About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Originally opened in 1988 as a private club called Crickentree, the course changed its name and opened to public when it changed ownership in 1996. The golf course is known for its beautiful setting that has everything from meandering streams to towering hardwoods. There is also a scenic 17-acre lake that comes into play on a few holes. The risk-reward layout appeals to players of all skill levels. With good course management, the rewards are plenty, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The golf course is just over 7,000 yards from the back tees, equipped with holes that will please long hitters as well as shorter, trickier holes.

The worst cart paths I have ever ridden on in my life. I can't believe the carts don't fall apart.
The lack of attention to fairly significant issues on the course is evident starting with the cart paths. Almost all bunkers have lost their leading edge as it fades into hardpan/sand and tree roots. The greens were cut at a good height but whoever cut the holes needs significant training as the replaced holes were not level which created unnecessary bumpy putts. There were also 2 holes where the active cup was nearly pulling out of the ground. A few interesting holes and a pretty subpar pro shop. This is clearly a "country course" for the low budget golfer.
Worth the drive
The course is a bit 'out of the way'; and, In mid- April, it was still "off season", apparently, as amenities were lean and conditions less than prime, but, this course has a "Don't Miss" layout...exciting and challenging! The whole foursome want's to play it again.
Great layout and very enjoyable to play. Course is in good condition coming out of the winter. Should be in excellent condition by spring.
The fairways and greens were in very good shape for this time of year. We were able to establish a good pace and played in less than 3 1/2 hours. This course is a real pleasure to play and the holes are very scenic.
Challenging course
This is a very challenging course, with some very difficult, but very interesting holes. It plays very long from the white tees, with some long carries needed from the tee. The red tees are well distanced, with the exception of one water carry which would be beyond the distance of many women. The course was in great shape, fast greens, good tees, and grass is growing in on the mostly green fairways. Overall, a great course to play.
The course has a great lay out.
Course was very wet although it hadn't rained in a couple days. Also the greens were very bumpy and some are burnt out around the edges. Made putting difficult and slow.
The course has a great layout and course is in good shape. Greens are soft and receptive. Pace of play was VERY SLOW and no marshalls in sight.
The course was in great shape and greens in great shape too. Pace of play took almost 5 hours and I was playing as a single. There were two pairs in front of me that would not let me play through. There were no marshalls in sight to even help with the pace of play.
Hidden Gem in Blythwood, SC (just noth of Columbia, SC up Hwy 77)
Long and narrow course with elevation changes.
Pond and creeks to add to it's natural beauty.
Multiple Tees allow you to bite off as much distance as you can chew.
First timers - play it while the leaves are off the trees, as it will get even more narrow when thet are present.
Play it once and you will return again and again.
Recommended to all.
Great layout and good greens
Very challenging course, greens in good condition; good pace of play
Fun course, lost a lot of balls!
Enjoyable play with good pace. Fun layout with challenging Par 3's and scorable Par 5's.
greens held good and putted true
Course was in good shape, the staff was very helpful and friendly. Played the white yrds and it was a fair test.
Nice greens,very challenging
Absolutely stunning views in fall, can't wait to see it in spring.this was as nice as any course I have played on.definetly a challenge to any golfer.
Course is looking pretty tough, and is a poor layout. Also, our electric cart gave out after nine holes.
My least favorite course in Columbia, SC area. You can hit a great drive and be penalized with a sidehill or hanging lie. Lots of blind holes and one really stupid 90-degree dog leg.
Good Course for the Money
I felt the overall experience was average. The course was challenging and overall layout was good. Hole number 17 is a doozy of a hole and enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff at the front desk was very unhelpful when we approached him. This was our first time there and he was very "short" with us and didn't give us guidance to anything about the course (cart location, direction of holes, whether their was a starter, range location and balls). One of the carts gave out about 14 holes in but one of the younger guys in the clubhouse came out and brought us a new one which was greatly appreciated. Overall, the experience was average.
Great fairways, challenging greens
Fairways were in great condition. Clubhouse had cart ready and staff was friendly. They exceeded my expectations!
Fun layout
Friendly staff and the course was in good shape but it was a rough ride (cart paths are very rough). I'll play again when I'm in the area.
Tough but beautiful
Greens were soft but super fast. Fairways were well kept. Get off the fairway and you will be in trouble. Plenty of water to avoid. Most challenging course I have played this year. This course in worth playing, just remember you will lose a few balls and the greens will remind you that we aren't experts at this game.
NIce layout and in good shape
I found the course to be very fair but not easy. The greens were in good shape and the fairways and rough were well maintained. I liked the rolling sandhill topography on this course. It was visually appealing.
Nice underrated course
Tight faiways and elevation changes will challenge the lowest handicapper, but there's something for every golfer here. Usually wide open, the course's "signature" is the 9th / 18th double green nestled next to a large pond. For the money, Columbia golfers will be pleased.
