Sleepy Hollow Golf Course
About
Sleepy Hollow Golf Course is the top municipal course in the state and it is also ranked as one of the top 20 in the nation. Overlooking the Cuyahoga River Valley, the course is known for its scenery almost as much as its challenging layout. It has a traditional design with a classic "out-and-in" routing, with the incoming holes playing uphill into the wind, making them seem much longer than the indicated yardage. Golfers might be taken aback by the punishing nature of the golf course. There are 58 bunkers strategically placed around the tough greens, which comprise the main challenges of the course. Get ready to be quickly introduced to the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course's formidability with the lengthy second hole, a par 3 that will test even the longest hitters.

Gorgeous Butt Kicker
This is one of my favorite courses. The layout is beautiful, conditions - impecable, and challenge - ridiculous. I am a mid to low 90s golfer and find breaking 100 to be difficult. It can be a frustrating course but I always find myself excited to return.
Course worthy of a replay
I had never played this course, but my friend insisted that we go. It was really a great round of golf. We never caught anyone in front of us and also never had the annoying jerks playing down on us. We were able to play a nice paced solid round of golf. The course is well maintained and has a beverage cart that makes timely rounds also. This was not the cheapest course to play by any stretch, but it was worth every penny. I cannot wait to play it again.
Great course--rains wouldn't stay away!
We live in Buffalo and come back to Cleveland to visit family & friends often. Being Father's Day, my husband wanted to play his favorite Metro course! Course was in excellent shape--too bad weather couldn't hold off--made it to #9 when the rains came down. Staff readily gave us a raincheck--we'll be back!~
Beautiful Facility
A beautiful course and it was a pleasure to play. Great food, friendly staff. Bring your 'A' game as it's a tough course.
One of the best courses!
Played the course after rain the day before and rain in the morning. The course was very dry for as much rain as we got. Staff very friendly, greens in excellent shape and just a very pleasant round of golf.
dries quickly
After a long rain the course was surprisingly dry. no standing water. Beautiful course.
Pace of Play
They pride themselves on keeping pace of play at 4:35/18 holes. The starter at both 1 & 10 remind you about this as you play through.
County Club golf on a budget
I have played this course at least 20-25 times over the years. Not been there recently, had a friend in town to play and he had never been there. He was amazed at the layout and conditions and $35.00 on a weekday is a nice surprize, as well. A joy to play.
play on the 10th
waited every hole; the twosome in front of the threesome we followed were the bottleneck. ranger was advised but play continued to lag. shouldn't take 5-plus hours for a round of golf!
Long and Challenging
Not your everyday municipal course and certainly not for beginners. This course is not a driver/wedge course. Challenges you to use all your clubs. The course is situated such that ball tee shot placement is important. The greens are consistently tough on every hole. A 3-putt is common based on the tough reads. Expect a minimum of 10 strokes to be added to your typical scorecard, potentially much more.
Not a fun day like we hoped it would be.
We teed off 25 minutes late because it was backed up. We waited on every hole to tee off, and waited on every hole on second shots. Course of play was extremely slow, pin placements were extremely hard, and probably had something to do with slowing course down. Disappointed.
Good and getting better
Love the fact that they've been working on the sprinkler system, based on all the new grass seed and straw we encountered. Now, I wish they'd turn it on! Once the watering schedule is figured out, the course will be truly great. The scenery and layout are great and the practice range is pretty good as well. Worth the 30 min drive. I will return.
Great as Always
Best course is Cleveland. Early in the year, so in few weeks this course will be back to its usual shape. Rough needed trimmed and fertilized, greens much slower than usual. I will be back!!!
Just a great old course
Very challenging but fair . You need to be a good reader of greens to avoid a lot of three putts. One of the best public courses around.
Great day of Golf.........BUT
Fantastic day of golf except for the "Tiger Woods" foursome in front of us.
Throwing clubs, hitting two balls and all 4 players easily shooting 50+ on the front 9 while not letting a 3some through is just unacceptable.
Two fully open holes in front of them with no marshall in sight. To make things worse they didn't even allow us through at the turn. Marshal finally got involved after complaining, played through on 11 and never saw another group on the course.
Great day, great course......stop slamming in groups and you can have the best place in the area.
4 players can shoot 100 and still play under four and a half hours. It is up to the course to make it so.
Always a challenge
Thought track as always. Struggling with a few fairways but hopefully will improve
Overcoming Winter
Greens in pretty good shape but the fairways still are recovering from a harsh winter. Spots of no growth on most fairways.
Tee boxes
Like the course but the tee boxes are very uneven .
October fun
Greens very good shape (no aereation issues). Love Sleepy and all the challenges. Staff at clubhouse very congenial both at sign in and concessions. I'm not sure why they charge a $5 booking fee when most all are 1.99.
Agree with you about slow play at Sleepy. I played there on June 9th and had a lot of time to kill until my tee time because the range was closed for maintenance. Spoke with the starter on the 1st tee for most of my wait. The big problem is people who show up late or at the very last minute for their tee time. I saw one threesome get set back one tee time because they were late, and I was on the tee with a twosome one tee time ahead of mine when the other twosome showed at the very last minute. In talking with the starter I suggested that they take the times out to ten minutes instead of the nine they are currently at. The minute of time will only help a little but the fact that every hour the tee times will be the same might help people remember their tee time and show up on time. He said that he had made that suggestion to John the pro at Sleepy already, but it din't look like it was going to happen. So if you plan to play Sleepy expect on a long day, as it is more the norm than not for five hour rounds.
