Playing with my friends
The course looks tired with no grass on tee boxes and greens as hard as a rock. Some of the greens had bare spots covered with green sand and it's a shame that it's got Arnold Palmer's name associated with it. I would not pay more than 25 to play the course again.
Birkdale
We have had alot of rain over the last month. All course are cart path only at this time and Birkdale is no exception. Half of the bunkers are filled with water. Greens have improved over the last 6 months but were a little slow. Overall about as good as the course can be in the middle of a very wet winter.
Wet & Slow Play
The course itself is great. Layout, greens are fast, fairways are in good shape. If it rains a few days before you go however, everything is in rough conditions and makes it hard to score.
A foursome in front of us was told to speed up play at least two times and failed to do so. Our tee time was at 11:48am and we didn’t finish until 5:15pm. Not much the course can do if they fail to speed up, but it was getting ridiculous. For example, we waited on the 15th tee box for about five minutes with a line of two other groups behind us. They weren’t just holding us up, they were holding the whole course up.
Otherwise, this course is great! Highly recommend going on a beautiful sunny day!
So much better!
Even with the recent rain this course has amazed me from 5 years ago...cannot beat the price either
Nice course
Well maintained course with some great challenging dog legs. Hard to find a last minute tee time but if your planning ahead good choose for the area.
Standard
Its a decent course but quite frankly its way overpriced for the condition its in. I think they can get away with it because the area they're in is so populated.
Wide fairways and small greens. I love the layout with a few short par 4s where you can layup off the tee or really go for it. Fairways in good shape, a few bumpy spots on the greens but rolled fairly quick, bunkers washed out. I do enjoy the course overall if you can get a deal or twilight rate.
Excellent
Friendly Staff very nice layout .
We have to go back in the summer when the leaves are not there.
Love the course
A definite must play again
I really enjoyed the course. Staff was nice and I played very good here, whether it was me or the course. I just had a great day.
Needs work
Great layout just doesn’t seem that this course has been maintained very well.
Greens were good and bad. Apparent fungus or some disease on many greens.
Looked like leaves had been in bunkers for days and no rakes.
Played Birkdale Tuesday, will not be back. They need to spend some money on the course. Its a shame.
