Brunswick Golf Club - Azalea/Magnolia Course
About
Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort is a 27-hole layout located in the fishing village of Calabash, North Carolina, abut 20 minutes north of Myrtle Beach.
It has three distinct nines: the Magnolia, Azalea and Dogwood. On all nines, you need to hit the ball straight off the tee, taking care of the fairway bunkers, some of which are fairly high-lipped. The course has quick, bent-grass greens, moderately large, and lush, well-tended fairways set amidst tall, Carolina pines.
The azalea is routed through thick, Carolina woodlands and has an island green surrounded by oyster shells. That's No. 15, accessible by bridge.

Check the Scorecard/Tee Markers Before Teeing Off
The place was busy at the bag drop/starter's area. Many members were also playing that day as many greeted each other (so much so that it was a little annoying as they tended to be a little loud). The busy-ness prevented clubs from getting loaded onto the carts until close to tee time.
There was a practice driving area - but balls weren't made available with our greens fees.
There's a lot of water on the course - much to the sides of the fairways and the forced carries tend to be small creeks or ponds. You definitely want to look on the scorecard and tee markers before teeing off on each hole to be aware of where the water is.
The course was dry - the fairways and green were green and OK - but the dryness tended to make shots go a little to far if you were trying to lay up short of trouble areas or get a ball into play.
Hard, Fast and Perfect
The greens are perfect! Fairways are hard due to the lack of rain and will punish you on good shots with the extreme roll out. Tee boxes are so hard you'll need a hammer to insert a tee...when the house has more water it's much better. The greens really are spectacular!
Been a few years
I played here as a single and got paired up with some nice gentleman. The course is in great shape. We were chugging along for about six holes and then hit a wall and were waiting on every shot for the rest of the round. No ranger or Marshall insight sight. The greens were excellent
Painfully slow
Conditions, layout, amenities etc nothing matters when it’s so slow there were four groups on many holes. NO ranger ever out to try an do something to speed up play. Ruined a great weather day. Impossible to keep concentration when you wait that long ever hole and every shot. Management should be ashamed of themselves to have such a superb course and make it unplayable. Last week pace of play was fine, this week omg.
Not for for anyone but the over the hill and the elderly
Overall the course was in very good condition...there are two glaring problems though. Everyone was forced to lug around their stuff or leave it all in the bag drop area while warming up because they don't let anyone take a cart until pretty close to their tee time, and all of the carts stay next to the bag drop area until it is time to tee off. The other problem is that the black tees were forced out there because the original course design was not created with these black tees in mind, so if anyone wants to play from the tips and hit a driver rather than 5 woods all day this course is not for you...it is only a little over 6400 from the blues and it is a lil over 6900 from the black tips. The back tees are pretty much all uneven, not blown off, and so hard on a few I could barely get my tee in the ground (all of the other tee boxes were blown off, level, and very nice grass).
Slow play, no ranger
Nearly 6 hours on a Friday afternoon is unbelievable. Needed a ranger on the course.
Lots of water
Played as a twosome and got paired with another twosome, which was good. It kept our group spaced out enough as to not have to wait on every shot. The course is in good shape for the most part, although there were a few tee boxes that lacked a lot of grass. Greens are in very good shape and rolled nicely. All in all, a good round and worth the trip to play. Lots of water, so bring a lot of balls
Great course
The course is in great condition, but pace of play was a bit slow.
Fun course
Course is in great condition. Greens are smooth and fast enough. Good layout and friendly staff. Great course for the money.
Very nice round
Played here with my wife yesterday. I’m a 12 handicap and she’s low 30’s and we both enjoyed the day. The tee boxes, fairways and the greens were in exceptional shape. The sand traps I ended up in (4-5) needed some sand and maintenance, as they were mostly hard pan or just a light amount of sand. There are some holes that water comes into play that you cannot see , but they are all marked with flags so they aren’t a surprise. We arrived about 30 minutes early and we were able to get right out. We played the Magnilua/Azalea, and played the front 9 in about 1:30 with nobody in front of us. We could see a three some in front of us that we could start to see around the 7th hole so we slowed our pace a little abs ended up waiting a bit from the 10th hole on. Wasn’t too bad other than the one guy plumb bobbing after his partners had left the green and then proceeded to 5 putt. Great day overall.
first time playing and thought course was in very good condition for this time of year. Tee boxes good to very good. Fairways mostly very good with some thin areas in the roughs. Greens very good.
Fantastic shape
Course in great shape, fairways, tees, and greens. Never needed to touch ball in fairways . They have taken down some trees and improvements are noticeable. Played dogwood to azalea. Landscape in full bloom and spectacular
Brunswick Plantation
Today's round was hampered by slow play. I would have given 5 stars if not for the long waits to tee off. Great course!
Good for all
Challenging course with water and sand but fair tee lengths to accommodate any golfer. The course plays fair without gimmicks like many courses. Just play strategically and you will be rewarded. Decent greens but not deserving of an A+. We will definitely consider going back.
