About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

Starter needs to do his job
First time I have ever walked off a course after 9 because of the pace of play. Booked in as a single, got paired up with two others. No biggie. We got stuck behind some “league” and obviously they put the slowest group in the “league” in the last group. Waited on every shot. The group in front of us had the course open in front of them after hole 5. 3 some. One single in the cart and two paired up. No clue how to play ready golf. They would all follow along with each other and watch the other guy hit. Then drive to the next ball, watch that guy hit. Shame on the starter for not realizing no one came down 9’s fairway for 30 minutes. Plus, the group WAITED for the last group to get to the turn before going to 10’s tee box, so we couldn’t jump the slow group. Starter totally failed at his duties.

Best greens in ohio
Couldn’t complain. Absolutely perfect greens all immaculate!! Drove an hour to get there and totally worth it. All the greens are sloped to the front so knowing your yardage is paramount. Quickly moved up to one of my favorites for sure!

Wonderful round on a hot day
Play the 18 ad midday yesterday. Was hooked up with a twosome and another single. The course is in great shape, even though it has rained a couple of days before. The pace of play only got four stars because there was a foursome in front of us which was encumbered by a twosome which didn’t seem to understand that they needed to move things along. Not really the fault of the starter or the course people, but maybe the drink cart staffer could have said something to move the twosome ahead. As before, the greens are extremely fast and tilted in all directions, so try to stay beneath the hole. Otherwise, your second putt will be longer than your first.

Solid old school course
Played the back tees that are probably too difficult for me but the gentleman I played with was a better player so the black tees it was. Course was in great shape and quite the challenge. Greens we’re good shape, the rough was healthy, some of the traps had rocks in them, hole 17 for sure. Many legit over 445 yard par 4’s. Beautiful day

Great Course in Great Condition
Course is in great shape right now! Pace of play was average but for a busy Saturday that's expected. Recommend going here especially if you can snag a hot deal!
