Blue Heron Pines Golf Club

About
The Blue Heron Pines Golf Club consists of two award-winning courses called the East and the West. Located 15 minutes outside of Atlantic City, these public golf courses provide a challenging game and have been touted by many New Jersey publications as the best 18-hole course on the Jersey Shore.
Each golf course had a different designer so they do have some differences. The West Course is relatively flat with narrow fairways and fast greens. Water hazards also come into play on seven holes. The East Course on the other hand features wide fairways and difficult bunkers. The East Course also follows a links-style layout and is meant to be played fast and firm. For those who want to play the courses but aren't at the top of their game yet, the club offers golf instruction.

Disappointing Experience
I don’t know where to start this review because we had a generally unsatisfactory experience at BHP recently. What golfers are writing these glowing reviews? The 25 handicappers playing 5 hour rounds in front out your group? I understand that golf is popular, and courses are trying to maximize profits. But courses need to strike a balance between profits and what people are receiving in return. Too many tee boxes were in rough shape; there’s crabgrass in some spots and not enough grass in many areas; our cart was just beat to death; some fairways like 9 are just dead and are in desperate need of a re-do, and many cart paths are teeth-chattering. LOL and they moved our tee time without telling us because they scheduled a wedding next to the first tee. At least Gary, the bag drop veteran, is always great. The pro shop staff are never that friendly and the older guy picking the range (in a tee shirt, not in uniform) was less than friendly. These are top-down issues. I regularly see Jaws at a private club and he’s always pleasant. However, I’m not familiar with his leadership style. It does seem however that leadership at BHP is lacking because so many areas that are needed to deliver a good experience aren’t.
Love This Course
All of the staff are great especially Gary, Bruce, and Morgan! You can tell they are genuinely happy to be working there. Course is always in great condition. When every other course has doubled their prices, you can still manage to find a reasonably priced tee time at Blue Heron. Food is awesome & cheap too!
Favorite course I’ve played so far!
Played on 8/23, took almost 5 hours to finish. The layout was good but the shape the course qas inbad. Tee
Played on 8/23, took almost 5 hours and it is way over priced. The course has a good layout but it is in poor condition. It looks nothing like the pictures you see. Staff was great but I can not believe other people say the course see is in excellent shape. That is not true.
They lose the greens every summer
Greens are awful
Don't play here July and August. They don't have the expertise or equipment to properly maintain the greens in the summer.
Good Experience in Very Hot Weather
I don't usually write reviews but had to share my excellent experience at Blue Heron Pines. The starter, Ron, knew the course really well, we were not sure what tees to play from so he devised a plan for us where we could play the white tees but play from the yellow tees on 4 holes that he thought may have been out of our distance range and he was 100% correct, also told us that there was either water or OB on the right side of 15 of the holes, that alone kept us out of trouble and contributed to one of our best rounds this year. The group behind us was listening to him and I noticed they also asked advice. This was over and above what we are used to, I hope he gets to read this.
Great Experience
The course is a solid track with challenges for all skill level plus fun holes for everyone to try and go low on. Staff is AWESOME and friendly. Great bar and locker room. Very clean. Pace was slow on the front 9, but it was a holiday weekend.
Fair at best that day.
Had some rain night before so cart path only. We had 2 players and the old timers in front were brutal, picking balls out of water/woods. Ignorant backing up course and never once offered for a faster paced 2 some to olay through. They finally quit around 14 because of so much walking I guess. Really no need to have cart path only but I go with the flow. Was almost a 5 hour round because we caught up to another 4some on 16 and they were on slower side also but too late to play through I guess. Was playing nicely until we had no momentum and had to wait up to 10 minutes between shots. I actually screamed up on a par 3 if it was ok now for us to tee off because they were dicking around (all 4) looking for balls in the water to save money I guess. I will play again eventually, but this left a bad taste for sure. Course was in ok condition, they dont seem likely they water course too often. Played it last year also and was a nice day, so 1 good /1 terrible experience. Best of 3 will decide if I go back again. 😁
Fair value
Played this course on a beautiful day. Course was fair, in good condition. Pace was a little slow. The rangers did try and help. Took 5 hours.
Fun, playable course!
Good course but current conditions were not ideal due to the drought.
Overrated
This place is burnt up and cart-path-only. Nice layout, but not in good condition. Won’t return soon
