Hole 3 par 5 Photo submitted by Rick9857150 on 09/10/2013
Great experience
It’s a laid back atmosphere on a challenging course. The staff is very friendly. More signage On the cart paths would be helpful. Overall, you can’t beat Heddles for the price. Great way to include those new to golf.
Worst golf course in America
This could possibly be the absolute worst golf course in America.
I don’t even know how or where to begin to review it.
Let’s just start from the beginning. After checking in at 0835, I proceed to the first tee for my 0847 tee time. Where I find a group in the fair and 2 groups waiting to tee off in front of me. The group directly in front of us is a 5 some, so that should tell you all you need to know about this course’s management team.
While waiting to tee off there is a collection of roughly 20 people surrounding the number 1 tee box, the number 10 tee box and the practice putting green, which is no larger than a standard living room rug.
Then after waiting approximately 25 minutes to officially tee off, I was then exposed to what could possibly be the absolutely worst golf course in America. To call this course a goat path would be insulting to goat paths. You’ll find more grass in the crack in the parking lot than you will on most tee boxes. The fairways are littered with dead patches and unfilled divots. The greens putt and feel like a well manicured shag carpet. The cart paths wind endlessly with no signs or direct. A savvy neurosurgeon could make a small fortune repairing the bugling dics on the pour souls that dare drive them at any rate of speed.
Pace of play is absolutely abysmal. You can time a round on this course with a sundial. I saw two gentleman in the parking lot that were clean shaven and by the time they made the turn they had each grown 3-foot long beards. Then at the turn when asked how the round was going by a staff member, I dreadfully replied “Slow”. The staff member then replied “well that’s to be expected when you have 91 players out before 11am.” I can’t believe there were 91 first time players like myself out golfing that day, no one in their right mind would return to this godforsaken place for a second round.
The ONLY saving grace about this course is the random gun shots that ring out in the distance. This give you a sense of hope that a stray bullet might find you and end the horrendous nightmare that is a round at this course.
Around hole 16 you get a nice view back towards the club house. It is quite reassuring to know that the building hasn’t crumbled to dust in the decades you have been gone on the back 9.
It should be illegal to actually charge a fee to play this course. They honestly should pay anyone willing to waste 7 hours of their lives out there- and even then I would never return. If this was the only course in the world, I would trade my clubs in for a tennis racquet, or pick up knitting, or watch paint dry. All of which would prove to be more enjoyable than a round here.
I’m not quite sure who or what Heddles was, but they need to hideaway this course from every major search engine when using the key words “golf course”.
1st round of the year.
This is a short but challenging track. It was hot but there is plenty of shade trees and thankfully I brought plenty of water.
2nd Time Playing Here In a Week
Fun round today with friends from Michigan. Course is in great shape.
D
Nice value, pace of play a little slow but I was playing alone. Groundskeeper mowing also slowed pace of play. Despite that I would recommend it
Fun Round
Heddles Hideaway can be a very challanging course if you are used to playing flat links style courses. The course was in good shape. Very friendly staff. Will definitely play it again.
Challenging.
Played here Thursday and Friday (convenient location) very friendly staff. The course is not terrible considering what’s going on with corona. Short holes but crazy up and down elevation changes. If I had a complaint it would be the pace. Seems to let members weave in and out as they please. No starter. 1-10 Tee box share a cart path. Very congested. I don’t see how you could play here with out someone with experience or a solid gps. But overall. Price is right. And close to home. I’ll keep coming
Wow, you better keep it in play or bring extra golf balls
Tees were a little rough.
Grass in fairways was scarce.
Greens were bumpy and tough to putt.
Lots and lots of blind shots so be sure to drive up the fairway to see where you need to hit your shot or you’ll be spending more time looking for golf balls than playing golf. You must be accurate and place your shots or your frustration level will be very high.
Great Experience
Great experience once again. The course is hilly and requires some thought about shots to play. The greens were long and slow, and the tee boxes were extremely hard like concrete. Will definitely be back to play again.
The course is very challenging
Had a great day made a few pars played it2 times in a week
Course was in poor condition. T boxes terrible. Greens were hairy and pretty rough. Hard pan fairways. Cartpaths were rough. Not coming back here although the price was cheap. The layout is just weird. You get what you pay for I guess
Nice old course.
Heddles Hideaway Golf Course,
I’m sure this course was a private country club at some point in it’s history. The layout was very nice but due to the time of the year and it rained twice and quite heavily several fairways were soggy in spots. Greens were in pretty good condition with average speed. A lot of pretty big elevation changes were challenging to our group because we had never played Heddles Hideaway before. Fairways and greens had not been blown recently so we spent a lot of time finding balls in the first cut of rough because the Bermuda rough was just long enough to hide a ball. Add to that, leaves on the ground and some greens had leaf/other tree debris on them. Pace of play was ok. Small greens and leaf/debris made play a little frustrating. It was an unusual distance from the clubhouse to the driving range. Nothing special about the practice area. Practice area would rate 2 stars because it was in poor condition but at least they had one.
