Northwoods Golf Course
About
Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

Got lost a couple times
Course needs better/more signs for where the next hole is. I went the wrong way a couple times
Mediocre
Cheap public course which needs a ton of work. They have been bought out and are going to improve, but there are several courses in town to play for under $20 in much better condition.
Bad Starter
The first nine holes were great!! We made the turn & the Starter let 3 young guys tee off instead of letting us play through. Then these guys were hitting 3 balls each, it was 3 of them playing together. This Slowed everyone down on the back nine. We had to wait on every hole for them.
They have made some very nice upgrades to the course. The sand was new. The clubhouse was upgraded Trees were cut down in the parking lot area. Nice work.
Northwoods Improving
Played course a couple of months age and it was in need of care. Would have rated it a 1 or 2 star at best. Course is much improved with lots of work being done daily. Looking forward to playing more in the future.
In town for The Masters
First time playing this course. Got a great last minute deal on GolfNow. Played with a buddy and could not of asked for a better pace of play during Masters week. Course definitely needs some work done to it. Green were spotty and fairways were a little bare. Front side was very wet, not sure why since it did not rain. Definite difference between the two nines. Enjoyed the back more. All in all we had a great day and a very enjoyable round of golf. Thanks GolfNow for another great deal.
Improving
Northwoods has gotten i really really bad shape the last couple years but they are making lots of improvements. However, they need to fix their greens ASAP because they do not exist on some holes
Title
The course needs to work on greens. A lot of construction ongoing. Good course for locals.
great for price
Great to have a place to play at a reasonable rate on a course that is decent and still making improvements
Course holds water
If it has rained within a few days don't go, let it dry
dog fights are running this place!
Before u go call because they allow 5 and 6 somes to play. They take over the course and don't allow you to play through. It takes away from what golf etiquette is all about. I have left numerous times due to this. If they don't address this problem, many locals are going to go elsewhere.
its Getting there!
I have been playing this course for about 3 years. For this time of year and for the money its a Good deal! They are under new management and they have started giving this course the TLC it needs. it will be a while but there will be constant improvement. Its a position course that is a fair test. Give it a chance and keep in mind how the game started.
Sunday morning at Northwoods
Cart path only because of a lot of rain the day before. Played the back first very quickly because everyone else started on the front. Got into a log jam with the second 9 and played with a foursome, but still under 4 hour pace. Course drainage may be an issue there. Greens were not at all pretty, but didn't putt badly. Hopefully, that will improve with the Spring and new ownership. Several holes need reworking, because you can't see the green with your approach shot. #1, #5 & #14 require course knowledge and without a GPS it would be even more painful. Overall it was an enjoyable morning until I had a run in with the guy behind the desk. I volunteered with juniors after my round and was given the 5th degree that another volunteer needed to pay for using the cart while monitoring the kids. He was undiplomatic, untactful, and probably better served cutting grass than working with people. I don't know that I would recommend playing there if it would be a reflection on me, but I would play there again for the challenge and hopefully conditions will improve.
Good for the Price
Challenging, fun course. Greens lack grass, but for the money it's understandable. Upgrades are coming soon, though.
Worst course I've played
Terrible conditions even considering the weather, would never play again at any price.
Great Value
This course is awesome for the price. The staff is very nice and they take care of their customers. Highly Recommend.
Good for the Money
Been trying new courses and at $14.50 I figured I would give it a shot. The course layout is by far the best thing about this course. In fact it has one of the better layouts in Columbia. It's a fun course to play. The fairways are decent and maintained although extremely hard. The only thing that was poor about the course were the greens. They were pretty bad. However, if you are going to spend less than $20 this is the course to go to.
Slow
Took five hours to play 18. After three groups let me play through was playing alone to start then hooked up with a twosomes because it was so backed up. Course was in decent shape just was the slowest pace I've ever played
Good course with great rates.
Booked a last second tee time using GolfNow and I was very pleased with the entire course.
Coming along
Greens were terrible a few months back. They are coming along. But some great prices and close proximity to home make this course one of my go to courses. Friendly staff and comfortable well stocked snack bar invite you to sit have a beer and check some sports on the TV. These greens get back in shape, 5 star course!
Exciting Course
One of the best if not the best designed course in the Columbia area. Great deal for the price. I recommend this course if you want to have a fun round and won't be too bothered that the greens are patchy and in poor shape. The rest of the course is in very good condition, especially the fairways; it's just the greens need re-grassed. It's a PB Dye course, so it has some exciting shots you will get to hit. A few holes have big mounds with cool blind shots...just a good test of your game. A good variation of holes and not a huge amount of elevation change. If you aren't a snob and just want to have fun this is a good choice. I played after downpour last night and many bunkers had pools of water in them. If they raked the bunkers, did better with the greens, and kept a few other features in better condition I think people would rave about this course.
