Sleepy Hollow Golf Course
About
Sleepy Hollow Golf Course is the top municipal course in the state and it is also ranked as one of the top 20 in the nation. Overlooking the Cuyahoga River Valley, the course is known for its scenery almost as much as its challenging layout. It has a traditional design with a classic "out-and-in" routing, with the incoming holes playing uphill into the wind, making them seem much longer than the indicated yardage. Golfers might be taken aback by the punishing nature of the golf course. There are 58 bunkers strategically placed around the tough greens, which comprise the main challenges of the course. Get ready to be quickly introduced to the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course's formidability with the lengthy second hole, a par 3 that will test even the longest hitters.

Just a great old course
Very challenging but fair . You need to be a good reader of greens to avoid a lot of three putts. One of the best public courses around.
Great day of Golf.........BUT
Fantastic day of golf except for the "Tiger Woods" foursome in front of us.
Throwing clubs, hitting two balls and all 4 players easily shooting 50+ on the front 9 while not letting a 3some through is just unacceptable.
Two fully open holes in front of them with no marshall in sight. To make things worse they didn't even allow us through at the turn. Marshal finally got involved after complaining, played through on 11 and never saw another group on the course.
Great day, great course......stop slamming in groups and you can have the best place in the area.
4 players can shoot 100 and still play under four and a half hours. It is up to the course to make it so.
Always a challenge
Thought track as always. Struggling with a few fairways but hopefully will improve
Overcoming Winter
Greens in pretty good shape but the fairways still are recovering from a harsh winter. Spots of no growth on most fairways.
Tee boxes
Like the course but the tee boxes are very uneven .
October fun
Greens very good shape (no aereation issues). Love Sleepy and all the challenges. Staff at clubhouse very congenial both at sign in and concessions. I'm not sure why they charge a $5 booking fee when most all are 1.99.
Beautiful Course!
I took my father in law to play Sleepy Hollow yesterday and it was the first time either of us had played the course. Not only was the weather perfect, but with the fall colors and leaves changing, it was the most scenic course we have ever played. A rather difficult course, with sloping fairways and very fast greens this course kept us on our toes. We will definitely be playing this again before the season ends!
Great track, bunkers could use some work
Always a favorite course of mine. Great layout, very challenging. Greens were fast but rolled well. Fairways in great shape. Only complaint was the bunkers needed more sand & the upkeep on them wasn't very good. Encountered traps not maintained & little sand.
Otherwise great experience.
GReat course
Great track, greens are tough to read with a lot of false fronts.
Stanley put some great bunker placements to defend the greens and a lot of optical illusions for depth control. This should be a course you play.
Great Course, Too Slow
Played two Saturdays in a row. Tee's off around noon both times. Pace of play was extremely slow. 5.5+ hours both times. The first time we played it was super slow on the front and then opened up on the back. The second time, some group jumped in before us at the turn, having apparently taken 20 minutes for lunch, since they were 2 groups ahead of us on the front 9. Extremely frustrating waiting for 10+ minutes at every hole, with the next group right behind. All staff is 60+ years old so don't expect them to really care about anything. Didn't see a ranger on the course either time.
Great course design and some very scenic and interesting holes. Value is excellent when using sites like golfnow. I played for $24 including fees both times, which is a great discount from their $46 normal rate. Clientele is ok. Given the price and fact it is a Metroparks course, you do see a good amount of people in jeans and t-shirts, as well as hacks who'd be better off at Seneca or Mastick Woods. Clubhouse isn't nearly as big or nice as Big Met or Manakiki.
Every green slopes from back to front. Always keep your ball below the pin to have a good chance at a 1 or 2 putt. Far above the pin almost always guarantees a 2 or 3 putt. Greens can be extremely fast depending on the conditions. Be mindful of the pin locations. Some of the greens are deceivingly deep or shallow, allowing for more/less room for error.
