Good learning course
The course is hit or miss depending on the time of year. It’s definitely overpriced for the course conditions. This is a $40 course at best but definitely not worth the $60 they charge sometimes. That being said, you’ll be hard pressed to find membership rates as low as it is at Birkdale. Phone system there is very archaic. Good luck getting through.
The staff in general is very friendly with the exception of a few employees. The GM is very helpful and accommodating.
Great layout and great staff
I’ve played here a few times and I have to say some of you think you’re going to get Augusta conditions for a prime $50 tee time Next to Lake Norman with 2 ultra-expensive private clubs. First, this course plays 7014 yds from the tips and I would venture to say that even the lower handicapper, big hitters would have a tough time shooting better than 2/3 under with the length of some of the tougher handicap holes. The blue tees offer a nice spot for the mid-handicappers at 6500 yds. The course layout is a fantastic Palmer design with a little bit of everything. Risk / reward par 5s, a drivable par 4, and a couple doglegs that will require precision with a 3 wood or utility. It also has some holes with wide forgiving fairways only to require a very accurate shot to some smaller greens. Again the greens aren’t perfect but for one of the only courses left with bent grass they are better than fair. Remember, this course gets a TON of PUBLIC play. My only comment would be if you play here make sure you fix your ball mark and 1 to 2 more. That will go a long way in helping the superintendent keep the greens in better shape and have better roll.
One of the best public courses in Charlotte
One of my favorite courses in the Charlotte area. Great course layout and friendly staff. Some difficult holes and some good scoring opportunity holes. Conditioning is great, little patchy on the greens but nothing too bad at all and doesn’t take away from the experience. Would recommend to anyone.
Great Course Close to Home
Good course. Tough challenge and the course is in good condition. Wish more of the players would fix their ball marks, but other than that, great place to play. My first time and I will be back.
Needs help soon
Overall a nice course that could be much better, seems they let it go a bit over the last few years, but prices are down as well. A few holes show the architects interest in a challenge and target awareness, forced layups to prepare for the approach.
Tees: A good selection of tees, (4) provide as much a challenge as you want.
Fairways: Some very wide, some a bit narrow, most holes everything right in front of you.
Bunkers: Un-raked COVID era bunkers. Good amount of sand.
Greens: are in bad shape, many bare areas, many deep marks.
Arnie would be disappointed
Arnie would probably not be real happy with the condition of his course today.
I was able to snag a $35 deal with the GolfNow app and got on for a 130p tee time. I got paired with a guy named Clint who had just retired and moved from California to Denver NC.
He had played before & we're about the same age so it worked out good. He was able to offer some guidance on how the course plays.
I'm sure when this course was first built in 1997 it was considered a premiere course. Not so much today as the years have not been kind.
The tee boxes are good, the fairways are good but the greens were in very poor condition. There were bare spots, unprepared divots and ragged patches. The front nine was much worse than the back.
I really didn't care for the layout and design of this course. Way too many green side bunkers and the green design and pin placement made it very difficult at times.
The Staff was nice, the Starter was great, the check in was smooth and easy and the facilities seemed OK. There is a driving range and a small practice putting green area.
On one of the holes on the front nine, balls that are hit from the driving range and are off-line come into the fairway which is very frustrating.
I doubt I play this course again. I was disappointed since I had heard so many great things about the course when it first opened.
Fun Times!
Course was in good shape. Enjoyed a round with some very nice gentlemen that let join their group. I’ll be back!
Great course layout
Great layout and well kept. On weekends does get a lot of traffic.
Nice place
Met family last minute. Had a great day. Pace of play was great and nice difficult course. Recommend to anyone
TeeOff App
Booked my round through TeeOff. Payed over $30 up front for “taxes” that were supposed to be applied to my green fees. The course apparently has no association with the app and would not honor what I had already paid. Ended up paying $90 to play a $59 course.
Greens
The greens are in terrible condition with weeds. Cart paths are in bad condition
Awful greens
Haven’t played this course in 3-4 years and was shocked at the green conditions! Shaggy and missing turf on many of the greens. Other areas of course were typical for Birkdale.
Will not play again until they fix the greens!
Green's
Not sure what's going on with the green's but they are in pretty bad shape.
Overall good play
Very good layout, Affordable , good value for your money, Ok fairyway, poor green conditions
