Sleepy Hollow Golf Course
About
Sleepy Hollow Golf Course is the top municipal course in the state and it is also ranked as one of the top 20 in the nation. Overlooking the Cuyahoga River Valley, the course is known for its scenery almost as much as its challenging layout. It has a traditional design with a classic "out-and-in" routing, with the incoming holes playing uphill into the wind, making them seem much longer than the indicated yardage. Golfers might be taken aback by the punishing nature of the golf course. There are 58 bunkers strategically placed around the tough greens, which comprise the main challenges of the course. Get ready to be quickly introduced to the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course's formidability with the lengthy second hole, a par 3 that will test even the longest hitters.

Nice but needs some work
Got an awsome value but was a little disappointed in course condition( i know it's August)
Staff is friendly but pace is a little slow at the turn
Starter was awsome !
Sleepy
Course was in very good shape. Hazards were all marked well. They took out barriers on at least 2 of the holes, that had been there for years, and allowed carts on those holes. This should aid in speeding up play, which can be miserable here at times. The range was closed, but we learned it is closed every Tuesday morning til 11AM.
As a metroparks owned course, subsidized by county tax money, I still feel it is overpriced....we did get a good deal on Golf Now. This course is tough, no doubt about it, but pretty fair. If you haven't play it, and you're looking for a challenge in NE Ohio, I would recommend it.
It's Ok
This can be a really fun course if you don't get stuck playing a 5 and a half hour round on a Monday late morning. We picked that time specifically because we know Sleepy like all of the metropark courses has a rep for being slow. The Rangers were even nice enough to add two people to the twosome in front of us at the turn so we could sit even longer at every tee. We got a golf now hot deal so it was worth it, but I would never pay the full price to play here, but I really really hate slow play. If it doesn't bother you than you might be ok. The course condition was very rough on the day I played. The fairway is burned out from the drought and the greens looked like they had been trampled on.
Course conditions were good, staff was friendly but pace of play very slow
The pace of play was very slow and my understanding this is the norm. The back nine has several blind shots (either off tee box or second shots) and with it playing so slow you never knew if the group ahead was clear. The two young, impatient dudes behind us hit several shots into us and nearly hit us twice!!! The course conditions were good considering the amount of play and lack of rain. However the course layout leaves a lot to be desired. Glad to have played it but will not add this course to my regular rotation.
Is Sleepy Slipping?
First let me say a few things- This is the best layout of a classic public course in Cleveland, Stanley Thompson is one of the greatest architects ever, and we've been in a drought,. This course gets a ton of play and takes a beating through the summer, but spotty fairways is really the only thing that was 'bad' about the condition. Pace of play wasn't a problem at 6:30 in the morning. The only real complaint is the 3 or 4 very uneven tee boxes (#3 and #10 the worst). The greens weren't breaking much, but still rolled fantastic. If the course levels out those tees, and gets some easier pins it will be Valhalla once again. Perhaps I'm being a bit critical, and this is still a top 5 course and I play it every chance I get, but it may not be the clear cut #1 it was a few years ago. If you have not seen it you must go. Go Now!!!
I am not sure I quite get the fuss...
Look - this is a nice course. Nice amenities and a good staff. About the course itself, I listen to people RAVE about it, saying it is one of the best in the city, I just don't get it. It is a NICE course - don't get me wrong, but not a lot of variety in the holes for me and some holes that personally, I am just not a fan of.
I encourage everyone to play there and give it a shot to see what you think - but for me, I like plenty of other courses in the city and surrounding a lot better.
Big issue on the negative side is pace of play is typically not great. They get crowded and the rangers/starters try their best - but what can you do? On slower days, there always seems to be slight confusion about where you tee off (1 or 10) and when you should go....
construction never ends
So I get to my ball in the middle of the 7th fairway, 143 out, and there are 9 maintenance guys on the green. A couple of trucks, five or six maintenance carts surrounding the 9 guys on the green, who choose not to move when I am going to hit. Why bother. Pick up, get to the tee box for the usual 30 minute wait for the usual metropark 4 pack of hackers, and this guy lays into a jackhammer for ten minutes. Of course they always put the tee markers behind the tree on the par 3 eight hole, so any thought of a left to right shot are negated. I picked up after 12 holes. When my round approaches 4 hours on a weekday on the 12th hole, I know I should have just hit a bucket and called it a day.
Great Course
One of the better values in Cuyahoga County.
But, bring your "A" game. Not a course for high handicappers.
Very well run golf course.
Love playing this course. Staff very friendly & the course was in great condition. Greens are very challenging so you need to putt good to score good. Booked as a single & was paired up with three very nice gentlemen. One was an ex Indians baseball player, one was an ex Cleveland firefighter. Not sure what the other gentleman did for a living but was nice enough to take this picture of us after the round. They were pushing me down during the picture. Had one of the best times ever golfing. Love this course & these gentlemen were great to play with.
Good metroparks course
Pretty good metroparks course. I used to play here a lot but prices went up so if I can catch a hot deal I do.
Old gem now a clunker
Live in Brecksville but this is the first time playing in 2016. Wow, what happen to this course? Really shocked how bad the conditions were.
Wow, what a test!!
Course was in great shape, fairways mowed tight, rough was thick, green were rolling smooth. Course has one tip stay below the hole if not be prepared for a lengthy comeback putt. Pace of play was good. Only complaint was not enough drinking water on course, coolers had ice but no water. Beverage cart for both sides would be nice on busy days. End of round young man cleaned clubs. Country Club conditions and service.
Always great and challenging!
The greens were maintained perfect but fast and challenging as normal Sleepy Hollow. Fairways were also in great shape except some of the bunkers were too wet or had some water. Overall, the rounding was perfect as always at Sleepy Hollow.
A must play
The quality of the course is outstanding, the grass's in the fairways, rough & the greens are comparable to those private courses. The layout of the course with every kind of topography makes it a challenge compared to those flat courses. This is the way golf was meant to be played.
Sleepy hollow
Great shape. Beautiful day. Good pace of play. Theses are bonus days here in Cleveland
Awesome
This is one of the top 5 courses in Northeast OH, always in great shape. Greens are challenging, long enough for all player levels. You will not be disappointed.
This is a challenging course.
The fall colors are picturesque. The greens are undulated and not slow. One of the nicest public courses in the area.
Spectacular!!!!!!!!
Let me set the scene. First time playing here. Drove 2 hours 15 minutes to play here today. Tee time at 11:45 AM. Sunny, 52, light winds. Played front nine with 2 locals who have played there before. Tees were very good except for 2 par 3 tees that were chewed up, but OK. Fairways were firm and tight, so had to strike ball very solidly. Greens were in excellent condition, but very penal if you were above the hole, but on this day greens were smooth but not that fast on this day. Great variety of holes. Past reviews indicate slow rounds. I can honestly see why since 3 of the toughest hole are within first 5 holes on course, so I can understand why it takes so long to play there when busy. Also if greens were any drier or faster, this would be a bear to putt on. They deserve a five star rating since the layout is great and it should be appreciated by golfers who understand. Will definitely be back next year. Also, we were told Metroparks is getting rid of their catering service next year obviously due to money. On this day, they had clam chowder that was leftover from a clambake they had the day before and it was great and should be kept at course during chilly days. Service at course by staff was great. Hope to get back soon.
great course
This was a great course had a good time playing it the greens were good nice scenic views good food be back to play it again.
Beautiful course
This public course is beautiful and well maintained. However this course defends itself with hills and hazards. Fun!
One thing they need to improve is that the customer service skill an attitude. Go n play n have fun!
