Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown sits just a few minutes south of Akron. It's one of the area's most popular public courses. Opened in 1962, the golf course has a traditional layout that sprawls across rolling hills. The undulating landscape provides a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Accuracy is key since mature trees frame most of the holes and the massive, contoured greens also present a challenge. If you can keep it in the fairway, there are some great birdie opportunities on the par 5s. Overall, Chippewa Golf Club is player friendly enough for all skill levels to enjoy with the exception of the treacherous 14th, 15th, and 16th holes. This trio, nicknamed the "Bermuda Triangle," will test the putting skills of even the best golfers.

What a little gem!

So me and my buddy accidentally booked this place where it was nearly an hour away from where we live. So we just said screw it and still went out there and wow is an amazing! I’ll just start off by saying the only 2 cons are 1) the bathrooms are very old and just seem dirty. They might not be but just by the looks alone. And 2) The power lines that run right through 4 or 5 holes on the course. On hole 11 I believe it was, you actually have to hit around one of the transmission tower.

Other then that, the course was AMAZING! From the carts with the GPS’s that didn’t have constant ads when you needed information the most. That had nice flyovers when you got to each hole! You could even rent a finn scooter instead of a cart or a tempo walk hands free caddie.

The course itself was in great condition! There’s only a few holes if you get off of the fairway you could possibly lose a ball and the rough is about 2-3 inches in length and very well taken care of! The pace of play is slow in the beginning of the round just because it’s a quick 4 into a 3 so you will catch up pretty quick though after that it separates nicely. For those holes where you can’t see anything in front of you, the gps shows where every cart is so you know when to hit!

Pace of play was 3 hours 50 mins for a Two Some on a Sunday starting at 2 in the afternoon which is amazing if you ask me.

I played this course as part of a golf trip to/around the Cleveland area in late May 2023. This course was included on our itinerary based on its listing as a Top Course by Golf Advisor.

PACE: Tee'd off in the afternoon, and a several groups ahead were "enjoying the day" more than I might. We did come in under 4.5 hours, but 2 groups behind us did drive off the course.

CONDITIONS: Tees and fairways were in good shape. The greens were in good conditions and ran at a fair pace. The bunkers were good.

STAFF: Helpful and friendly. Seemed interested in providing us a top notch experience.

VALUE: Compared to other courses we played, the greens fee seemed just a bit high for an afternoon tee time

LAYOUT: Played the White tees (6,100). This is a wide open golf course that uses the topography and wind as its defense. There is a good variety in hole length, as I used every club in my bag. Some notable holes are the closing doglegs of #7 thru #9. The back 9 starts with back-to-back par 5s (#10 being particularly challenging). Watch out for #15 and #16... they come out of nowhere ready to ruin your scorecard (#15 ruined mine). Though we took a cart, I would consider this course walkable.

Excellent Shape

First time playing here. Heard it was nice and it is! Great shape. Greens and fairways are very nice. Most tee boxes were in good shape (a few need a little help). Carts are nice with GPS. Overall, great experience and would definitely like to play there again! Advice… before beginning play, talk to staff about the Triangle (holes 14-16). Beautiful holes, but tough, especially off the tee on 14 and 16. Club selection is key for both holes. Hit what looked like a great tee shot on 14 right down the middle…only to find out it went in the water. Brutal because I had no knowledge.
