Blue Heron Pines Golf Club
About
The Blue Heron Pines Golf Club consists of two award-winning courses called the East and the West. Located 15 minutes outside of Atlantic City, these public golf courses provide a challenging game and have been touted by many New Jersey publications as the best 18-hole course on the Jersey Shore.
Each golf course had a different designer so they do have some differences. The West Course is relatively flat with narrow fairways and fast greens. Water hazards also come into play on seven holes. The East Course on the other hand features wide fairways and difficult bunkers. The East Course also follows a links-style layout and is meant to be played fast and firm. For those who want to play the courses but aren't at the top of their game yet, the club offers golf instruction.

Blue Herron
My friend and I had an 11:53 tee time. They sent us off on the back 9 with another two - some and assured us we would have no trouble playing the front after the turn. When we got to hole #1, there were FOUR groups of 3 waiting to tee off!! We asked for a "rain check" and went home. Very disappointed !!
Good course in good condition
Course was great. Staff not as great. No yardage book available. Like the layout but it would be nice to know where hazards are before I play into them. I've never been to a course of this caliber that didnt offer a yardage book. No cart girl available bc there was an event later in the day. Regardless of what the GCs schedule is later that day I dont undrstand why I cant get a sandwhich and a beer on the course.
Extremely slow play
Just two things that really made for a bad first impression.
Pace of play. Extremely slow. The ranger or rangers should have been done a better job. 5 hours and 15 minutes will make one never want to play again. Second, really dislike any club that has a salesman on any tee who is trying to get more money from you. No I am not interested in putting up another 10 dollars for some contest. Such a turn off. This guy was like a car salesman. Who stood on tee box and did not let us tee off until he was done. Will not return.
Prop's to Team RJ
Great conditions for a public course! Kudo's to Ron J's maintenance team for having such smooth greens after a long hot summer with plenty of use. They have had a weed invasion problem but again, credit to the team, they have already killed it off ready for the fall growing season. T-boxes are a little beat up but overall the staff has done a great job each season getting the course in better and better shape. Not an especially hard course but fun to play.
Great deal excellent course
It is challenging, but not unfair. Would that more players fixed ball marks on greens, but it is not the course's fault for that. Decent beers on tap. Friendly staff
enjoyable day at Blue Heron Pines
It had been years since we last played Blue Heron Pines and golfnow blessed us with a 34 dollar rate for this Sunday which was much appreciated. As an overall facility, Blue Heron gets high marks. The practice area has a good range, a practice trap and chipping area and am ample putting green. The locker room facilities are top notch as is the clubhouse. We met Ron Jaworski's son BJ there who is a personable nice young man and played in the group behind us.. The course is no doubt a fun and challenging layout.. The back 9 finishes up on 5 real good holes that will test any level of player. At the end of every summer, most public courses are pretty chewed up and Blue Heron is less chewed up than most.. The greens are a bit bumpy and not as good as in years past but still decent enough.. The cart girl was cute, blonde and very sweet.. Looks like Jaworski knows how to hire them! The service by the staff was very nice and gave us the feel of playing at a nice resort course.. For the dollar it was a real enjoyable day at Blue Heron Pines..
Good Time
The course was in good condition. The greens were a little slow, but in good shape. The pace of play was good. All of the tee times were full and we started on time and didn't have to wait on any of the holes.
Great shore course
Blue Heron Pines Golf Club is a great shore course that has some challenging holes.
Slow Play
Five hour round. Not used to that at this course. Front nine was cart path only due to rain the previous day. Maybe that slowed things down a little but I am used to much faster pace of play at this course. My second complaint was that the beverage cart and the restaurant had no crackers, cookies, candy bars or worse yet Arnold Palmer! They said they ran out a couple of days ago and hadn't gotten any restock. Really???
Great Course!
First time here. Excellent course maintenance of all tee-boxes, fairways, & greens! Plenty of friendly staff for assistance. Challenging course, but still fun as a struggling golfer (shot a 106). Lots of sand everywhere! Play was slow; took almost 5 hours to finish. Would come back on a weekday when less crowded. A bit pricey; should make reservations using discount booking websites. Couldn't stick around for food & drink, but clubhouse bar looked really good. Didn't see Jaws, but thanks for the play on a beautiful Sunday afternoon!
Well worth the drive.
We have made the trip to this golf course several times this summer and find it to be well worth our time. Well kept golf course that is challenging enough to keep you coming back to tackle it. One of the main reasons we enjoy the course is the pace of play. Ranger is always making sure pace of play is on target. Friendly staff and a nice golf range as well. Highly recommend if you are in the Atlantic City area!
Nice Course
Course was in great shape.. greens could have rolled a little bit faster, but other than that it was a nice course .
Bonus was being able to see the fighter jets taking off from the local base in the area.
Good Shape
The course was in good shape even with the number of rounds that get played there during the summer. Greens a little slow and not as much break as you may read
First trip around Blue Heron
Overall I was glad to have finally made the effort to get to Blue Heron Pines. I found the staff to be extremely welcoming and the cart girl made good time getting around the course. The course was in good shape except for inconsistency in the bunkers (from soft sand to rocks to hard pan). The greens were consistently slow but I will attribute this to the fact that the club championship was upcoming and they knew they wanted to have healthy turf going into a few weeks of tight mowing?? The design provides a variety of different types of holes, a minimum of forced carries, and although there are ponds throughout, water usually does not come directly into play. I recommend this course for everyone from the casual to the low handicap golfer. As this course is located close to the resort areas of the Jersey shore you are likely to encounter slow play from the recreational golfers.
Course was in great condition
Pace of play was excellent greens were excellent overall course was excellent
Sand?
fairways and greens were in tremendous shape BUT the bunkers were not usable at all on all holes. new drainage is necessary or I'm not coming back
staff
Desk staff very friendly.
Starter was very nice and gave the appropriate information about the course.
The ranger apparently does nothing.
When we mentioned to him that the group in front of us was not keeping pace, he suggested that we should get some friends. We are not from the area, so I was offended by the comment. We work at a resort course in FL. We KNOW the role of Ranger. I doubt we will play this course again.
I'd play again
Course was in very good shape from tee to green. Greens were a bit slow for my liking. Typical though I guess for resort type courses. Course knowledge is helpful on many holes. Ranger was often present. Bar/restaurant were nice. Can't comment on food. Just had drinks. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend Blue Heron Pines to all.
Greens
Could not get over how slow the greens where.. no reason they should be slow with good weather and plentt of rain?
