Island West Golf Club
About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

Tight driving ,tough greens
Since the greens were new they were really hard ,would not hold a shot.but they putted very true.over all an enjoyable round will be back to play again
The course is in good shape they are trying to make it much better. Staff is very friendly.
Course is in rough condition in some areas. Some greens look decent while others look great. Some parts of the fairways are straight dirt with no grass. Bunkers look really good. Wouldn’t have played if I didn’t get a deal on the course. Not worth the money. Guy working pro shop was less than friendly.
Island West
Course was fine. Greens were a little rough! I rented clubs and was given a left handed 3 wood and (2) 8 irons. Also, clubs were low end so I struggled! After playing Heron Point the day before it was a big of step down but I would play Island West again. All in all it was good day!!
Course Has Potential
I heard they have new ownership and management and conditions are improving.
It's a fun layout and very challenging green complexes. Like most courses this time of year, greens are inconsistent and tee boxes struggle to keep their grass.
Regardless, enjoyed the course, staff, and the variety of hole layouts.
I'll be back this summer for sure!
First time
Greeted by a very nice gentleman at the bag drop area where he took my bag and got the cart ready for me. I went inside and the gentleman at the desk to check in was very rude and short; like it was a bother for him to get me checked in and ring up a few snacks. I didn’t know before hand that you had to purchase range balls if you wanted to warm up at all before your round. A little disappointed but it didn’t ruin the day.
Greens could use some work. A few areas on the back 9 where it should be marked ground under repair.
Enjoyed my day and had a good round.
Nice course, EXCELLENT STAFF!
Beside sand traps and a few tee boxes needed a bit of attention the course was excellent. My wife and I enjoyed it and I can’t stress enough how GREAT the staff were.
Grumpy staff
25$ for a rider that didn’t play. Course conditions are very poor and staff was very rude.
Championship caliber course with municipal course greens fees
Myself and three buddies drove down from Columbia, South Carolina on Sunday. It was recommended to us by another friend. Every single person that works at this golf course. From the cart and bag attendant to the ladies in the grill. Everyone was super friendly. The gentleman that we gave our greens fees to, was super nice and very accommodating. We even had an opportunity to meet the owner. He is also a super down-to-earth, accommodating gentleman. You can tell he has a passion for this golf course and it truly shows up when you’re on the course. The course is challenging yet rewarding. If you are hitting good shots, there are a lot of opportunities to score . If you’re not hitting good shots, there are ample layup areas. The greens were in awesome shape, true and fast. I would absolutely recommend everyone come play this course. I think the green fees and everything were $70 before tips. The carts are in great shape Cart paths are in great shape. It was a pleasure to play this course. They have a small pro shop. They do have a big putting green and they have a driving range. Island West, you definitely need to go play it.
High priced for quality.
I was charged an additional $25 for a non playing rider when other nearby courses did not and I was the last tee time and course was not busy. The greens were not well kept. Poorly maintained. Overall enjoyed the layout.
