Golfer Reviews
Still a classic!
Don't get up here enough but Maggie Valley is the best around. Front nine almost flat. Get ready for a mountain test on the back. I love it!
ALMOST GREAT
I am a greenskeeper by profession, I’m also a single digit handicap. Keep this in mind when you read this because I’m just telling you the real stuff no fluff, no bias. Maggs has the flat valley front and the hilly ridge back. Bear this in mind, your handicap will get it’s workout. The staff here does an great job keeping the course in good playable condition. That said you will not find lighting fast greens here.. and the rough is deep enough to slow your roll. (If they cut some of the par 5 and long 4s down more the pace of pace would be faster, just saying guys)
- [ ] 6 holes your shooting blind into as you do most mountain courses. OK NOW LISTEN UP !!! DO NOT BOOK A TEE TIME ON A TUESDAY AND THURSDAY MORNING !!! I don’t have any problem with any group as long as they maintain the proper pace of play, and repair their ball marks. For this course is 10 min average per hole. So if you show up here be ready for that. It’s popular and the parking lot was full by 9. But on Tues and Thurs mornings the ladies hold court and there is no Marshall to enforce the standard.
- [ ] The driving range is good, grass and mats out to 240 yards. They maintain a very nice short game area for every wedge in your bag out to 70 yards, only thing missing is a practice bunker... oh well no biggie. The greens here are very nice and local knowledge paramount. Ghost breaks and speedy tiers will make you wanna draw a proper greens book. Overall the time to get here and price for the golf is a toss up. If your staying here then it’s a no brainer. During my round a saw the refreshment cart twice on the back 9.. which is nice. But I had to push my electric cart up the hills on the back 9... they don’t use gas powered so make sure your is fully charged or you will not make it around. Will I come back.. perhaps.. but not on a Tuesday or Thursday.
Everything they say about it
Felt welcome on arrival. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Corse plays well. Valley nine is challenging and pretty leve. Mountains demands more thoughtfulness on tee shots but very playable though a challenge. Greens are quite large and have some hidden breaks. This day played cartpath only but manageable. One thing they could use would be yardage marks on cart paths every 59 yards from 200 yards in. 8! Hip and shot it. Very fair course.
Will definitely play again !
Great Course
Greens and fairways were in excellent condition. Views around the golf course are awesome! Play when you get a chance! You won’t be disappointed!
Standard Resort Course in the valley
I've been in the area many times but had never played this course before. I found a hot deal online and decided to make the drive from Asheville to play this course. The conditions of the course itself were really nice, and I really rule out how wet it was, because that's just nature, and there isn't much the greenskeeper can do about a lot of rain. That said, the course doesn't seem to drain well, and you would be wise to wear waterproof shoes. Maybe my standards are getting really high, but I wasn't all that excited about the layout of this golf course, or the challenge of it. It seemed kind of ho hum to me, golf wise. The greens putted ok, but again, it's hard to gauge that based on all of the water soaked into them.
I noticed the regular rate was $75 online, and I wouldn't pay that to play here. The only way I would return is with a friend, and if I got the same $29 deal, because that's all it's worth to me honestly.
MVGC ON FATHER'S DAY
Fantastic golf course. Never disappointed. The course is a pleasure to play. Always in pristine condition. The staff is extremely helpful and courteous.
Old country club style, not resort
If you like old country club style golf courses you’ll like this one, just don’t expect resort atmosphere or course.
Nice mountain course
Friendly, professional staff. Well maintained course. Greens slower than I am used to in Pittsburgh. First 9 flat and back nine mountain picturesque course.
Good day
Perfect weather, friendly staff, golf course in good shape and played in 3 hrs, 40 min. As well as we arrived early and the staff was ok with sending us off early. Very nice day.
great course
great course. greens and fairways were in rather good shape considering the rain we got a week ago
Mountain Golf
Played a few days earlier at another course and blamed my poor playing on mountain golf courses. Then I played Maggie Valley Country Club, man what a difference a top quality golf course makes. This place is in the best condition of any course I’ve ever played in North Carolina, really I’m not kidding. If you have the chance you must play this course.
Awesome course!
This is an absolutely beautiful course nestled in Maggie Valley surrounded by the Smoky Mountains. The staff was friendly. The foursome ahead of us was a little slow but that just allowed us extra time to enjoy the beauty of the area!
Good Shape For Early December
I’ve played here a few times over the last two years, most recently was Feb. 2018, so kind of interesting to start and end the golf year at Maggie. Anyway, course was on the wet side do to rain yesterday, but course was green and in very good shape for the time of year minus a few trouble spots in fairways and two temporary greens, which I’m ok with because that means they care about repairing greens / upgrading course conditions. For the last ‘spring like’ day of the year, 65° and sunny yet very windy, the course wasn’t packed with people so the lack of a ranger and starter was not a factor. For a Sunday, a $36 hot deal for a 12:20 time was a very good deal. Although I don’t think the course is worthy of paying more than $40 on a weekday / $45 on weekends, but if you can score a hot deal for under $40 for this course, it’s absolutly worth it. Sadly, we could not find a number of our drives after watching where they landed rather closely, kind of a mystery, since they actually did a great job of removing remaining leaves and debris off of the course. Younger guy working the pro shop gave me a free bucket of balls, but the new range is about a quarter-mile up the mountain residential street. I look forward to playing here next spring!!
Fun course, excellent staff.
Greens were in great shape. Staff was phenomenal. Fun course to play if you have a little knowledge of it. Very enjoyable.
Great Layout
Tough course with a great layout. Greens have a lot of slopes and border on unfair. If you like elevation changes like me you’ll love it. More challenging than I remember, very tough course. Staff and locals very nice, I’ll play again when in town.