Nice course, worth playinfb
Friendly staff, course in good shape and a real challenge from the tips....pace of play was horrendous but what else would you expect from a public course at noon on a Sunday
This course has exceptional features
This is one of the better courses in Ohio. It was a beautiful day; hot, sunny and a slight breeze. The course was in excellent shape. The fairways were rewarding; release with plenty of roll. Landing in the rough was not too penal, it was cut nicely. The greens were firm and fast and in excellent condition. As many times as I have played this course the pin placement always provides different reads on the greens. Truly one of the most challenging courses I've played, and I'll keep coming back for more!
Fun and challenging
Living in the area I play this course a lot and must say I have never had a bad time playing here. Excellent value and conditions always. For those who commented on the staff being unfriendly, please understand sleepy hollow isn't your typical public course... be ready for your tee time and keep pace. If you want to take your time and practice I would recommend Seneca which is right down the road
staff there grumpy and mean !!! they are overworked and under paid im sure. Must be why they are always grumpy and rude . Mow right next to the green when putting. leaf blowers right next to you when on tee box idle them or shut it off . marshals driving by constantly .. goodness gracious forbid u bring an extra guy they sent my buddy who drove 40 minutes packin told him sorry we don't have room for ya ten minutes later when we tee off we were just a 3 some cause the other hot deal didn't show . greens have sometimes been unfair like us open very firm DONT hold on high 110yard 56 degree wedge ie.. hit the front of the green still roll up the green to the back then not roll down the green due to grain great course unhappy staff period except the g m called to complain 1 time talked to him for an hour he said he knew he had all those issues
I'd play again
Interesting, scenic layout. Conditions seemed a little dry and greens overly firm.
Slightly overpriced. At price paid it should've included bag of balls.
See title.
way too long to play.
no one seened to care a bout holding up the groups behind them. They continued to look for balls. fussed around on course etc. Would not go back
Superb Conditions
Challenging course in great condition that will test your skills. Sloped greens add to challenge.
Greens are fast and slow
We played as a foursome and it took 5 hours and 10 minutes to play. While not blaming the course, I have to say they could have informed the foursome in front of us to speed it up, you would have thought these guys were playing for a million dollars. The greens were quite fast going down hill and the opposite going up hill. It always seemed that you were putting against the grain every time going up hill. The ruff was heavy in spots and the sand traps were smooth and well maintained. The finishing holes were very tough to play as they were into the setting sun, bad design by the architect. Overall I would play there again with an earlier tee time.
Breath taking View Makes Up for Missed Putts
What a view!! From the very first tee and though out the round, you'll find yourself (especially on a clear day) saying exactly that. Overlooking the valley and clear into Pennsylvania (seems like) this layout is simply breathtaking.
With the wide open fairways, keeping the ball in play is not necessarily a tough thing to do, but the sloped greens and the length makes up for that. If you are a long ball hitter, reaching the green in regulation will be easy, but for average length hitters, don't be disappointed to get to many of the par 4 holes in 3 shots.
Approaching the green, be certain to keep your ball below the hole. The greens are fast and putting down hill will definitely guarantee at least 3 putts. Fairways are plush and well maintained and most of the par 3's will punish you if you miss the green on one side or the other.
This is one of my favorites.
Course is in great condition
The course was in fantastic condition and the greens were fast and true. The pace of play was a bit slow as was the pro shop / snack bar staff. Over all this is a great course and good value! Nice practice facilities too!
Agree with you about slow play at Sleepy. I played there on June 9th and had a lot of time to kill until my tee time because the range was closed for maintenance. Spoke with the starter on the 1st tee for most of my wait. The big problem is people who show up late or at the very last minute for their tee time. I saw one threesome get set back one tee time because they were late, and I was on the tee with a twosome one tee time ahead of mine when the other twosome showed at the very last minute. In talking with the starter I suggested that they take the times out to ten minutes instead of the nine they are currently at. The minute of time will only help a little but the fact that every hour the tee times will be the same might help people remember their tee time and show up on time. He said that he had made that suggestion to John the pro at Sleepy already, but it din't look like it was going to happen. So if you plan to play Sleepy expect on a long day, as it is more the norm than not for five hour rounds.
