Sterling Hills Golf Club

After all the struggles the course faced during the drought a few years ago, the place is definitely looking and playing better! Still not perfect, but it’s in much better shape. There is much more grass in all hitting areas, and they have redesigned some of the holes to have intentional flower and wood chip type areas that you have to carry over. Which should help with some water conservation, as well as improving the look of the pace. One of my favorite layouts around this area, I really enjoy this course. I’m glad I was able to play after this virus break, and glad to see the course in better shape. The management works really hard to be welcoming and are doing a great job.

Play here few times a year, always well maintained.

Fantastic value! Worth the 2 hour drive.

This was a good day out during the transition from lockdown to open courses. The course did a good job of allowing golf while taking precautions. We had to walk all 18 holes b/c they ran out of push carts, so reserve one if you don't want to carry - but within a couple days they may have drive carts back.

We got a small bucket of balls to hit on the range, and they did sell some limited sandwichs and ice cold beer and drinks. No ball washers, no sand trap rakes, no touching of flags, no water coolers (could have used that!) but otherwise it was a great day of golf!

Not a bad course, decent price, but conditions weren’t amazing after a month plus of no play. Greens are nice, fairways can be scarecrow or dry, tee boxes only ok. Walk able course but not the shortest to walk. Decently challenging and would be better to play a second time.

Sterling Hills lives up to a sign I saw near the practice green that read 'Great greens for not a lot of green". The condition was awesome, though some residual aeration and sand on greens from recent maintenance, it played very fair. The layout was good, though some green to tee was quite a hike. definitely more of a cart course, but totally manageable with a push cart.

As expected without play for a month, the course looked and played well. Greens were a little slow and bumpy & the tiny ground under repair hole markers were sometimes hard to pick up with a laser range finder. Assuming a good portion of those in front of us hadn't walked in a while, the pace was a little slow...but not horrible. All in all, enjoyed the round with perfect weather and just grateful to be out playing again.

Showed up as a single and played with 3 of the nicest locals you would ever want to meet. I had played the course before but having the local knowledge was a huge help and I ended playing holes a little differently than I had in the past. Course is in good condition. Fairways and few greens had been punched but they were basically fully recovered in most areas. I had a fantastic day despite my cart rolling into the lake lol ! Staff was handling the safely mandates with extreme care and professionalism. Jim , the club manager was especially helpful. I will be returning for sure!

This is a great course. It is plenty challenging. Walking is good, and the course was in fantastic shape. the greens were rolling well, a bit slow at first but then they seemed to speed up a bit but they were quite wet in the morning.

Pace of play was good. finished the round in right around 4 and a half hours. Could have been a bit faster, but Did not spend time waiting on the group in front much at all.

The only real drawback is the small tiny flags and piece of foam in the cups. they could have come up with something better, like having the flag sticks in an upside down cup or like some other courses around the country have done, a little thing to lift up with your putter that lifts the ball out.

I found it very difficult to know where to aim at the greens or even where the greens were without a proper flag stick, but getting to play in Southern California during this whole COVID-19 time, it was still great to be out there.

Everyone on the course followed social distancing, and frankly any courses being closed should not be. They should simply have it so you have to walk and a group of four people., can easily be on a hole and not be within 6 feet of each other.

Having been at home for the last month it comes at no surprise that my playing partners, like me wanted to play a round.

The course was set up to observe all of the new regulations but it makes zero sense not to have water available at every hole especially when it is over 80 degrees outside. I say this since one of the foursome had to be taken off the course in an ambulance when he got dehydrated. You do not have to put cups out since I for one carry a water bottle and would like to have the option to refill it.

I appreciate that the course was taking measures to keep up with social distancing. The fairways and greens were in good shape. The rough was more than that, it was overgrown. They are likely trying to get caught up on maintaining that part of the course.

I like playing golf on this course the layout it perfect. The two downsides are 1) Jim the gentleman that works in the mornings is mean, he enjoys being means and nasty to the customers. I will never golf in the morning at this course again because of him. This is NOT a one time incident, every encounter with him is the same. 2) the course is really slow and that is due to tee times to close to the one in front and allowing 5 people to play together. When we play other course we can complete 18 holes in 4:15, at Sterling after 5 hours and it is dark we are lucky to have completed 16 due to waiting on the players in front of us.

Course stayed open with changes that made it safe when players use common Sense. Golf should not be a problem. Good to get out. Thanks
