Not Surprising
Location is everything. What an incredible location. It could have been a fantastic experience, but frankly, I probably wouldn't have been able to afford it if it were. For the price, it was fair. The course is poor, but it is what I would expect in this type of course, public and for the price. The views are spectacular and worth the experience. The course was challenging enough to keep your attention. Small greens and wind that keep you focused. I would play it again, but probably not if I were a local.
Good for the money
Two temp greens due to fungus recovery. Staff was super nice. For those who are complaining about the fairways and such clearly are acting like they paid $300 instead of the actual cost of $70 (for weekday). Cool place. Darn near dunked the 17 par 3.
An Average Muni with a View
No specific complaints about the course, but in the big scheme of available options in the Charleston area it is one that I won't return to. Staff very helpful and friendly. Rate was about average for Charleston area. But, as my Review Title indicates, it felt very much like a 1960s muni as far as layout and condition. Was kind of interesting that many of the fairways were chocked full of indentations (which I suspect is likely due to the ground upon which the course was built). But those features definitely cut down on the roll in the fairway. All in all, a decent outing - and I don't regret playing Patriot's Point - but as an out-of-towner I think next time we visit Charleston we'll go back to Wild Dunes.
Better your Amenities
It was a hot day, temps in the mid 90's. There were not enough water stations and NO cart person driving around selling beverages. The only bathroom was in the clubhouse. Just install a couple of porta-potties get more water stations so we done hydrate. On top of that...they don't allow outside food or beverages.
Unplayable greens
I rarely write reviews, but my recent experience at Patriot Point Links was so disappointing that I feel obligated to warn others. Simply put, the course is in horrendous condition and should not be open for regular play—let alone charging anything close to full price.
I booked my tee time online and even called ahead to confirm. At no point was I informed about the true state of the course. Upon arrival, I was casually told that two of the greens were temporary due to winter damage. What they failed to mention was that the other 16 greens were barely playable—just a patchy mix of mud, sand, and unrepaired divots. It felt more like putting through a construction site than a golf course.
The fairways weren’t much better. The entire course looked neglected, and nothing about the layout or views made up for the poor conditions. It was dull, uninspired, and clearly not being maintained to any acceptable standard.
They did offer a token $10 discount, but frankly, that’s an insult given the state of the course. This is not a minor inconvenience—it’s a fundamental failure to deliver what they advertise.
In my opinion, Patriot Point Links should be temporarily closed until they can restore the course to a basic level of playability. At the very least, they owe it to customers to be fully transparent online and over the phone about current conditions.
Do yourself a favor and skip this one until they fix things—there are too many better options out there to waste your money and time here.
Good value
I would not recommend the course until they eliminate the fungus on the greens. Once they fix the greens, It would be an enjoyable experience.
Will Never Return
I had heard the course was in rough shape, but didn't anticipate that it could be as bad as it was. 14/18 greens were barely playable, made of half sand/dirt. The clubhouse gave us a $5-$6 discount acknowledging their greens needed work, but they didn't indicate just how bad the greens were. It is unfortunate that a course with such amazing views seemingly is unable and/or refuses to hire the staff necessary to maintain a good course. They're charging $95 green fees for a course that's barely worth $40 a round. Nice staff, amazing views, horrible shape.
Course is mending
Greens and tee boxes were rough. A couple temporary tee boxes and greens on the course.
To be fair, the staff was very honest about the conditions and we were well warned before playing.
In terms of scenic, you can’t beat the back 9!
A bit pricey for the conditions but still nice to be out on the course.
Patriots
Course in terrible condition. Greens mostly dead.
This place sucks
I never ever seen this bad greens. Very windy of the ocean front. The staff was some what accommodating. I would never ever return unless they upgraded the course. I played other courses that charge 100 they are in so much better condition.
Tee box sucks
Fairway sucks
Greens not even worth putting. I never saw fungus on putting areas
Worst and most over priced course in Charleston
There are many courses with better conditions that Patriots Point. The current conditions are abysmal.. The course caters to out of town tourist looks for a golf course with great views, don’t fall for it! They have lowered their prices but $89 is still far too much to pay for this dirt track they call a golf course
Greens are rotten
Such a shame beautiful layout awesome course. Greens were unplayable need to shut down for 2 weeks completely redo it. They gave us 20 dollars off for Aerification but that is no aerificstion I have ever seen. Looks and plays rotted. Other than that great views and vibes
