Northwoods Golf Course
About
Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

The 5.5 Hour Loop
The title says it all, it took entirely too long on an extremely warm day. They need to remove the concrete retaining wall around greens or backfill with bunker surround to allow a more viable option to closely mown turf, next to a sheer concrete face.
Much Improved
It has been a few years since I last played this course. I was very pleased with course conditions from tee to green. Will definitely be back. Only recommendation would to add tee boxed between yellow and red tee boxes.
The overall course was in better shape than the last time I played it. The greens had been aerated a couple of weeks ago so they were still sandy and bumpy. There were also several greens that had burn spots.
I find it crazy that a golf course in Columbia with triple digit temperatures fails to have water available on the course.
Playable xourse
Overall fun playable course. Not gimmicky. Conditions were good with a couple of greens and fairways that were a little rough. Cart girl was awesome and made sure we had cool beverages on a very hot day.
Course in great condition
Greens recently aerated almost back to normal. Course was in great shape. There were plenty of golfers pace of play was great today.
Always a quality round!
Spur is a challenging, fun, and rewarding layout. I have played it for years and it remains in great shape. Got a good deal this time, as the greens were punched last week, but this was not a problem at all. Recent work on some holes has been finished and everything played great! Will be back!
Even after heavy rain
Second time playing here. I'm just visiting the area but every time I come to visit I play here. I have seen some reviews saying some things about the service and I will say I have always been met with nothing but kindness. I'm actually thinking of going back before I head back home. Thank you to the staff for being helpful and caring about the interactions with players
Nice layout- greens average
Like the course layout. Pretty forgiving, Fairways are in good shape. Half the greens were banged up, but not unplayable. Pace of play was great! Price is good. Staff is friendly. Greens hold on approach. Drainage around the greens is below average. Cannot expect to hit in front and roll up. You have to go at the pin. Rated it 4 out of 5.
Sad for this Course
first of all this course used to hold the city tournament I haven’t played it in probably 10 years, but it is the worst shape of any course in Columbia, South Carolina and it used to be one of the best. The fairways have no grass. The greens are absolutely terrible and have fungus all over them and it breaks my heart because it used to be the go to course and apparently they don’t care about it anymore.
The cartpath don’t even exist anymore. Very sad
