About
Chardon Lakes Golf Course opened as a nine-hole course in 1931. The original layout was designed by Bert Way, the same creative mind behind two of the popular golf courses in Ohio: Firestone North in Akron and Mayfield C.C. in Lyndhurst. The second nine was added in 1963. The golf course has a traditional layout with challenges that have withstood the test of the time. It has hosted several qualifiers for the Cleveland Open, most recently in 2001. Many famous players have tested their luck on the golf course, including Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, whose score of 67 from the back tees is still the course record. Mature trees line Chardon Lakes Golf Course's fairways and there are more than 40 bunkers strategically placed along the large, undulating greens. There are also water hazards on 11 holes.

Why pay a ranger?
Course was beautiful as always, but the pace of play was awful. I understand it's Sunday morning, but when you literally have 14 people on one hole that is just poor management. There was a ranger that passed a few times. Maybe he doesn't realize a 6-some is not a normal group or that he should ask a poorly, slowly playing group to pick up the pace. 5 hour and 30 minute round is not enjoyable. I'll never some back here on a Sunday again.
good course
Fast greens and very nice scenery course was backed up a lot of waiting around but still finished 9 holes in. 2hr 10 min for 2 ppl. It was a Sunday btw

A beautiful and well conditioned golf course!
Unfortunately, it is extremely narrow with tree lines galore. But, the thing that separates this course from all others are the ultra-sloping greens on every hole. This course had the most difficult greens I have ever played.
Also, do not be intimidated by the name. Chardon Lakes had one small lake on hole #17. It should have been named Chardon Woods.

Old man still beats son
Course was in great condition for as dry as it has been. Greens are fast. Stay below the hole with your approach shots. Tough to two putt above the hole. Have played course 5 or 6 times. Fun and challenging.

Solid Golf Course
Nice course. Fast greens. Better than average snacks/ food. Only concern is that no one monitors the course for backups or slow play. Took 5 hours to complete 18 holes.

Great Course!
Love playing Chardon Lakes. The greens are fast, fast, FAST. Need to work on that whole putting thing, but wow! Fast. Nothing quite like standing there for 30 seconds waiting for your ball to come to a rest.

Good, not Great
This course was fun to play and well-maintained. I was able to get a discount through GolfNow on the regular pricing which made it worth the money until I had to pay a ridiculous amount for rental clubs ($40 for 18 holes JUST FOR THE CLUBS!!!!) This in itself would have been fine if they hadn't told me a different price ($20, still high if you ask me) prior to booking the round of golf. Since I was traveling up from Florida, I was essentially locked in since I needed the clubs to play the round.
I have no idea what makes them think they should charge as much for rental clubs as they do for a round of golf, but I guess it doesn't matter for most people. Good course if you don't need rentals.

This course does not drain well. There was standing water on the fairways, especially 17 which was terrible. The first rain in almost 1 week required the course to cart path only play which made a long round with bad conditions worse. I won’t be going back until we have a drought

Loved it!
I went out as a single and finished my round in way less than 3 hours! I like that the course has a sign on 1st tee for all groups to keep their pace to no more than 2 hours per 9 holes. The course is in great shape and has a lot of twists and turns. The greens are fast and slope down back to front so you will want to keep your ball below the hole or you're going to have a super fast putt or one with 5+ feet of break. I will definitely be back soon!

Course conditions fair to average. Rude staff and over priced
No indications when I booked that the course had discontinued the cart per player because of covid 19. Apparently they believe that the Covid 19 threat no longer exists. We were rudely told it be $11 for each extra cart.! Luckily we found a cart that had the plexi glass divider. The Starter was also very rude! The greens were very inconsistent considering the pricey green fees. Lots of other courses in the area that are a much better deal and the staff are friendly.
