Grand Oaks Golf Club
About
Grand Oaks Golf Club enjoys a peaceful, tranquil setting among century-old oak trees and an abundance of wildlife. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with tree-lined fairways and small greens that will test your accuracy. It may have a traditional design but there is still some bite to this round. There are several strategically placed bunkers that lurk greenside to challenge you even further. Two meandering creeks weave along the golf course as well, coming into play on a few holes. The layout has a nice mix of holes from reachable par 5s to tough par 3s. Grand Oaks Golf Club is a fair test that is player friendly enough to appeal to players of all skill levels. There are some birdie opportunities available if you play it smart and it's forgiving enough for high handicappers to approach with confidence.

View of #18 Fairway from #1 Senior Tee. Lake is beautiful! Photo submitted by paulpederson on 03/28/2013
Nice , smallish course that you wanna play a quick game , easy to do !
Played 4-19-15 after the previous night storms , course drained well . Lots of fun holes , some challenging shots will come your way , but not unfair . The greens are ok and are really small , demanding lots of high drop and spin shots to stay on the greens. You have to be precise hitting them to stay on !! This course could really be nice one if they can thicken up the fairways . There are lots of holes for you to use irons off the tee especially on the tree lined fairways for accuracy1 Go play this course and you will like it more each time you play it ! It would be a shame if they don't keep this nice little course in good shape !!
Get what you pay for...
Giving them a pass somewhat because I played the day after a very hard rain. Beyond the puddles on the course due to it's inability to drain well, the course is in average shape at best. There are many dirt patches in the fairways and the greens are inconsistent and small. You could tell that it used to be a decent course but unfortunately it's just simply not being maintained the same as it once was. I will try them again at some point but not anytime soon. Many more courses in the DFW area that are just a better value for the money.
USED----- To Love It
I've I have been a big fan of this course over the years, and have beaten the drum for it when others thought me absolutely looney.
I remember when the course was very good as Woodcrest, and not so good. I remember when the drainage problems erupted and a good rain would wash out the back nine for days at a time. I remember when it re- emerged as Grand Prairie Country Club and I still played it, and talked it up to friends and family despite the ongoing drainage problems. I was ecstatic when Rick Mei sold Kings Crossing Golf Course and bought this one. He turned it into a very viable course and fixed the drainage issues. Greens were rebuilt with false fronts added, as well as dry poan and rough shod parts of the fairway getting their faie share of a good re-sodding. It looked like the old Woodcrest/Grand Prairie Country Club/Grand Oaks course was finally back on the right track and ready to show off its hidden gem of a Don January Course to everyone.
Sadly, the current staff is not only unfriendly---they are downright snarkey. I had a last minute chance to grab a tee time on the net, and found a good deal, so I took it. I showed up early, and chipped and putted along with several singles, who took their time chipping and putting and each drove off separately to play a solo round. I know because I not only chatted with them on the green, but watched them take off and hit. SO I walked into the pro shop 1/2 hour before my tee time as no one was teeing off. Heck no one was even chipping and/or putting anymore.
The guy behind the counter informs me--"You'll have to wait for your tee time. " I pointed out the lack of crowd and the popen tee boxes. He quickly retorted that "They have a Pairs only in carts rule in place for cheapskates like me." At that point I simply told him I was good, and that he could keep my money---but that he would never see another dime out of me or any of my ilk again.
I guess I shouldn't have bought the tee time that they advertised. Lord knows I never will again, and that I and the dozen or so others I golf with will never be back either. I think I'll post this review on face book as well. After all, "US CHEAPSKATES" can sure get an attitude when we're messed with like that. SO much for the rewards of customer loyalty.
fast green
enjoyed playing the course. staff very nice and friendly. course has a very nice layout. you'll have the chance to use all your clubs and work on game course management.
good experience
Besides the greens rolling well, the hospitality was spot on; The man at the front desk check in - courteous, the marshall - helpful, concession- front & back nine - friendly
Course was dormant, but how could you tell?
Was probably a great course in the previous decades... It appears as if no one has taken an interest in maintaining this tight course. Yardage markers in the non-existent tee boxes were covered or completely off. Fairways were deadpan soil, bunkers were 1 inch of sand over Texas black clay.
One positive was the postage stamp greens and the undulations that made putting interesting.
Used to be a nice course it appeared, but those days are long gone for what they ask for green fees.
Too many other great courses nearby to pay green fees on a cow pasture... I will not be back.
wonderful course
I would play this course again. The ladies that I played with really enjoyed themselves.
Grand Oaks No Longer Very Grand
I was a member here in the 80's and 90's while being stationed at Naval Air Station Dallas. It was called Woodcrest Country Club then, and was quite a nice course. Back then the staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
The golf course I remembered so well is now seriously neglected by staff, from the pro shop to the course maintenance. The staff appeared indifferent, a lot of the trees (Oaks) are gone, buildings are dilapidated, and the fairways and tee boxes are in miserable shape. The only good thing about the course was the speed of play (you can imagine why), and the greens.
Great course for the price
I've played here a number of times and course is as usual. The greens are where it stands out. A very true roll. Only issue with course is the number of water and mud puddles where the water hasn't drained. More of an eye sore than anything but course is still in good condition
nice course
love this place lots of water greens this time were a little slower than i like last time i played here they were fast maybe around 12 or so
Challenging narrow course.
The carts could use some attention. Some of the carts seats are torn. The carts have died on me twice . Some have windshields and some don't.
Nice course
This course pretty good a couple of fairways could use some attention but all and all this is a really fun course. I would encourage my friends and family to play this course.
Enjoyable
Course is challenging. We played as a 4some for the first 9 and a 3some the second 9 and got in in less than 4 hours. Course was very dry except the greens which were well maintained. Lots of challenges due to water and most of the holes. Staff was friendly as greeters and in the 19th hole after the round.
My cart had almost no brakes but I understand that as equipment nears the end of it's rental contract, it shows some age.
Would recommend this course to anyone that has a decent game though you need to consider where the water is on each hole and play smart.
Great Deal
Great deal for the money and the course was in good shape. I will be going back soon!
A golf friendly course
How the saying goes first impression mean everything well this course left a great impression on me.. The staff was great and the greens followed suit.. A must play!!!!
Well kept course.
Fairways were fine and the greens in very good condition. We enjoyed the course and it was an outstanding buy for the price. We will come back, the people were friendly and it was not crowded. The pace of play was good...we enjoyed playing there. Other players were dressed properly and acted responsibly, which sometimes does not happen on a public course.
First Time at This Course
Enjoyed the play at this course. Greens in very good condition. Need strategy on some of the holes with creeks running through fairways that are somewhat hidden from tee. Pace of play was awesome. 3hrs 5 minutes and this was playing behind slow 4some that decided to take 10 minutes to find lost ball on 18. Teed off about 8:10 and finished about 11:15am. I will play here again. Staff was friendly as well.
actually played 36 holes.pace of play is great later in the day. chuck and the staff are very professional and freindly. cart girls as well..
glad they went public as it makes another nice option in the metroplex. we play prairie lakes a lot and it's nice to have another course so close. we appreciate the staff and different course layout.
Course not in great shape
The greens and fairways were hard as concrete. It definitely needed water in many places.
Great course for the money!
Course is kept in good condition - have played it a number of times.
Great golf course..good stuff..I will going back..
