The Challenge Golf Club

I played with a couple of my co-workers, and we chose this course because it was in a convenient "mid-way" location, so none of us had to drive too far.

We were teamed up with a single for the day.

The course was in good shape for November. Grass on the fairways and tee boxes was surprisingly green and full.

The layout of the course is decent, but not spectacular. While not extremely narrow, you can find yourself in trouble if your tee shots are errant. Not much water in play, but some very well placed bunkers can catch you.

Greens looked good, but they didn't seem to be consistent with respect to speed. While most were quite fast, there were a couple that were much slower. My entire group found them very difficult to read.

Bunkers were difficult to play from, as the sand was thick, heavy, brown sand, and attempting to play a "normal" sand shot was not practical. I guess we are spoiled by playing courses near the coast where they use a fluffy white sand.

Regardless of how poorly I scored, the course was definitely in great shape for November, and we had a good time.

I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a place to play in the area.

The challenge is just that, a challenge. Great for all skill levels. There are a number of holes where a good tee shot is a must. The greens are in really good shape.

Greens were extremely slow, and so was the pace of play. Not worth it

This course is about as good as you can find for the price. Course is in excellent shape and there are actually rakes in the bunkers!

Played on empty course after it had been raining most of the day. Good experience. Plenty of well-designed and great looking holes. Gets a little cramped in spots so couldn’t help thinking it probably gets really slow when crowded., but what place doesn’t?

First time playing here and I was impressed. The staff was very friendly and the course was enjoyable. I will definitely play it again. It is right off of I-40, so it was easy to get to.

The layout of the course is “Challenging but Doable”. Great round of golf with a couple of friends. Well worth the 44 minute drive from Raleigh.

The Challenge is a mixed bag. The course overall is in good shape, especially the greens, which roll fast and true. Some holes are unnecessarily punitive--good luck keeping your tee shot in the fairway on the fifth hole, for example. Every mistake hurts on this course.

A warning: if you are concerned about the pandemic, you should probably avoid this course. No one in the clubhouse was wearing a mask, nor were employees taking CDC-recommended precautions in the pro shop or the grill.

Great course to play on. Fantastic conditions and really fast and true greens.

A little damp but the course was in great shape. Greens roll true and are tough, but I like the challenge (no pun intended ). And at such a great value it’s a must play if you haven’t already

Waiting on every shot, yet still a 4 hr round. Scorecards don't match GHIN. Early in pandemic tbey were the best, now not so good. People not wearing masks, not sure of carts.

The Challenge is a good course and an excellent value. The greens are in great shape and very fast right now. The only problem is I had booked a hot deal on GolfNow and when I checked in he told me I had to ride in the cart with another single who booked online. Most if the courses I play these days don't even let you ride in the cart with someone who doesn't live in your house since the Covid-19 crisis started. I didn't think he was serious but he told me that I'd have to pay $10 more if I wanted my own cart even though the price I paid online included the cart. The guy I played with was as shocked as I was but he was a nice guy and we got along fine. It seems a very poor practice during a time when we're supposed to be using more caution and limit close interaction with others. I also wonder if this doesn't violate GolfNow's policy. I would hope this will never happen again.

This course is is in the best shape in years. Firm fairways and fast greens. This would be a great place for your fall golf.
