Nice!

This course was a great experience. If your from the Columbia area, it has a golden hills feel but with a Timberlake style. Fun design and very challenging, some of the holes are very rewarding even after bad shots. Don’t get discouraged looking up the huge hill.

Thanksgiving round

Course was in good shape. Greens rolled true and were consistent. A couple of tee boxes needed work, but they were playable. Staff was great, very friendly, and the pro shop had a nice selection at reasonable prices. I will be going back to play again in the spring.

I disagree with your statement about the pro shop having a nice selection!

They have USC and Ga caps and etc but nothing Clemson. Go figure! The “State Park” is 72 miles from Clemson University, 95 miles from USC and 73 miles from UGA. Why is a S.C. State Park selling UGA caps and not a single Clemson cap in the pro shop??? Two reasons: 1. The course gets a lot of play from people across the state line in Georgia. 2. The park superintendent in the pro shop announced when my friend and I walk in both wearing Clemson National Championship caps that he is a USC graduate.

Someone needs to explain to Mr Baker that the “State Park” might be wise to cater to a wider range of S.C. taxpayers than simply those that wear garnet. That’s my 2 cents! Go Tigers!

course condition

Although it is fall and the leaves are going to be an issue, the maintenance of the course was behind schedule. The leaves a" re being blown just off the first cut and of course piling up excessively. That is somewhat understandable, however, I lost three golf balls "in the fairway". The leaves were not being removed quickly enough and finding the ball in the fairway was challenging. When they weren't covered in leaves the greens were very consistent and fast. Two of the pin placements were totally unacceptable, there was absolutely no way to get the ball in the hole and it would not stop within 15 feet.

Players need to learn golf etiquette

For the 3rd or 4th time in a row, I have gotten behind some slower golfers who would not even acknowledge that I was behind them. If they were playing at a decent pace I wouldn’t mind but 1-2 of them would slice the ball 30-40 yards and go look for it for 4-5 minutes as I am on the tee box and could get in front and out of their way. I am pretty sure it’s the same group because I go at the same time most Saturdays. Someone should go out and marshall the pace of play.

A very good challenge.

This course represents an excellent challenge to experienced golfers. Nestled among mature trees, narrow fairways, vertical approaches and intimidating water holes, it can wear you out. The thick rough and slow greens can take a toll on your scorecard..

Good course, Cheap food

The course was in pretty good condition. Greens were a little slow and the tee boxes a little dry. But overall pretty well (fairways were great). This is a pretty tough course, Very very tight. Pretty short course as well. The staff was very friendly and the food was really cheap. Hot dog and Gatorade for only 3.50. Overall great course for the price.

Nice Course

Nice course. Enjoyed views of Lake Thurmond. Several challenging holes with tighter tee shot landing areas - at least for a hacker like me. I played from the white tees, but probably should have played from the gold tees. Favorite hole was #16, a par 5 with approach shot over water to green. Friendly staff. Will certainly try to play the course a second time.

Hickory Knob

The course is in great shape. It is like playing on a private country club because so few people are playing during these warm days.

Great Shape, Slow Greens

Had 11am tee time and course wasn't very busy. Fairways were almost flawless. Greens were in great shape overall but very slow. A couple of them had some thin areas on them but nothing really bad. As we played, the greenskeepers were lightly sanding and verti-cutting the greens, however there was no negative effect on the greens. They were rolling just as smooth and true as the ones that hadn't been done yet. Bunkers were okay but could use a little TLC. Overall, this course should be immaculate in short order.

Lakeside Beauty

The best course for the money I’ve played in the Augusta area. Only draw back was cart path only rule in effect, but it’s due to course getting so much rain lately. Was beautiful from tee to green. Greens were slow, probably rain related. Better than the burnt up greens I’ve seen elsewhere for sure. If you don’t mind the drive, it’s a great place to play. Will go back soon.

Great course at a great price

Hickory Knob golf course is an excellent value for the price. The course is well kept, long & challenging enough for a scratch player yet a high handi capper can enjoy it too.

Hot, slow day

I understand as a single player, pace may be slow but today was very slow. Partly due to cart path only, which is understandable due to the amount of rain that we have had the last 2 weeks, but also with several slow groups. One group of 4 tee’d off on 1 and two of them went back to their car afterwards to get something which slowed the twosome in front of me. Eventually they let the twosome and myself play thru but we caught up with a group of ladies on the 10th tee that were on the 5th green when I approached the 2nd green. At that point we were waiting on almost every shot which made for a 5 hour and 15 minute round. Greens were still a little bumpy and traps were not racked in the morning prior to play which made some of them very hard packed.
