking their time over everything even when the course is open in front of them for five minutes.
Called the pro shop. They did not send out anyone.

Amazing course, definitely not for new golfers but it was so fun to play. Fairways are well cared for, greens mostly rolled nice, and the course gives a good challenge!

We chose this course to celebrate Fathers day with some of our family. We had never golfed here before so we had questions and the starter was very rude to us. He said if we were unprepared and didn’t know what we were doing that we shouldn’t have come there we belong at a rinky dink course.

This course is one of the best public courses. Greens are challenging, but I always 3 putt anyways so it’s probably just me.

Greens in good shape but too slanted
Very nice course layout, in good condition. Only problem were the greens. Although in good condition, they were too slanted. A put uphill, if missed, may roll all the way back to where it started...even further.

Surprising Gem
Don’t let the odd checkin set up, or ProShop/Snack Bar put you off, it’s a pretty neat course.
2 very different 9’s, especially the greens.
Bunkers seem to be in transition and under a degree of renovation.
Good fairways
Greens role tru. Front 9 greens run slower, but largely due to Severe Back to Front sloping.
Pace was excellent, but beware of 9-Holers, slowing the front and then departing , our back nine was 90 minutes, which made up for the 2hr 17 min front nine.

The course was in fine shape all things considered. Spring has been a bit off, but fairways and greens were near perfect. That's all that really counts, eh?

Course is in awesome condition and playing tough as usual with some unfriendly pin positions....lol
Great course to challenge your skill set at all aspects of the game.
Pace was a little slow, had a few bad players that should have allowed better players to play through

Don't Miss Hot Deals
I'm usually a metroparks golfer. Rarely do I stray from the city courses, but weather and timing caused me to stretch my boundaries a bit. I'm glad it did. Beautiful course, solid layout good pace and course conditions were great. Greens are more challenging than meets the eye so read your putts well or get ready for 2-3 putts. If your in the area or want a little drive to play don't hesitate.

Fun at Chardon
Always enjoy Chardon. They were mowing and course is looking good. Few wet spots but drying up nice. The greens are always tough to play but in good shape. I always look for Golf now discounts to play here. They make a great Bloody Mary too.
