Lockwood Folly Country Club
About
Lockwood Folly Country Club is a superbly conditioned, semi-private, member owned "hidden gem". The course is located at the confluence of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Lockwood Folly River, providing golfers with breathtaking vistas of tidal estuary, moss covered hard- woods and the solitude of nature. Tree lined, nonparallel fairways winding through hardwoods and pine afford a sense of seclusion while challanged with championship golf.

Great Value
Great value for an afternoon round. Pace of play was slow on front due to some older members, but they only played 9 holes so we played the back in 1:40. Greens had a few bad spots but they placed the pins away from the spots, and some greens were perfect. You will have to navigate some water off the tee but the hazards are well marked. Staff and bag guy were awesome. The beverage cart was by 3 times in 18 holes. Club house and views were awesome. Overall a great value.
Nice course
The course was nice the greens and cart paths could use some work. Updating the carts with GPS would be nice as well
Fun Course
A well kept course. **Make sure to grab drinks and snacks before you start, the turn is not at the clubhouse and there is no halfway house.
Fun course to play, but a few greens have some issues
This southeastern NC course is located on the intercoastal waterway. Great layout, a mix of difficulty and some really good risk/reward holes made it a fun course to play. We were greeted as soon as we arrived, and the cart attendants and the counter person were personable and appreciative of our playing their course. The fairways and traps were in surprisingly good shape for the lack of rain that NC had in May. The greens, however, were another story. Many of them had some bare patches, and they were slower than most greens on similar courses in NC. It was sad that the greens were sub-par, because the rest of the experience was definitely above par. One suggestion to players - there is a halfway house at the turn that is not staffed, so prepare to subsist on bottled soft drinks at the turn. Still, was definitely worth the money, even with the greens issues.
It’s just ok.
So first off playing golf is better than not. This course needs some serious help. It’s pretty crappy. I doubt I will play it again. Rivers Edge is much better.
Good course poor greens
The course is challenging and set up well. The greens were very poor. I would play here again. The cost was reasonable on GolfNow.
Greens a little rough but the course is in good shape overall
Fairways were nice, some greens had rough patches. Great layout and a lot of fun to play.
Hidden Gem
Off the beaten path a bit, but worth your while. In good shape, given the lack of rain in the area. What other reviews say about the greens right now are accurate. There are some spots in greens under repair that made putting difficult. Still in better shape than most other local courses right now. But, overall, a very scenic and picturesque course with a fair layout.
There were a few members driving around aimlessly and trying to bounce from hole to hole, which was the only annoyance for the day.
Wish they had a drink/snack cart on course as there is no way to get anything once you are out playing. Nice patio with a view for post-round cold ones.
Enjoyed Lockwood
Enjoyable Monday afternoon on an uncrowded Lockwood Folly course. Course conditions were commensurate with the price paid. Bunkers were well maintained. Greens are typical for this area... as usual watch the grain direction bc downgrain putts will roll out and upgrain putts are hard to hit hard enough. I like courses like this where the layout isn’t Herculean or where you can’t see how the hole plays, and everything is clearly marked, whether it’s 150 markers or tees having markers of the distance to a water hazard off the tee. Others complained about the paths but big deal, I’m paying to play a golf course not drive on ‘pretty’ paths. Thanks to the staff for taking care of me both in terms of hospitality and in terms of giving a nice golf now discount. I’ll be back.
