Too good for the price
The green fee was lower than most courses in the area but don’t let that fool you. This course was terrific. The grounds crew does an amazing job. Greens were green and true. Great layout. Super fun course. The staff was friendly and very welcoming. I will definitely come back. A+. I wish they had a driving range to warm up but overall that’s minor.
Ugly course
Words can't describe how much I dislike this course. Cart paths just start and then end and nothing is clearly labeled. A porta potty is a sad excuse for a bathroom. Go to the Country Club of Whispering Pines instead.
Ill give it one more shot
Played here for the first time yesterday, had a 10:00 tee time on a Tuesday so figures it wouldnt be too busy, boy was i wrong. Checked in and was informed there were 5 foursomes ahead of me and 2 twosome right behind me. Finally teed off 10 minutes late after waiting for the group in front of me. I played an agonizingly slow 3 holes waiting on play ahead of me , took 50 minutes to play 3 holes!! The group behind me hit into me on #4 while i was still waiting, at that point i decided to pack it in, went back to the pro shop and they gave me a raincheck without a big hassle, so thats one point in their favor. Maybe it was a rare occurance but they need to manage pace of play better. I really didnt see enough of the course to comment on its layout but the conditions definitely are not worrh what they charge. Greens looked awful but rolled decent, tons of poa everywhere, $35 is definitely too much for this course, 20-25 would seem much mpre reasonable to me.
Good value
Considering it was early March, course conditions were good. Greens were fast, some wet spots in the fairways. Overall a good course for early season warm up
Good course! Played after it rained but still happy.
Guy at the pro shop was really cool in letting our family play together even though we accidentally booked different tee times, greens were fast like very fast which is crazy considering how bad it rained the day before. The layout is good, a lot of rememberable holes and the food at the turn was amazing. Got the barbecue sandwich, wife got the rueben and no complaints. First time was a success.
not worth the money
I’ve played Whispering Woods countless times over the years. The course has a great layout but the course has been in terrible shape this whole year. I’ve played it twice this year ( once in May & in July). Tee boxes weren’t mowed in atleast 3-4 days, 40% of the fairways had major dirt spots, and i was charged $40. After finishing the front 9 I went to the pro shop to get my money back only to find out there is no refunds. Great layout but the course/ staff was poor
Fun course
Great friendly staff! Course layout was perfect and made for a very fun round of golf! Definitely would recommend you checking this course out!
Waste of money
This course was a complete waste of money. Don’t waste your time. They do not even cut the tee boxes, very unprofessional course maintenance. Staff was a joke, save your money and play somewhere else.
Course in Terrible Shape
Played this course on a recommendation. Never again. There is no value for your money here. Basically, a cow pasture is in better shape. If they want people to play this course then perhaps some upkeep is in order.
I won't ever be back even though I live in the area.
Fast greens
The greens were fast and true and they were the only course in town not to keep you on the cart part after a heavy rainfall.
There’s too many courses in this area to choose this one
I had never played here and a friend recommended it. I wish he would’ve recommended something else because this has to be one of the worst courses in the Pinehurst area. The guy in the clubhouse was great but that’s where the positives ended. The tee boxes and cart paths were some of the worst I’ve played. Some holes didn’t even have cart paths on the entire hole. The fairways were average or below average and the greens sounded like sponges when you hit the putt. One green was actually 85% unplayable and of course the pin was located in that 85%. The price to play was great but I guess as the old adage goes you get what you pay for.
Good group trip
Tranquil setting and in pretty good condition for early spring. Greens were fast and rolled nicely. Lots of mounds and slopes if you miss a green made for tough chipping. Somewhat repetitive tee to green. Local knowledge would be helpful for scoring.
Not exactly Mr Persinality at check in.
Nice restaurant for after the round
Kafkaesque
Greens were in real shape. That ends the positive stuff. The fairways were just ok, but no cores on most sprinkler heads (on four occasions hurting for balls lost in fairway and finally found in sprinkler). Tee boxes a disaster. Funky layout with 5 par 3s and 5 par 5s. Lots of target golf holes.
The real problems were with what I assume were residents, walking aimlessly around the course o driving carts (with no clubs on them) randomly around the course.
The greens were in good shape but the rest of the course needed some TLC.
Excellent Greens
It is September and somehow ALL the greens are in EXCELLENT shape at this course!! Very enjoyable round of golf! Well worth the drive from Raleigh.
Best deal in Pinehurst area
The fairways were lush and the greens were super fast. This was an excellent deal and I will definitely play this course again.
True Test For Your Game
It has been a while since I've played here. You have to place the ball in certain locations & that still doesn't mean you will score well. The greens are turtle back, the ball rolls away from the hole. It gets frustrating then funny after seeing your playing partners do the samething. Had a good time. Grate price.! The staff was friendly. Cant wait to go back & play.
