Worth the 1hr trip
This was the first time at a troon golf course. I was impressed. I paid around $45 for a single on the weekend. Its was a great deal for the money I would say $80 to 90 would be the most I would pay for this place. They do have a CC feel to it, way better than most public's that I have played. The course was challenging in some spots #8 very long from the Blue tees. #18 was also very hard lost a few balls on that one. Greens were tough I had lots of three puts. Pace of play was not bad for a Sunday went out at 12:30 and finished around 4:30. The front went fine but the back moved a little slower. I would play here again.
What sand?
Traps were like hitting off of hard pan camouflaged by a thin layer of sand. Horrible. Ruins the round. Greens were spotty. Driving range irons only, should have been told when asked about facility before arriving.
Great experience
Other than the slow pace of the foursome in front of us (they eventually let us play through), we had a 4.5 hour round for $56 per person on a Sunday at 1:40 pm. Can't beat that.
Stan and Betsy at a great course
Course conditions great pace of play good. Never saw beverage girl but half way house was good
Great conditions
The only things that I would improve would be more beverage carts/shack,s because we didn't see one until the 11th hole and it was 95 degrees outside, and a picture of the hole that you're playing on the score card. Besides that, excellent facilities and conditions. (Side note: first time players will not shoot well, knowledge of the course and course management is key)
Great Condition
The course was in excellent shape however, it does not warrant the cost. I'll continue to play here every now and then but only if I find a tee time for less. Staff was friendly as always.
One of the nicest courses around the area
The course rarely disappoints ... Troon has done a nice job...greens seem to be closer to a 9 on stint meter than 10-11 historically and one of play was this places biggest issue on weekends and they seem to have improved that as we finished 4 1/2 on the nose....
Disappointing!
A great course slowly deteriorated under its previous management
When I heard that Troon Golf was taking over my expectations were raised. But alas my high expectations crashed when I visited the course recently. The starter spent his time chatting with friends instead of managing the first tee. Computer system not working properly so it took 10 minutes to sign in (partially, because I had to come back after the found to secure the lunch special). Course condition was poor to say the least with deplorable greens. When paying for my lunch after the round shop manager asked how I liked the course. I mentioned the awful greens and he sarcastically replied "what are talking about…there's nothing wrong with the greens" I invited him to take the short walk to the `18th green (the worst on the course) but he declined. The lunch was fantastic served by a first class wait staff. I'll probably come back because of them.,
Challenging course--interesting holes
I've played Mansion Ridge several times. A couple of quirky holes, but a very good layout that challenges any player--and you use every stick in the bag. (Greens had been aerated but were rolled; so putting was pretty smooth and quick.) Always an enjoyable round.
Can't wait to go back
The first five holes are very bland. Then the course kicks in. Up and down, doglegs, water and carry overs keep you alert and adjusts for shotmaking.
Great 18 holes, but facilities lacking
how do you not have the halfway house open and WC available on Mother's Day weekend????? The beverage cart came by ONCE in over 4 hours and only soft drinks. You dropped the ball here....male companions had to use the ladies room at halfway house and halfway house closed!!! Ladies Room at clubhouse missing a sink....not a good start here....
One it's way up
The greens are in tough shape but are improving. The fairways are in very good shape as are the tee boxes. Back nine much harder that the front. Staff is very friendly. Pace of play was four hours fifteen minutes. Could have finished in three and a half but group in front were very slow and no marshall to move them along. Overall fun course worth the money.
Weekday Round
First time playing at this facility. The front nine greens were in terrible shape, the back nine was good. The course is really poorly marked and had construction going on which made the round loud. It was a Monday afternoon and the pace of play was very good. They ran out of water in most of their coolers on a hot day. Unless I get a deal for $15 a round, I would not be returning.
Great Course Structure but Wait to Play
This course is great however I would recommend playing this once the summer picks up and the greens get into shape (I am assuming that it is still recovering from the winter). This course is not super long (from the second furthest back tees) but it plays long with a lot of hazards if you miss your drive. Nice elevations. It plays very slow as well unless your group is hitting in the fairway all day.
Great facility - Well maintained
Tee boxes and fairways were well maintained. Staff very friendly. The greens were recently aerated but still playable. I suspect they will be great soon.
I will play again, although a quick investigation on GolfNow shows the fees change to quite reasonable to fairly high.
sand greens
I understand that greens need to be aerated, but, there was so much sand left on the greens that they were just about un-playable
DO NOT PLAY GOLF HERE...
...this is a Real Estate Development 1st and Golf Course 2nd. The staff could care less about anything-- even mid week.
Played here mid-week - at $69 it was a premium to West Point and Falkirk. No discount on Golf Now.
Place was empty but we still got stuck behind a slow group. We played a couple of holes twice to kill time until a group caught up with us. Starter went by a couple of times - no help. We eventually played through and were OK. The course is long.
Pro shop wasn't sure grill would be opened when we started at 11. When we finished it turned out the grill was opened We went in for a beer and a sandwich. There were 3 guys drinking beer who said the bartender was in the kitchen cooking their food. We waited... and waited. The kitchen can't see into the bar and after 15 minutes we left. Maybe one of the guys had ordered a cake?
Slow play, a pro shop that doesn't even know if the grill will be open, useless rangers and a missing bar tender will not bring me back.
The next Chapter here is 11....
Great Nicklaus Layout
Many interesting holes and great aesthetic layout. Challenging yet fair, and enough tee box options for every level. The disappointing part was pace of play...waited every hole. 8 minute headways put too many people on the course. Saw one ranger all day.
Jack at his best!
Beautiful layout. Played many Nicklaus courses and this one was not surprise. You have to be precise or you won't score well. Enjoyed the challenge and will certainly play it again when I am in the area!
