Chardon Lakes Golf Course
About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

Challenging
Course is definitely challenging especially for someone that shoots in the low 90's. Only complaint is the pace of play, we had a threesome let a slow foursome play through and both teams held up the front nine from the 6th hole to the 9th hole. Back nine was somewhat faster even though we caught up to the same foursome three holes ahead.

Too Slow. Waited on Every hole
They need to fix the tee times here. I've played twice in the past month and both times were 5 hour rounds. Log jam on the 4th hole which is a par 3. Three groups on the tee on #3 and it never improved. They let off too many twosomes on the weekends too and that's a problem. Make these twosomes pair up into foursomes and it would dramatically improve the ridiculously slow pace of play. Good course and in great shape, but I'm soured on the pace of play. They do not space out tee times well enough and I won't be back for a while until they figure it out.

Tough
Very thick rough in places, greens fast, esp. from above the hole. P.S. I"ll never understand how a single gets put out between a threesome and a foursome?

Good course and the weather was perfect. I think they could space the times a bit better. We waited a lot and the group of 3 behind us were constantly waiting for us. Took a little long. about 5 hours for 18 but it was a beautiful day and I'll definitely be back.

Nice course
While overall we like this course, there was a lot of standing water...drainage must not be great. Also many holes had clumps of grass/ dry grass not from divots.

Bunkers need attention
Chardon Lakes is an interesting course to play with some very challenging greens. #16-17-18 make for a very tough finish.
The course was in very good shape with the exception of the bunkers. Some had very little sand, some has a big pile of sand waiting to be spread out, some had enough sand play a shot, and some were simply marked "ground under repair" with grass growing in them. I don't remember them being like this last year. If they want to charge a higher price, they need to fix this problem.
Be aware that the driving range is up the road which means that you have to get tokens from the pro shop then drive back and forth to hit balls.

Value
Nice enough course, but substantially over-priced for overall conditions and amenities.
Wr played in the early afternoon on Friday and only saw two other groups on the course.
Management needs to reevaluate rates.
This is not a $45+ course.
You could easily sellout tee times at $30.00
And, I didn't see any price break for Seniors or Juniors.
Not a value.

Fairways and Greens are Great
I play this course 4 times a year. I saw some reviewers complain about the greens. Yes they are hard but fair. In fact the greens are what I like most about this course.
The layout is ho hum but course conditions are great right now. The only issue are the bunkers (some are being repaired) but most have very little sand.
With better bunkers I would rate this 5 star. However, wait for a G Now deal unless you are a senior.

Wet ?
I generally have liked playing Chardon lakes in the past. I live very close so after it sprinkled 1/4” rain in the morning then turned sunny my wife and I went to play a round. As soon as we got out they changed to cart path only ! The missus has two bum knees and wasn’t able to play the whole round due to the excessive walking involved and I could have hiked a metro park for free if I wanted to get all my steps in. The ball washers were empty and clumps of grass everywhere
Pace of play , nobody was behind us for 12 holes because they didn’t want to walk it !!!
Cmon guys it’s CHARDON Ohio we only get so many decent days a year

First Time Charm
This was the first time I played this course and was very happy that I did. The employees that I spoke with were nice and helpful. The course was in excellent condition. Nice lowcut fairways and quick greens. I will be playing this course again and will let my friends know too.
