Golfer Reviews
Nice old course.
Heddles Hideaway Golf Course,
I’m sure this course was a private country club at some point in it’s history. The layout was very nice but due to the time of the year and it rained twice and quite heavily several fairways were soggy in spots. Greens were in pretty good condition with average speed. A lot of pretty big elevation changes were challenging to our group because we had never played Heddles Hideaway before. Fairways and greens had not been blown recently so we spent a lot of time finding balls in the first cut of rough because the Bermuda rough was just long enough to hide a ball. Add to that, leaves on the ground and some greens had leaf/other tree debris on them. Pace of play was ok. Small greens and leaf/debris made play a little frustrating. It was an unusual distance from the clubhouse to the driving range. Nothing special about the practice area. Practice area would rate 2 stars because it was in poor condition but at least they had one.
Cheap, challenging, and fun!
I really enjoy playing at this course! Solid greens and interesting holes make for a fun and relaxing day on the course!
Heddells Hideaway
Course was in great condition. Staff was extremely courteous and friendly. Always enjoy playing this course. A lot of risk reward shots out there.
Good
Course was in fine condition minus the greens. I know there had been some rain but had not been mowed in a long time. I had a 2some and figured we’d be paired up. They ended up putting 4-5 2somes out instead of making 4somes. Made for very slow pace. Overall it was a good day for the price. Challenging course if you’re not straight off the tee. I would recommend
beautiful layout
course is under renovation due to all the rain we have had ,all the upgrades has been a huge improvement, and I understand more to come-love it
Blind Shots
I must start out and state that the course was in very good shape and the staff was very friendly. That said, I am not a fan of courses that has this many blind shots. When playing the first time without any course knowledge it is unfair. When you hit a tee shot down the middle of the fairway and end up in the ruff (high and thick ruff) because of a very sloping fairway you could not see..unfair. I would play again and recommend because of the conditions and the staff just not my favorite in the Greenville/Spartanburg area. Not a course to walk!!
Will Not Play Again Until Improvements Are Made
First of all it was very disorganized. Our tee time was 7:38AM. We arrived at 7:20 and it was chaos. There were about four or five carts of people waiting to go off of the first tee with no starter to pace anyone. I went in the clubhouse and asked if we could go off the back. I was told yes. We got to the 10th green and the sprinklers were on. We had to wait for them to go off. The majority of the back nine seemed to be in disrepair. Greens were good, but tee boxes were so dry and hard, we could hardly get our tees in the ground. When we made the turn, I went to the clubhouse to use the men's room and get a drink and the men's room was terrible. I'm sure the course was nice back in the day, but it is in desperate need of repair and maintenance. For now I will take my thirty-six bucks elsewhere.
Great Place
The fairways and the greens were in great shape...
Pretty good course
Not a bad course great value for the price. Can be pretty challenging on a couple holes. Some greens are a little chewed up but you can tell they are trying to fix the issue. Only big problem I see is the amount of geese that are on a couple of holes
Secluded Getaway
Very nice location. Currently under new management. Much improved.
Fair
Good condition for the price. Plays short from the tips. Greens held the ball on approach shots. Greens were a Little hairy but rolled true. Fun little course for people in and around Union or Spartanburg.
Great value for the money
This course has come a long way since I started playing it back in early 2008. New owners have made great improvements to fairways. Greens were excellent shape for winter. I would definitely come back again. I only wish they would improve on the 19th hole facility. A full bar and full kitchen would be nice .
Another good experience.
Always enjoy playing Heddles Hideaway. It's short but lots of slope makes it a challenge. Greens were fantastic for December golf!
fun course for a good price
This is the second time I have played heddles. It is a really good deal for the price. It also has a few good par 3s (12,14,16).
Very pleasant golf course
Few holes with steep slopes and blind approach shots. Good shape overall (even after a heavy rain).
I would like to play it again.
Gd conditions
They are really doing wonderful things with this course it has come around really well since my 1st experience thanks to the staff"
Great experience
I have played this course for over 35 years under several owners and this is by far the BEST condition this course has ever been in. The greens were great, the fairways and tee boxes have had considerable work, the sand in the traps was consistent (although we found a few small rocks) and the staff was very cordial. We will definitely paly Heddle's Hideaway again.
