Grand Oaks Golf Club

You can tell that this used to be a really nice course. Not any more. You can also tell that with more time and effort, this place can be grand again. Several tee-boxes need repairs, markers for the holes are sometimes missing. Sand traps in poor condition, fair ways pretty good and the greens weren't bad at all. Local the bridges have their side rails removed. Lots of extremely dry spots in the fairways. Cart paths are really suffering in some spots. Ya gotta not only hit it straight, but also be clear on where the water is and how far you hit your drives in the air. So, positioning off the tee is critical. Some of the greens, most, are pretty small, compared with other area courses.

The course was kept pretty well. Fairways were nice, greens were good, and no logjams like other courses to hold up pace of play. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Great location. Some of the tee boxes were drier and it difficult to place the tees (red tee boxes). But it is a great location. Staff friendly and helpful !!! I will return.

Very hard greens and deep rough make the course a challenge. I liked it ok, but wished the greens held more.

This was our first time out this course. We have played many courses in the DFW area, and this course is not worth the green fee. Wide open course, greens were good, lost a ball in the middle of the fairway, sand traps were basically concrete. Not worth the money.

Fun and challenging course. Beautiful trees for shade and the occasional hazard. The small creeks running all through the course add a degree of difficulty, as well as the elevation changes of the greens.

Had a good time playing here. Had some good long drives, only to find that there is a creek that runs through the fairway. The greens were in good condition. Played really fast. a couple bump and runs ran a little too much.

The greens are very good sand trap and areas around the water are in bad disrepair

Greens and course is good overall. All bunkers play as ground under repair.

Course is in much better condition than last played in June, after all the rain. Rough was mowed, greens were as fast as ever for this course. Fairways overall in very good condition. I like this course, convenient, large trees provide shade in hot summer. "New" golf carts a big improvement over the old ones. Bunkers are overgrown and need work.

Busy day being July 4th weekend but they kept everyone moving pretty well. Lots of water to avoid so unless you consistently drive 250 yes you may want to lay up on some holes. Service was great and the cart girl was friendly. Pro shop staff was grey as well. I will be back.

Let me start by saying I have never left a course without finishing UNTIL NOW. This is not a golf course. It is not even fit to be described as a cow pasture. Greens were concrete. Fairways are nothing more than a sand trap with a grass covering. And everywhere else is literally unplayable. Pasture grass meant to be ruff 4 to 5 inches tall to where a ball cannot be found 5 feet off the green. Staff, while friendly enough gave nothing but excuses and certainly offered no refund when we turned in our cart after only 5 holes. This course would be better served as a Walmart parking lot than their excuse for a golf course.

Golf coarse is a hidden gem. Great staff too. Great value for your money.

Staff was great and even though the course had just re-opened after all the rain the course was in pretty good shape. The rough was nearly unplayable and hard to find your ball but they were offering out free balls to stock up with before you played.

The course has been in better condition. The front 9 was nice. However, the back 9 needs work. The recent rain has the back 9 in poor condition. After the water dries up and they clear the course...it will be fine.

Played 4-19-15 after the previous night storms , course drained well . Lots of fun holes , some challenging shots will come your way , but not unfair . The greens are ok and are really small , demanding lots of high drop and spin shots to stay on the greens. You have to be precise hitting them to stay on !! This course could really be nice one if they can thicken up the fairways . There are lots of holes for you to use irons off the tee especially on the tree lined fairways for accuracy1 Go play this course and you will like it more each time you play it ! It would be a shame if they don't keep this nice little course in good shape !!

Giving them a pass somewhat because I played the day after a very hard rain. Beyond the puddles on the course due to it's inability to drain well, the course is in average shape at best. There are many dirt patches in the fairways and the greens are inconsistent and small. You could tell that it used to be a decent course but unfortunately it's just simply not being maintained the same as it once was. I will try them again at some point but not anytime soon. Many more courses in the DFW area that are just a better value for the money.

I've I have been a big fan of this course over the years, and have beaten the drum for it when others thought me absolutely looney.
I remember when the course was very good as Woodcrest, and not so good. I remember when the drainage problems erupted and a good rain would wash out the back nine for days at a time. I remember when it re- emerged as Grand Prairie Country Club and I still played it, and talked it up to friends and family despite the ongoing drainage problems. I was ecstatic when Rick Mei sold Kings Crossing Golf Course and bought this one. He turned it into a very viable course and fixed the drainage issues. Greens were rebuilt with false fronts added, as well as dry poan and rough shod parts of the fairway getting their faie share of a good re-sodding. It looked like the old Woodcrest/Grand Prairie Country Club/Grand Oaks course was finally back on the right track and ready to show off its hidden gem of a Don January Course to everyone.
Sadly, the current staff is not only unfriendly---they are downright snarkey. I had a last minute chance to grab a tee time on the net, and found a good deal, so I took it. I showed up early, and chipped and putted along with several singles, who took their time chipping and putting and each drove off separately to play a solo round. I know because I not only chatted with them on the green, but watched them take off and hit. SO I walked into the pro shop 1/2 hour before my tee time as no one was teeing off. Heck no one was even chipping and/or putting anymore.
The guy behind the counter informs me--"You'll have to wait for your tee time. " I pointed out the lack of crowd and the popen tee boxes. He quickly retorted that "They have a Pairs only in carts rule in place for cheapskates like me." At that point I simply told him I was good, and that he could keep my money---but that he would never see another dime out of me or any of my ilk again.
I guess I shouldn't have bought the tee time that they advertised. Lord knows I never will again, and that I and the dozen or so others I golf with will never be back either. I think I'll post this review on face book as well. After all, "US CHEAPSKATES" can sure get an attitude when we're messed with like that. SO much for the rewards of customer loyalty.

enjoyed playing the course. staff very nice and friendly. course has a very nice layout. you'll have the chance to use all your clubs and work on game course management.
