Played this again
The last time I played the course it bit me. This time I shot a 90 without taking in to account my handicap. The fairways were fine, but the greens were the pits. I realize aireation takes places, but this was just pure lack of maintainance. I played with a gentleman who played there often on the back 9 and he said that the county of Fairfax, just does not maintain the course as it should be. They put $$ in their other more expensive signature courses such as Pohick. It will probably be the last time I play there.
Terrible experience
The course wasn't in the best of shape but that wasn't the issue with this course. The issue was the staff, the starter was very rude. When I finished my round I dropped my cart off and cleared out all of my trash to make their job easier and he says "umm you pulled into the wrong parking spot its the 1st spot, move it." So needless to say the cart stayed where it was. Oh and it took 5 HOURS to play.
Crab Grass Everywhere!
Greens were slow but in ok condition. But fairways and rough were crab grass - rather poor condition. Slow round - near 5 hours....
The course had all the challenge I could handle.
The price was great and I hope you have more tee times for a reduced price.
Ok round for Monday AM
Nice round of golf for $35 golf now rate. Round went well. Tee boxes need attention! Greens were bumpy, but you get what you pay for. No driving range makes warmup difficult.
good
I had a good time with easy course
with my friends
below average
this course is in below average shape. The tee boxes are in horrible shape, some are even in reconstruction(18th tee). Some tee boxes actually are completely void of grass. The fairways are in ok shape. the greens are in bad shape. The greens are always slow here but ball marks and unrepaired divots make putting a nightmare.
Do not play this course until late August at least, give these guys time to bring this course back to good conditions
super friendly staff, subpar course
I have been on the search for "my course" in the northern VA area since moving here. I decided to try this course because it had decent reviews and is 15 min from my house. Upon arrival the staff are very friendly and everything is well organized and the club house, while small was well maintained. There was a putting green available but no driving range, just a net for one person to hit into. I was paired with 2 nice gentlemen that frequent this course and they were happy to guide me around. The lay out is nice as the front is rather open and the back tightens up to offer more of a challenge. They work in a fair amount of dog legs so shot makers and bombers have equal chance. The 2 sand traps I found myself in were well manicured and fluffy enough to out without much concern. The view from 17 is great and the venture back to the club house on 9 and 18 are very nice. The only draw back to this course was the condition. This may be because the amount of traffic they get but it was in rough shape. The fairways need attention but the main offender was the greens. They were all slow, but not consistently slow so it was difficult to get a good feel throughout the round. Some greens had bare sand/mud spots but all were riddled with unrepaired divots that made navigating them like traversing a mine field. My tee time was 9:20am so it isn't like they had all day to take the beating. This, unfortunately, was enough issue to bring my day down. It was frustrating getting gir and 3 putting to bogey because there was not a good roll to be had. If the greens were cleaned up I would come back but currently at its mid level price range you could do better paying much less at East Potomac for similar/slightly better conditions or a little more further out for much better conditions.
Solid
Moved very quickly, fairways were in good shape - greens/tee boxes were a little rough. They had just aerated greens. Pretty narrow for a sporadic driver like myself proved to be tough keeping everything in bounds. Overall solid experience though, I'd go back.
Nice course, but not worth the $57 (regular greens fee).
It was a very slow play day. It was cart path only and that created a back up on the course.
This is a great course and the staff is always friendly!
Highly recommend playing here! We always enjoy our round.
Beautiful, never boring course, great experience...!

Slow...
Hadn't played here in years...won't go back...greens match pace of play...slow
Nice course for the high handicap golfer.
I've been playing Greendale for over ten years and play there about once a month -- convenience and price. It's a good course to work on your game. There are a few holes where you can grip it & rip it, and several holes where club selection/shot making is crucial. The greens are slow, and a couple greens need attention.
This course has good features
I played this course for the first time and was surprised that it offers maintained greens and fairways, challenging dog legs and lakes to add to the scenery. If there was a a range to practice or warm up on there, I am sure the course would receive 4 or 5 star ratings.
Greens were very slow.
I enjoyed myself but since the course was wet we had to keep the carts on the paved paths and that made for a very long day.
Nice Public course
Need better drainage and more maintenance but still a good course for beginning golfers and intermediate as well
Great Value and Very Friendly Staff
What a great staff, very friendly and accomodating. Course overall was in good shape and the greens were excellent condition. For a shorter course it has some very challenging holes. Pace of play (it was cool and overcast) was excellent for a Friday finished the entire round in 3 hours.
For the right price, it's a fun course with a challenge
First, do not over pay for this course or you will be disappointed.
The greens are inconsistent and the fairways are not pristine. However, the staff is friendly and you can tell they care about the course. It is not easy to take care of a course like this one and I think they do a good job. The course design is excellent and challenging for any skill level. Greendale is one of the better muni golf courses in NOVA and golfnow's hot deals can not be beat!
