Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Coulda shoulda woulda

Could be a nice golf course. Views of the lake and several holes that play over water. Hilly and a few blind shots to keep it interesting. Too many houses lining several holes and a country club feel overall. Lots of work being done to greens, traps and fairways. This course needs lots of work. Someday it may e special again. Keep working on it.

Repairs are being done

Course is normally pristine and challenging but all the bunkers are under repair and there are some areas under repair so beware. Otherwise, staff as always are excellent and course is challenging and you are surrounded by the beauty of Lake Murray with lots of deer.

Fun course to play

Overall good course. They are working on the bunkers, couldn’t hit out of them but beyond that I’ll play again.

Ground Under Repair

Nice course, several holes with lake views--beautiful. THREE holes were shut down due to renovations. That said, some traps had already been filled with new white sand...real sand! Challenging, but fair layout. Looking forward to next round later in the spring.

Great course. Will be back

Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area. Course was amazing. Greens were longer but rolled true.

New cart paths are great! You can tell they take pride in their course

Slow Play

Took 3+ hours to play front 9. Reason given was thete was senior tournament earlier in the day. There were 5 groups on 7th hole tee box. Yes, 5 groups. As we were driving down hole 9 fairway, an employee drove up and advised we would be given a free round play for the inconvenience. When round completed, different employee gave free play for 9 holes. Response was we were able to finish 18 holes. Reason for this was many groups left after offer made. Very disappointed a change had been to original offer. Improvement needed on managing tee times when there is tournament.

Beautiful

First time playing here in 5 years. To be honest, significant price increase kept me away. There are so many improvements. Tee to green course is fantastic. Cart paths freshly paved so smooth throughout course. Will be back for sure.

Greens were sandy and fluffy

The course layout is always appreciated. Course was in good condition but the greens were not. Appeared to be recently aerated, left long and extremely sandy.

Enjoyed the course

This was the first time my husband and I played here. We found the course challenging but fun. We followed a twosome who joined another twosome (they seemed to know each other) and their pace of play was rather slow once that happened. Thankfully they only played nine and after that the pace was great. The bunkers could use some attention, but the rest of the course was well cared for.

Solid course

Played in a foursome after a rain event the day before. Was cart path only so I asked to walk but was told they didn't allow that after 9am. Pace of play was super slow anyway, so me walking would not have been an issue. But no worries, I'll just book earlier next time.

Other than that, tees and faiways were in good shape. The greens were consistent and amazing! Despite the rain, they were firm but forgiving.

Will definitely book here again.

Traveling Round

This is a target course that needs to be played several times to feel comfortable with club selections. Course is well maintained and perhaps a little pricey for what it is.
