Historical Setting
I see a lot of bad reviews and after playing course I felt compelled to give a contrary point of view. It was 38° and no one was one the course so I can’t really comment on pace of play.
The course fit my eye so I was pleased with that. The tee boxes were in great shape. The greens were soft and holding. They were tight and fast and rolling true. Green grass was multicolored but didn’t affect anything. The fairway grass was soft to hit off of. However, the fairways were so bumpy my neck could barely take riding on it. I,ve never seen anything like it and forgot to ask staff how the heck that happened. Cart paths are asphalt and not in great shape but smoother than the fairways. Looks like they have new bunker sand., which was super white and fluffy. The price is high, but I just figured that was because of location, which is sensational. Killer views of Charleston, Ft Sumpter, Ravenal Bridge, marshes and harbor. It is a typical muni course wide open with no trees. It was a little hard navigating the course because there are no hole signs, which I thought was kind of weird. Anyway, I loved the course and would play again when in Charleston. Staff was friendly.
Vision!
I played this course without any expectations or preconceived notions (as I always do).
The layout and design of the course is great. The views and atmosphere, top notch. The staff is incredible, hard working, friendly and knowledgeable.
The current condition of the course wasn’t great. Hard greens, underdeveloped fairways etc., The pace of play was well controlled. The price comparatively in its existing state, a bit high.
HOWEVER….this course will mature in the next few years into an absolute gem.
While the course wasn’t anything spectacular last week, I can’t wait to play the course again in 6 months, a year and beyond.
I am thrilled to have played this diamond in the rough
Cheers
Chip
The Course
The course is in terrible condition. The greens are patchy and rough, several fairways have large humps and the cart paths are crumbling apart. Very unsafe.
Recently golfed at Legends for $60 a round, but at Patriot’s they are charging $81-84 a round. Not worth the price! You can see the ocean from a variety of locations and not waste your money or time on this course.
Huge disappointment!
We live on a beautiful course in Okatie, SC, so we always try to keep our expectations in check when we visit other venues. That said, this is the only time that I've ever felt compelled to leave a negative review for any course. The quality and conditions of this course are worse than the cheapest municipal course that we've ever played. The greens were covered in bumps, divets, and patches of grass. There was only one green on the course that actually had a consistent surface. I can't even begin to describe the fairways. They were chopped up in most spots, had more mounds than a moguls course on a ski slope, and in general were clearly unkempt. Course restrooms? Two port-a-potties for use...Seriously, at nearly $90 per round. There is no signage to indicate what whole number that you're on, no ball washers, no trash cans. Groups seem to be schedule at 5 minute intervals, and we saw several groups of 5. The whole experience was bizarre,
Overpriced Tourist Trap in bad Condition
If you get the chance to play Patriots Point, pass and drive up the road to Charleston National. This course for the price is an absolute rip-off, it should be a $35 round. Practice range is closed often and at random. The staff here always acts like they are doing you a favor by being there. I've played this course half a dozen times in different seasons and the conditions are always bad. Greens are bad, tee boxes are worse, and there are very few fairways that aren't full of pothole and undulations. Rounds are always sloooow and there is no ranger. Wind is usually ripping if you are on the back 9 after 2pm. I live down the street and prefer to drive to ANY other course within an hour.
Rattled nuts
Other than the views of the harbor ( Not the ocean as the staff will have you believe) There are not many redeeming fetures on this course. The fairways have more bumps than a bombing course in Vietnam. I will say it was a day after a big rain and all the bunkers were filled with water but from what the locals tell us the bunkers are always like cement.
The cart paths look like a bad road in Pakistan...bring your camel. It’s the only safe way to go around.
Then there are the fire ants which are everywhere. Be careful.
This is a $30 course not a $75 course. If you have low standards this is your place. With a view.
Way too expensive for the course/condition
I took customers here and this was during the time of the coronavirus “Stuff”. So perhaps I should give the course/staff a pass given this might be a tough time for all. I suspect their play was very down and who knows how much they’re in the hole thanks to all the economic shutdown that’s happened as a result of the reaction to CV19.
That said, the bag drop guy was friendly as was the cart return dude. Staff at check in looked like they just got news someone in their family died and didn’t care to engage in any conversation or Attempts at jokes. To the point where even customers said when walking out, “geez, real friendly staff they were.” Thats not the start to the day you’re looking for with customers.
That aside, range and putting green was closed due to alleged wet conditions. Course was also cart path only which sucks big time when you don’t favor the side of the cart path on every shot. But that’s not course fault.
Course conditions themselves were below average in my opinion for courses in this area. Teeboxes below average, fairways average to below, greens were average at best. Sand traps were terrible which I suspect was because of virus times and rain and course not taking the morning of. But this should have been adjusted in the price in my opinion. $80 for a round in these conditions was inappropriate in my opinion.
I played the course 15 years ago and the conditions were about the same back then as I recall as well. Average at best. The course is the n a beautiful plot of land with iconic views. But it also means super windy which sucks for my level of play (7 handicap). It was 10-20 mph winds. And it was super windy from last time I played 15 yrs ago.
I would have enjoyed the opportunity to play nearby Charleston National or Dines West but no tee times available.

