About

Rating 71.9

Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

Great Course in Columbia!

Didn't know this place existed. Never heard of it until my buddy said we were booked to play it. Wasn't expecting much. Surprised would be an understatement. This is an amazing course. Never mind the dollar value (as it is relatively inexpensive), it's just a great course. First off, greens/fairways/tee boxes were in great shape. No issues there. Staff was friendly and helpful when needed. Facilities are nice. Now back to the course. Wow. I'm a 16 handicap and your views may differ, but I found this to be an amazingly enjoyable course. This is not a grip it and rip wide open bombing range of a course. It requires you to sometimes forgive the driver/wood and hit a decent iron to set up an approach. There is no such thing as an unguarded green and there are many holes where finding flat ground may be an issue. However, I found it immensely challenging and fun. Tough, but not kick in the mouth, tough. It is my 2nd favorite public course in the Columbia area, behind Cobblestone. Really looking forward to playing it again.

Good value

Northwoods is in good shape, much better than it was years ago. Challenging course that offers little relief on par 3's. Good course to challenge yourself.

Great

The course is in great shape, greens and fairways. The traps were pack from the rains we have had, but should have rake in the morning. Staff was very friendly particularly the course Ranger.

P.B. Dye design that has potential

Unexpected P.B. Dye design that had a few interesting features — a stone retaining wall on the left of the 13th green and a blind shot to the green on 14 that has to be played over an artificial ridge. Overall course layout was good. Tee boxes were poor (I’d grade them a D) fairways were mostly dried out (grade of D) and looks like they don’t water them much in the summer but the course was still playable. Condition of the greens averaged a C+/B-. They were decent and appear to get watered a little. Sadly, the driving range is an F. Pretty beat up balls and just the slightest hint of grass. Greens fee was appropriate, we payed $40 a person. Staff was friendly. Not the best course in the Columbia area but not a total disaster either.

The 5.5 Hour Loop

The title says it all, it took entirely too long on an extremely warm day. They need to remove the concrete retaining wall around greens or backfill with bunker surround to allow a more viable option to closely mown turf, next to a sheer concrete face.

Much Improved

It has been a few years since I last played this course. I was very pleased with course conditions from tee to green. Will definitely be back. Only recommendation would to add tee boxed between yellow and red tee boxes.

The overall course was in better shape than the last time I played it. The greens had been aerated a couple of weeks ago so they were still sandy and bumpy. There were also several greens that had burn spots.

I find it crazy that a golf course in Columbia with triple digit temperatures fails to have water available on the course.

Playable xourse

Overall fun playable course. Not gimmicky. Conditions were good with a couple of greens and fairways that were a little rough. Cart girl was awesome and made sure we had cool beverages on a very hot day.
