Surprisingly good
Got tee time in early July for $21 on golfnow.com. Played at 7:34 am...older foursome in front of us but they played fast. The course is an interesting layout and was in great shape. No weeds or crabgrass around edges liked some other value courses in Pinehurst. Clubhouse staff extremely friendly, unlike some other Pinehurst courses. Took time to show us around and give us pointers. Front nine has shorter holes and lots of elevation changes. Back nine opens up and a bit flatter but both sides were very well maintained. Would recommend and definitely play there again, especially for $20 in the morning.
As good as it gets !
This place is scenic, challenging and in great shape. Staff treats you like a member, especially Dan. Like Old Tom says "go play" !!
Fum Day
Will come back again. Very nice course in good shape. Fun to play. Staff very friendly on pro shop, 19th hole as well as on the course.
Playing again.
Have traveled to Pinehurst area for the last 10 years and found this course to play last year to get away from the high resort prices. Told myself I would play again if given the chance. Course needs a little loving care but for the most part is very playable. Great price, go play and be challenged! Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.
Golf Review Whispering woods for high and low handicap
Whispering Woods golf course tee time 738 am may 17th.
Golfnow rate was great drove from raleigh to play on a great sunday morning.
Player Handicap 1.2
Staff: Very friendly and extremely helpful. Was greated in parking lot by shop manager was helped with cart and informed of all the twists and turns of the course which proved to be very helpful. Even offered for me to play alone or wait for others to join a group. Most wont bother with that offer but i like the option.
Location: Great hidden gym of a golf course before pinehurst and a great secret course for good rate. Located in between houses in the woods.
Golf Course: Greens are a new young champions bermuda. Not very grainy but roll very fast on flat and downhill but expected slow on uphill. True roll to the greens just line your putt up first and check the cup for the grain. I found looking into the cup to see the frey on the cup helped with grain that was there. But great greens overall very challenging. Tee boxes were in good shape as well as fairways with the typical pinehurst area sand and trees in rough area. Pick your spots on this course. Sand was wet but played fine for me. Lots of doglegs and elevation change, 200 yard shot off the tee in fairway is best play every hole.
Overall course was in great shape the staff was friendly and I will certainly come back to whispering woods to play!!
Thank you for playing at Whispering Woods. We appreciate your positive review and look forward to your next visit. This course has come a long way in the last few years and we are glad people are enjoying this hidden gem in Pinehurst!

Great course
This is a beautiful course very nice greens and fast. This course is very well taken care of can't wait to go play it again.
Thank you for playing at Whispering Woods. We appreciate your positive review and look forward to your next visit. We installed NEW Champion Bermuda greens out there in 2013 so I am glad to hear the greens are rolling great.

Nice layout
This course presents an interesting layout where each hole has its own identity. The majority of the greens are big and slow but watch out a slippery a down hill swinger every few holes that leaves you looking the putt over again. Fun, challenging and overall a pleasure to play.
Nice course
Golf course was in good shape for winter play. The 2-some I joined paid an Internet rate considerably lower than Golfnow rate ($18 vs $32 ). No driving range.
going back soon/ fast greens
the course is much improved from 2 years ago with fairways in better shape. greens are very fast and really make you slow down and consider every aspect of putting. I played another course the next day and found that my Whispering Woods experience actually prepared me well for playing better golf the next day. I will go back. well worth the green fee. staff is very friendly....glad to see you.
RLSELF
Weather was bad but course was in great shape the only thing
that bothered us when checking in there was only one cart at the front it did not have a cover for our clubs on the back we asked for a cart with a cover and the gentleman working states all the other carts are out (there were only two other cars in the lot) needless to say clubs and bag are soaked must be hard to run a golf course with 3-4 carts
Best greens in the area right now
This is not the hardest course in the sandhills area, but it is playable and fun. The greens are smooth and lightning fast right now, as they should be. I highly recommend playing here, especially with the great Golf Now prices.
Shot makers course with excellent greens!!!
A hidden gem. This is not a bombs away course. shot placement off of the tee is critical. Greens are very receptive and run smooth and fast. A definite must play for anyone coming to the Whispering Pines area.
Good Value for the money
I payed $30 but there are cheaper times available. Almost no one on the course so it went very quickly, under 2.5 hours but I can't be sure it's always like that. The course is a bit tight on some holes, mostly on the front with trees uncomfortably near the tee box but the back seems a little more open. I will play it again at that price. No range though which is not good but overall a very good experience.
Ruined Day....
Booked round on 10/4/14 was on the way to play! got a phone call that it was impossible for me to play as they were having a tournament! Was told golf now should not have booked us! No attempt to smooth things out no rain check nothing just told talk to golf now and try to get your money back! Will not go back period!

Golf Now screwed up badly on this reservation. The course had no record of it. I had the printed out sheet with the confirmation number in hand. The Gen. Mgr. said the course had been booked for 6 months for a shotgun tournament and we could not play. Fortunately he called a nearby course and got a time for us there. He also gave us a pass to play his course at a later date at a reduced rate. We both spoke to a Golf Now rep trying to understand how this predicament occurred. She could not find a record of my being charged the $9.96 booking fee despite my having the confirmation sheet in hand that said I had been charged. She assured me that the charge would not appear on my Visa bill which I will check next month when I get the bill.
Good track
Whispering Woods is a good track around this area. There are some patchy spots in the fairways, but overall the course was in good shape. The greens were a tad slow but with the undulations can't really see faster greens. Greens were in great shape. Staff was very friendly. Tee time was at 1130. I was off the tee box by 1100. There was no waiting and finished round in 2 hours. Hidden gem of a golf course.
Very rewarding round.
Played here over 30 years ago and had not returned until this round. What a very pleasant surprise. The greens were excellent and generally the fairways and tee boxes were in very good shape. This is not a long course but does require some accuracy off the tee and for your approach shots. If you are looking for value with a friendly staff and very good conditions, check it out. I was very pleased.

Fun Course
Had a lot of fun on this course. Many challenging holes making club selection decisions extremely important. It was a little soggy the day I played, but otherwise the conditions were great.
Old School Course
Course was in good shape with a traditional lay out, great for older golfers and those that don't hit the ball long. Challenging and fun to play.
Thank you for playing Whispering Woods! We appreciate your positive comments and look forward to your next visit. The course is a hidden gem out there - a Pinehurst experience without the Pinehurst price.
