The Preserve at Verdae
About
The Preserve at Verdae sprawls across a lush landscape of rolling hills and meadows covered with beautiful Carolina forests. Formerly known as Verdae Greens, the golf course was completely revamped but one of the primary goals of the renovation was to find harmony between golf and nature. The carefully reworked course does just that, blending seamlessly into its scenic surroundings. Rambling brooks wander across the layout and provide water hazards on a few holes. The wind is also a major factor on this golf course. The breezes can be either light and refreshing or strong and blustery, making proper club selection even more important. The most photographed hole on the golf course is the par-3 second. If you're lucky enough to come when the azaleas are blooming, this hole offers a breathtaking setting.

Beautiful but tough finishing hope. Photo submitted by u000001682547 on 10/03/2013
Great time and good value
Always enjoy playing at the course. Good conditions for time of the year and the greens are always in excellent shape. Course is not easy but I enjoy the layout and the different tees provide players of different levels to play.
The staff. (Paul, Nancy and Keith). Are always friendly and welcoming.
Verdae Green
I have played this course several times over the past few years. I have always enjoyed the course with one exception. Hole 17 is a dangerous menace to senior golfers. The cart parth is right of the fairway on the side of a hill with steep banks, deep grass, and loose acorns to make a person fall. Each time we have played the course our oldest player, who is 89, walks the 17th hole from tee to green carrying the clubs he thinks he will need. This prevents him from making the climbs back up to the cart after each shot. The cart path needs to be move to the left of the the fairway. Someone is going to get hurt if nothing changes.
Excellent Golf Course
This course was really fun. Fast greens, elevated greens, great course. Conditions were wet from all the rain over the past few days. . Wonderful layout. The course demands a specific shot from every location tee to green. Staff was friendly. I will be back. Loved it!
Challenging course
Always a challenging course for me, in great shape. Pretty wet low areas from all the rain.
Course played good
Good play and good pace. Only issue was my cart had no brakes. I ended up using a rock to put in front of the tire so it wouldn't roll away on an incline.
Great staff and excellent greens.
Everyone was extremely friendly and professional at check in. Greens are in very good shape for January. Overall a great experience and an excellent hot deal value.
Tough Day at Verdae
All things considered, it was a pretty good day at Verdae. Nancy in the pro shop was a real sweetheart and had a pleasant smile on her face. She helped us immensely as we struggled to locate some hot and fresh coffee on a chilly morning.
The starter was also pleasant and extremely helpful with instructions on course conditions and what we needed to do as we navigated the 18 challenging holes.
We were paired up with two very nice gentlemen (Clay & Don) who could blast the ball into the next county. They were friendly, courteous and very kind to put up with two guys who needed two good shots to reach their tee shots.
Cart path only was a struggle for us only because we always seemed to hit our tee shots on the opposite side of the cart path.
The golf course was very wet but fairway conditions were much better than I expected considering the precipitation we’ve had the past several weeks.
The tee boxes were in good conditions and the greens were very, very quick. There were 3-4 very tough pin placements and if you were above the hole, you needed to hit the ball softly or you had a good chance to 3 putt. OUCH !!
All in all it was a fun day. Good company to spend an afternoon with and the golf course conditions were pretty darn good for a brisk January day.
I personally hadn’t played Verdae in a year or more but I plan to return as soon as spring and warmer weather returns.
Be sure to make a tee time at The Preserve at Verdae, you’ll be glad you did.

Played 2 years ago last time-this time felt let down
… this year end June I managed to get a NIE approved for some business meetings and was allowed to travel from Europe into US.
I stayed my favourite hotel next to ghe golf course to use my spare time to play …. But what happened? The course was closed for green aerification… the whole week?
So I ended up with no play!
Disappointing

Terrible pace of play
They asked me for a review (probably not the best idea), so here it is. I live 5 minutes from the course and refuse to play there. The course and amenities are nice, and if you can get the first tee time of the day you will be ok. However, if you can’t play early in the morning because you have a job, or family, or really any normal life, then don’t play. You will need to plan for a 5 hour round so pack some snacks, a TV, any crutches you might need to get you through.
In the past year, I have played it 4 times and I was unable to finish 18 holes. Not an exaggeration we were on track for a 6 hour round.
I have given up any hope that it will get better.
Out priced
The course has a good location and many parts a serene setting.(save the holes by the Interstate highway). Down side is that it runs 30-40% higher price on Golfnow than other courses in the area, and do have that value added.
Great course however they tolerate slow play.
Great golf course. Excellent condition.
Would have received 5 stars however when I was a member there the pace of play was extremely slow. Almost always a five hour round.
The staff have always been great, but a five hour round is not fun. I relinquished my membership and joined another course. It is not as nice as the Preserve however it’s more enjoyable due to play time. 3 1/2 to 4 hour round consistently.
Challenging to the point of annoying
This is Not a walking friendly course. Even in a cart you have to walk up and down hills because nine times out of 10 it’s cartpath only! Anytime it rains here it stays soft and mushy for at least a week! I’ve only played here when it’s cartpath only! I’ve played here about five times.Very poor drainage on the course #3,9,15,16 come to mind. The location is excellent with several things to do all around it including the amenities at the Embassy suites. staff is extremely friendly.. my husband and I wish we’d like to the course more because it’s so convenient! My husband is a very good player and chooses not to make this his go to course.
Great course. Perfect location
I joined Preserve at the beginning of the year and its been a wonderful experience. Not too often do you find a golf course, especially this well maintained in city limits. Its in the heart of Greenville but it feels very secluded.
Staff is very friendly with a good practice area. Highly recommend
Bogey Man
Very nice course & layout. More yardage markers in fairway would have made this a 5 star., for December
Excellent Course
Excellent course for intermediate players. This is not a course I would recommend for beginners. Very challenging but very fair . I would definitely recommend. Great staff!!