Horrible Experience
A cow pasture would have been in better shape. Course is in horrible shape, greens were rock hard The staff claims its a denim free course but in all seriousness, work overalls should be the required dress.

Conditions were sub par in a bad way
The staff was friendly.... sorta. For the first few second of the conversation they’re all about helping them you’re an inconvenience it seems. Got there early to try and hit the range since it had actually been dry for a couple of days and the driving range was closed and when I asked why I couldn’t get an answer. The practice green was blotchy and in awful condition and was hoping that wouldn’t be the case with the course but sadly it’s like the greens were burnt up in the middle of winter somehow. Painted and ugly. Bunkers were basically rock solid from not being raked with water still holding in some of them. The course just felt kind of like any other course you’d play that’s flat with palm trees. You had to wait till the last hole to get to the “ocean holes” which were actually just on the inlet which I knew going into it but they insisted it was the ocean lol. If you can get a hot deal I’d say that’s about the upper value of this track but definitely not worth full price. Not even close.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass along your feedback to the staff. Thanks for visiting Patriots Point.
Avoid this dump (no really, its built on a landfill)
This course is just a tourist trap, it is a disgrace to the city of Charleston. The fairways are horrible and the greens are decent at best. There is no ranger to keep pace of play up, and it is usually very slow on weekends. If you pay over $40 to play here you are getting ripped off. The only nice part of the course is 17 and 18 because of the harbor views.

Getting better
The course really went downhill last year but the grounds are starting to look much better than a few months ago. Not far from house and can’t beat the views of the water. Will be back.

Hi. We appreciate you leaving a review and rating us 4 stars. We will inform the entire team, so they know their hard work is paying off. We look forward to having you back @PatriotsPointLinks!

Wayyyyyyyyy Overpriced (Even with HotDeal)
Not worth the money at all. Choose any other course in Charleston.
Wide open
Good layout, great views, many easy holes, a few tough ones. Enjoyable day, great staff. Some mud and standing water but generally good condition

Enjoyed the round
A scenic course with some challenges. The greens were slow and spotty. Very windy. Pace was pretty good.

Poor value
Course is in poor condition, more like a typical city owned course in small town America. Grossly overpriced considering course conditions, even compared with other coures in the Charleston area. Therefore, it is not a good value for your money. Only redeeming quality is the location, with beautiful views of the water, which is the supposed reason they can charge the price

Hello, Shad. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future. Thanks for visiting Patriots Point Golf Links.
pitifully poor patriot point....
location and views were good... but that’s where it ends... bad greens, bumpy fairways and totally overpriced I would not return...

Scenic Course (but could use some maintenance)
Recent play @ Patriots Point comments: while a scenic and decent course,
- prior rains made for Cart Path only play
- no beverage cart on course
- cart paths are in need of repair in certain spots
- golf carts could use upgrading (slow, no electronic screens)
- need to spray and warn of red ant piles on course! 2 of the 3 players were in a pile a few times!

Absolute Trash!
This was my second time playing Patriots Point and it is going to be my last! The conditions of the course were absolutely horrendous. I’m not sure where all the money is going because it’s certainly not going back into the course. If it weren’t for the location of the course, they wouldn’t be able to charge a tenth of what they currently charge. I’ve played courses that cost $10 that are in better shape than this one. Do yourself a favor and save your money. There are plenty more courses in the Charleston area that are far better than Patriots Point and for a better value.
