Course conditions
Whittle Springs golf course is in great condition. The greens are in top condition and a challenge for anyone, no matter your skill level. The staff are always helpful and friendly.
Great course for price and best customer service
Some of the friendliest staff around, greens are good and course is well taken care of. Pace of play was a little slow due to amount of players but that will happen.
We have a great team! We're so glad you enjoyed your round and had an awesome experience with the staff. Hope to see you back again soon! Thank you!
Great time
My wife and I enjoyed our round of golf on Thursday. The course was in great condition, and the greens were in excellent condition. As always the staff were professional and friendly.
Surprisingly Nice!
In Knoxville for a football game and looking for a place to play at a reasonable price. Found Whittle Springs - cheap - and expected a “goat ranch.” Nevertheless, I booked a tee time for 3 people and, when we arrived at the parking lot, I thought I was correct. How wrong I was - employees were friendly and helpful, the carts were in excellent, and the course was in good shape. It is laid-out well and the rolling terrain makes play very interesting. There appeared to be quite a few “regular” players - not surprising due to the value.
Good value if you just want to play
Paid $20 for 18 holes and a cart so that is tough to beat. Don’t come to this course expecting holes secluded in picturesque pockets of nature with perfectly tended grass and you will have a great time. Excellent value and if your just want to get out and play a quick and affordable round this place is perfect. Played the course in 3.5 hours on a decently crowded Saturday morning and could have played faster if the groups in front of mine were more familiar with the game. Tee boxes were in good shape, fairways were decent, greens were a little unpredictable but acceptable. Only terrible part of the course are the rough areas. Lost a couple balls that should have been easily found due to poorly maintained bermuda, but no sweat there. Would recommend this course if you’re just looking to sneak outside for a quick casual round.
best kept secret in knoxville
great place to play golf. greens are in great shape, fairways are really nice, and you can't beat the price. the guys in the clubhouse Rusty & Gil are very friendly, and Brad and his crew do a fantastic job on the course.
Great local course
Whittle Springs Golf course was in terrific condition today. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We always enjoy playing there.
Fine
A good starter course. Rolling fairways. Fare landing areas. Not real long course. Affordable green fees. Would play again. Had a good day.
Great value
Never disappointed with Whittle, greens were in good shape and always solid for the money.
Great value
The course is tight with lots of hills and small greens. The greens were tricky because of the slope. I thought it was fun and challenging.
Better than I remembered
Had not played here in 10 or 12 years. It was in much much better shape then I remembered. The greens were very good and fast. If you haven’t played this course in a while, it is worth checking out. Didn’t remember the par 5s being as tough as they are.
Bad experience
Started playing and the greens were covered in sand and I caught up to the group in front of me and I was told I couldn't play through because they had another group they were with in front of them. Didn't make sense to me, but hey I was on a golf course so I didn't care. Then I started noticing that it just felt like we were all on top of one another, really don't like the way the course is laid out. But the staff was friendly and it's a course so there's that. Basically you get what you pay for with this course.
Tennessee Trip
A nice little old time municipal golf course. Lots of rolling terrain and small greens make up for the course's short yardage. Playing from the tips was a challenge even playing under 5800 yards.
Small Elevated Greens A Big Minus
We can see where locals might enjoy this course after playing it several times. But for a one time round we wouldn't have bothered knowing what we know now. Previous reviews say the course has gotten better, but for us the improvements weren't enough.
While in great shape every green was small and elevated so approach shots needed to land perfectly. Otherwise you may hit within inches of the green only to see your ball roll 30 yards away down a hill.
Frustration began on the first drive as a small slice landed in a pond not visible from the tee. Knowing it was there would definitely have changed our drive angle.
A couple of places the tee box location was confusing and so close we had to take turns with another foursome nearby.
So, too, were the greens and tee boxes. A couple of times we re-teed due to distubance from someone putting just a few yards away.
New greens and cart paths
The new greens and cart paths at Whittle Springs have added value to a round of golf there. The course itself has not changed, still a little on the short side, small elevated greens that if missed make for tough up and downs. Overall a fun course to play for any level golfer....if you need to be challenged a bit more just play the back tees.
Best shape it's ever been in
I grew up next to this course and it was the home course of my high school golf team. I can honestly say the course is in the best shape I have ever seen it in 60 years. The greens have been upgraded with Bermuda and the fairways and tees are getting better and better. It's a short par 70 course on a tight location but was fun to play. If your wedge game is good you can score well. Play it. It's worth your time and a good value.
Good public course..
Friendly staff....new cart paths...good course for all skill levels...
Thank you so much for your review. We value your feedback, and hope to see you back soon.
