The Windermere Club
About
Located just outside of Columbia, The Windermere Club sits along the banks of the lake that it takes its name from. Pete Dye designed the golf course, crafting a number of memorable holes. It's his only design in the Midlands. No two holes are alike on this challenging layout, so expect to use every club in your bag. The golf course offers a variety of risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. There are also five, and sometimes six, tee boxes on every hole, making the golf course even more appealing for any skill level. The fairways are generous but lined with mature hardwoods and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Golfers at The Windemere Club will also encounter subtle but tricky elevation changes and several lakes and ponds.

Beautiful Views
I came back to Windermere Club after a 3 month hiatus because I love a Pete Dye design and Bent Grass Greens. They surely did not disappoint. OMG, the difference between March and late May was phenomenal. I am so glad that Windermere Club has focused on it's premier amenity, the greens! They are in terrific shape. I look forward to playing regularly as it is by far the best course in the midlands.
Getting better
There is a big improvement over the last few months, fairways are in pretty good shape and the greens are much better, a little slow and bare in in a few places. I love the layout.
The Windermere Club has made a complete turn around!
I played The Windermere Club this week because of positive things I heard from other golfers. The course has made a complete turn around. The Bent Grass greens were almost perfect and the tees and fairways are in good condition except for a few spots. The bunkers are being maintained and roughs were mowed.
You should make plans to play at Windermere. The rates are great and you want be disappointed.
Fairways need alot of work
Greens will be good in a few weeks. Fairways have a long way to go
Condition of the course has improved drastically!
What an enjoyable course to play now that the condition of the course has been restored.
Life Memory
I would like to personally recommend The Windermere Club. The Pete Dye design and bent grass greens gives the true golfer the experience of a lifetime. I felt like I was on a US Open tract.
I have played many courses around Columbia and all are having difficulty coming out of the rough winter. The Windermere Club had it's share of weather related damage but it is coming out of it faster than any other course I have played. Keep up the good work..I will be back!
Bad Shape
We played here 5 years ago and were unpleasantly surprised. Fairways were horrible. One was unplayable and should have been labeled that way. Greens were some of the worst we've played anywhere. The one temporary green was nicer than the other 17. Candy in pro shop was nice and the day went down hill from there. We played LinRick next day and it was 100 times better. * This is the first negative review that I felt i needed to write.
Windermere
This course has an amazing setup and layout. The fairways were in decent shape, nothing wrong with those. The greens are another story. This course needs to invest into getting better greens. It’s understandable that winter just ended and growing takes some time. Hopefully they fix the greens sooner than later. The staff is very friendly and nice. The chef makes great food and had a woman named Candy who was awesome. All in all I think it is cheaper and better to just get a membership there then to pay 30 There or on GolfNow. Memberships are cheap!
Fairways had very little grass. Every green had bare spot and some greens were unputtable. Not worth the $30 to play. Use your money at another course.
Greens in bad shape
Love course layout and very friendly staff. Fairways are bare and greens do not room true due to weeds, Sandy areas, and bare patches.
Bear
The course greens are in very poor shape. The plans to replace the greens in the future.
This course needs work
I’m a single digit handicap and used to enjoy this course, but every green needs A LOT of tending to. There were patches on just about every green that I had to putt thru plus they were very long on top of that. Fairways seemed like I was hitting out of rough. Haven’t played this course in a few years and I don’t anticipate playing there again. The guy who checked my group in also didn’t seem to know what was going on with the tee sheet and from what I saw there were only a few groups that morning. It’s not that difficult. Sad to see a once decent course struggling.
Dissapointed
I moved away from the Columbia area 2.5 years ago, but had always heard good things about the course, and actually attended a charity silent auction there once as well. The clubhouse and view from it is nice, but the course was in absolutely terrible shape. Lots of crabgrass growing in the fairways, nearly no grass on the green. 95% of the greens look like a 17 year old's face after his first shave, bump here, grass there, dirt here. Not to mention the awful conditions, the greens had been aerated just days before, and of course, no mention from golfnow nor the clubhouse. I was very excited to play this course for the first time, but I will probably never be back. Paid $35 for the round, and could have easily had a 100% better experience for the same cost at Northwoods or several others within a 30 minutes ride.
Great Course!
Had fun playing The WIndermere Club. Awesome layout, reasonable price and fun course to play. You can tell there is a little work in progress at the moment on some the greens but doesnt really effect the ball roll as much as youd think. Cant wait to return to see how the cool weather and work pays off. Everyone in my group had a great time & we're ready to golf it again!
Windermere Golf Club
The course was in the worst shape of any course I've played....ever. They've got severe greens issues and the rest of the course wasn't much better. I played it earlier this year and it was in much better shape. They need to inject some serious cash into the course to get it back up to par.
The staff was very friendly though and the carts were in good shape.
Poor Condition
Great layout by a designer. Lots of traps but not kept in great shape. This course has bent grass greens which have a tough time in SC during any summer. They are not worth playing on right now. Fairways are sparse and hard. Kind of course you appreciate the design but the condition ruins the experience.
Fun to play
Although the greens are in poor conditions and the course could use some grooming overall an enjoyable course to play.
Goat track
The layout is amazing, but the condition of the course is absolutely horrible from tee to green. Didn't even finish my round it was so bad. Left and went to another course.
HORRIBLE just HORRIBLE
I rarely do reviews good or bad, but couldn't let this one go by. They have a TV commercial that says how beautiful their bent grass greens are. I had family coming into town for the eclipse so we decided to play there. What a HUGE mistake and embarrassment. The course is in horrible shape. All but maybe one or two of the greens are cooked. More weeds and fungus on them than grass. I wouldn't dare walk on them barefoot. The traps on the front were ok, but the back was horrible. Some had no sand and had been overtaken by weeds. The fairways were "ok" at best. The cart paths, what paths there were, were horrible too. Notice I keep using the word horrible. I've been to some bad courses, but this one tops them all. I was so embarrassed. The only good thing is we were watching the PGA tournament on TV later that day and their commercial ran. My family gave me a reprieve. Talk about false advertising. I wish I didn't have to give this any stars, but do to post. If you read this and still go there, don't say I didn't tell you so.
