The Windermere Club

About
Located just outside of Columbia, The Windermere Club sits along the banks of the lake that it takes its name from. Pete Dye designed the golf course, crafting a number of memorable holes. It's his only design in the Midlands. No two holes are alike on this challenging layout, so expect to use every club in your bag. The golf course offers a variety of risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. There are also five, and sometimes six, tee boxes on every hole, making the golf course even more appealing for any skill level. The fairways are generous but lined with mature hardwoods and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Golfers at The Windemere Club will also encounter subtle but tricky elevation changes and several lakes and ponds.

A Good Course
Holes 1 and 2 were somewhat wet which made for less than optimal play. There was external construction going on beside the 10th green which was somewhat distracting. Other than that, the course was fine. We enjoyed a meal at the clubhouse grill which was really good. Overall, this is a good course that is reasonably priced. You will enjoy your round at the Windermere!
Course is in bad shape
One putting green was closed as was the driving range which didn’t appear were being worked on but were in unplayable condition. The fairways were baked and had bare areas. Greens were decent but overall I wouldn’t recommend this course in its current condition.
We can play at much better conditioned courses in the area for the same price.
Horrible conditions
This place is not worth playing for the avid golfer. The overall conditions were not good the tee boxes were overgrown and most of them didn’t even have markers, the fairways were like most courses rough and the traps were not playable. The layout has potential but the greens keeper and maintenance guys should be fired. 1 star
windemere
layout of the course was fine. Drainage issues exist but the limited maintenance staff was working on them
Carts terrible
Flat time on number 1. Second cart died on number 12. Called for replacement but no one answered until on 15. Replacement came on 17 after having to push the cart many times. 3rd cart barely made it through. Also was very hot and no water available on the course although many stations set up.
Good value for monies
Very friendly people, good condiction of the overall course, didn’t know the course existed, but will be back
Course has gone downhill
Over the past year I’ve recommended this course. I stated they’ve put a lot of work into the course and made it a lot better. Today I’ve ate my words. Course conditions were terrible worst I’ve seen in Columbia.
Course Could Condition Really Went Downhill
This used to be one of my favorite courses in the area but man it really went downhill. Greens were in some of the worst shape I have played on and nearly every hole felt like I was playing in just some random field. I completely lost interest in playing halfway through the round. For $50+ a round, this course in its current state is 100% not worth it and I do not plan on returning.
Greens were pretty good but…
For the price i would rather play linrick, the fairways are in rough shape with weeds and tall ones on tee boxes. Course has potential but i dont plan on coming back to find out. I hope they figure it out though its a nice area
Fairways just okay
Have played course for many years. It was pristine a few years ago and is reverting back. Fairways not green, som tee boxes with weeds. Greens in good shape and were slow. Will be back, have always unique holes on back 9.
Course Needs TLC
This course has the potential to be a premier course if the staff manicures the course. The course design is very unique (3-4 holes with water running along the fairway to the green, par 3’s you must carry over water, and elevated green with a 30 foot drop-off into a waste bunker). Very long par 4’s and one drivable par 4.
The greens rolled true. The greens and the fringe are in really good shape. Staff did a good job around and on the putting surface.
The course and aesthetics need a lot of help. The fairways need water (bermuda grass was died in areas), need to mow high grass/weeds (high grass along cart path going to next hole and around some tee boxes), and restore/remove bunkers (dirt mixed with grass in bunkers instead of sand). I couldn’t tell if the course is in transition of becoming a links course or staff giving up on the course.
I’m hesitant to refer anyone to the course at the cost of $40 because it needs some work. If you can look past the maintenance needed and appreciate the layout, scenery, and the greens I would refer players to come. I would pay the extra $20 and go play 10 minutes down the road.
Hot, no water
110 degrees and no water refill provided on the course.
Not coming back for a while
I have played here in the past and had no issues but this time it was not that great. Greens are in serious need of repair, cart path is horrible and non existent in some areas. The course layout is great but they really need to think about some maintenance in the near future. I won't be back anytime soon.
