Brunswick Golf Club - Magnolia/Dogwood

About
Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort is a 27-hole layout located in the fishing village of Calabash, North Carolina, abut 20 minutes north of Myrtle Beach.
It has three distinct nines: the Magnolia, Azalea and Dogwood. On all nines, you need to hit the ball straight off the tee, taking care of the fairway bunkers, some of which are fairly high-lipped. The course has quick, bent-grass greens, moderately large, and lush, well-tended fairways set amidst tall, Carolina pines.
On the magnolia course, there are water holes, and the course is heavily mounded and bunkered.

Spring Golf! Photo submitted by Sshipper on 03/09/2022
Hair Above Average
Course is decent but nothing to write home about. Layout is solid with some fun holes and course is fair with where trouble lies. Pin placements are horrible and the bunkers have way too much sand. Can also tell nothing with the course or its amenities (outside of the bar/restaurant) have been updated since the 80s. That being said, for ~$60 it’s a decent value, especially when you have courses around it charging much more.
Unprofessional Staff/Rushed pace of play.
When I first arrived I was immediately greeted by one of the staffed members yelling across the parking lot "HEY! You ain't gonna golf with that shirt on today!" I said this is a Nike Dri Fit Victory Polo which I bought at the PGA super store. (I play golf several times a week and have never had a complaint at any other course). He said "I don't care you ain't playing with it!" Then I was instructed to ask the people at check if it was fine to wear which they stated it is in fact a good golf shirt and is totally acceptable. If he had a problem he should have just said hey don't know if that shirt will work check with the front desk prior to check in. After that we are paired up with a group who is new to golf so we played a little slower than usual, but that being said we were still 45 min faster than the recommended 2 hour and 15 min pace of play. The ranger asked us every hole just seeing how yall are coming along. This just made us feel rused and unwelcome. I don't mind a steady pace of play but this just felt so rushed. The course layout, greens and fairways were amazing and fun. But the horrible staff experience and rushed pace of play ruined the whole game and my enjoyment foe golfing that day. I probably won't play here again or recommended it due to the poor staff and over all rushed feeling.
Soggy Fairway but can't wait to go back
Unfortuatly, it rained quite a bit the day before we played leaving soggy fairways and cart paths only. In spite of that, we enjoyed the course very much and will definitly play it again when in the area
Look forward to playing this course again
Due to heavy rain in the previous days, the fairways were squishy and not many players on the course. So, play was fast inspite of cart path only. THe green were great and the rest bof the course was fine.
Excellent condition 5/15/24
Course is in great shape. Greens rolled true… were a little slow from the rain the day before but that’s to be expected. Played Dogwood & Azalea… both have great layouts with challenges for every skill level. A handful of island greens gives this course an awesome look. Would definitely play here again… great value for the conditions, layout, and pace (with 3 9 hole courses, I had no one in front or behind all round)
Beautiful Greens
Very challenging layout and greens. Overall Course is in great condition.
Great Course, Great Value
While we had off and on rain showers during the round, the course was in fantastic shape and we enjoyed playing it very much. The layout was good, with holes requiring you to work the ball both directions. The greens putted true with moderate pace to them. The tee boxes were very "turfy" but consistent and plush. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone!
Did not meet expectations
This was a Plantation course. One expects certain standards. These were largely absent.
Tee off was 45 minutes later than reservation time. Course would not make any accommodations such as offering a bucket for the range while we waited or allowing us to drop down to nine holes. They claimed that they could do nothing because I had booked through GOLFNOW.
On the course the conditions were fine but there were very few distance markers - not even the basic 150 yard stakes.
Overall I was disappointed with the entire experience but that was mostly due to the poor management of delays and super slow play. I will not be returning to Brunswick.
Wow!
Everything you would expect from a premier golf club! The professionalism started at the bag drop and continued for the entire day.. the fairways were lush but tight and the greens ran perfectly!
My brothers and I were so impressed that we went back the following day which was a tough choice due to all our options..clearly the best bang for the back in the area including North Myrtle Beach!
