About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

Great shape tough greens
This course has the toughest greens in town
course was in great shape and most unusually, we hit a pocket with no groups in front or behind us - very rare occurrence as this course can get heavy senior play that can be slow.

Course is in great condition!
Enjoyed a great round with perfect weather. The course is in great shape. Pace of play was great until the last 4-5 holes where we waited at least 5-10 minutes on each of those holes. Greens can be tricky if you are not below the hole.

Challenging
Course is definitely challenging especially for someone that shoots in the low 90's. Only complaint is the pace of play, we had a threesome let a slow foursome play through and both teams held up the front nine from the 6th hole to the 9th hole. Back nine was somewhat faster even though we caught up to the same foursome three holes ahead.

Too Slow. Waited on Every hole
They need to fix the tee times here. I've played twice in the past month and both times were 5 hour rounds. Log jam on the 4th hole which is a par 3. Three groups on the tee on #3 and it never improved. They let off too many twosomes on the weekends too and that's a problem. Make these twosomes pair up into foursomes and it would dramatically improve the ridiculously slow pace of play. Good course and in great shape, but I'm soured on the pace of play. They do not space out tee times well enough and I won't be back for a while until they figure it out.
