Dan Maples, architect of the nationally acclaimed Pit Golf Links, has created another masterpiece only minutes from the Village of Pinehurst. Longleaf Golf & Family Club was formerly the site of Starland Farms, for years the training ground of some of the country's top thoroughbreds. As a tribute to its colorful history, Maples incorporated some of the features and flavor of the old facility into the golf course, including part of the fence and training track. The front nine at Longleaf was designed in the Scottish open style with subtly rolling fairways. The back nine, in contrast, is heavily tree-lined and dramatically elevated. Ron Whitten of Golf Digest called Longleaf "...the most playable course in Pinehurst."

Bad pace of play

After playing 4 hours we had only played 12 holes. We quit and drove off. The course is worth playing if you do mind 6 hour rounds.

Excellent affordable golf in Pinehurst

This is an excellent course with knowledgeable friendly staff. The course was a little dry due to drought conditions in the area but the facilities are first class. Great practice facilities and driving range. True links feel on many of the holes!

No water, cart path only - don’t play here until 2027 !!!

I was aware that the dam which was their only water supply was broken and that the course was dry and brown. What I didn’t know it was cartpath only in September because they were trying to protect the little grass

The guy in the pro shop never said a word to me when I checked in about it I found out when the GPS on the cart kept shutting down and would not let me off the cart path. Don’t bother coming here until 2027 when the new dam is supposed to be done.

Fun course

Course was in decent shape. A little dry, think they have a water issue since their dam broke on the lake. I would play again for the discount price, not worth regular $140 cost.

The fact that they are charging full price to play this course is criminal. The greens are pure but the fairways look like they haven't seen water since '07. They should honestly be giving out little hitting mats to take with you from hole to hole

Horrible management

Booked 18 holes. When we got to the course had to play the back 9 twice because the front had storm . Told it was cart path in 95 degrees weather. Our only option was to get rain checks but being from out of state that was not really a good option. We played with a local guy who said the true reason for cart path only and front 9 being closed was because of a corporate tournament coming up and they wanted course to be in pristine condition(could not confirm but if it's true then that's absolutely monstrous)

Disappointed

When booking it says 18 holes but didn’t find out that the front 9 was closed due to weather till email confirmation of booking. Really wanted to get full course experience! I think this was an app issue not providing information. Hope they get the front 9 fixed soon.

Call ahead.

I booked our tee time from GolfNow and was not aware the greens had been punch 2 days before. Whatever happened to lower rates when they are working the green? $100 for a course with bad greens and muddy rocky sand traps was a waist of money.

Very disappointed

If you are going to charge $100 you should let us know you punched the greens 2 days before. They started us on the back nine, which was fine, until after the turn we were behind a group of five. The bunkers were full of mud and rocks. Just not worth the drive or the money. I understand having to do that to the greens, but for that kind of money at least have the bunkers ready.

Fun course

We travel to the Sandhills area every April for a month.

Longleaf was always a favorite although it has gotten very pricy. We paid $60 from a golf now

Deal but I believe the standard rate is $140.00.

Too much for this course.

Very friendly staff, good conditions.

Good, could have been better.

Overall very average course. Not a particularly interesting layout. Course needs work. Conditions were average, fairways thin of grass, greens while ok on the front 9, were weed covered on the back and speed a little slow. Nice clubhouse, with outdoor bar/halfway house. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Home of US Kids, so maybe a better course for families of different abilities for a reasonable price
