Spring Golf
First, I will say the course was in very good condition. However, this course is nothing more than a golf slogg. Narrow fairways on just about every hole with the greatest challenge being how strait you can hit your ball off every tee . Should you be unfortunate enough to get in the bent grass rough...good luck finding your ball! I am an intermediate golfer who has played over thirty courses in the DMV. I could not wait for this round of golf to end. This course may interest some but I hated it!
Shake off the rust
Great for practicing controlled shots. It’s a very short course, but tight. The fairways are only 17-20 yards wide. The rough is thick - right now at least. Greens are pretty slow, but in good shape. Easy 3.5 hour walk. No range. No putting green. No need to come early. Take a two off number one.
Great Municipal course
Greendale is one of the best of the municipal courses in the area. $49 is a good price for a Friday afternoon tee time on a course of this quality. Greens and fairways are maintained well. It might not provide the views or amenities of a Stonewall or Westfields, it is a solid round with a friendly staff that keeps things moving on time.
Stay away!!! Run away!
Easily the worst golf course in Northern Virginia...if you've ever teed it up and putted on a construction site, you'll feel right at home. I am furious that anyone would take my money, knowing what lunarscape this place is!
Play only if you MUST
Played here 5 times, will probably never play Greendale again. For nearly $60 on a weekend, you would expect more than what you get. No driving range, very rude and unpleasant staff (Starters especially) and extremely poorly kept. The greens are the slowest greens I have ever played and I've played some true dog tracks. If you don't check in 30 minutes before your tee time, they give you slot away - because, you know, getting to a course early to sit and wait with no practice range is ideal. The layout is decent and you can put up a number if you can ever hit a putt hard enough. Clubhouse is pathetic. If you're looking for rude, bossy folks and terrible playing conditions this place is for you!
Condtions much better this year
In 2013 the greens and fairways were in awful shape but yesterday (6-6-14) they were much improved. Greens were very smooth and uniform. My only complaint with this entertaining course is the way they mow the fairways. Although they look wide from the tee, only the center 30 yards or so is closely mowed. 20 yards on either side is a "first cut" in which the ball nestles down, making the second shot tough if you don't "improve your lie," i.e. cheat. To the outsides of the first cut is usually dense woods that you can't even enter to look for a ball.
Great Public Course
I enjoyed nearly every aspect of my round at Greendale aside from the score I posted. Every physical aspect of the course was in fine working order; the greens, the tee boxes, and the fairways were in great shape.
My only complains about the course were minor. First, this was a LONG course...or at least it felt that way having walked it. A few of the Par 4 holes were borderline Par 5 length so be warned that your score will suffer as a result. The second issue I had was with the flags in the middle of the fairway on doglegged holes. I'm sure the flag was meant to serve as a fairway marker, but I don't understand the point of them and just wish they'd taken them away.
Great Course For All Levels of Play
Great course for all levels of golfers in the Northern VA area. The fairways are open enough to let the driver go but if you let go too much, they can not be so forgiving as the trees and sand bunkers are near the greens. On this course, you have little room to hit off the fairways and still be able to recover for a decent score. Its probably best to play it safe and straight ball to stay close to par golf here.
year round home course weekly league
18 hole course. Nice and wide. You can use all your clubs. Greens are nice but very slow-but maintainded. Easily walked but I have been riding a lot lately. I play in the mighty mens league during the year. images to follow.
Great value and layout
I play this course often because it allows me to use a lot of different clubs. The layout is fantastic with one hated whole, #17, which must have been designed by a drunk. There are drainage issues on 2 holes, #12 and #13. The greens are slow and some really need work (#13 had tire tracks in it all summer long.) Despite those issues, it is a beautiful setting and is a big enough course at a reasonable price to work on your game. If you can score on this course, whether from the tips or mens tee, you can manage any course.
Pace of play can be pretty slow, so be patient. Overall can't beat the price.
ok
it was ok. that day got cold later time.broke my concentration, so i could't focus on the course, but i think course need some work has been done. i do go this course because near by my work. i will try again later.
Good course
The course was good, they where doing a lot of maintenance around the greens.
Good course layout, fairways well-maintained, greens visually maintained but too slow.
Course is well-maintained, pace of play was good. Some holes have blind approaches so good to have someone who's played there before. Greens are visually in good shape but play to slow.
Decent course for the price.
Greendale wasn't in great condition, but for the price it wasn't bad. Seemed pretty easy (straight, few hazards, pretty short), but was enjoyable.
the course is bout average
the course need maintained for a long time I have been paying, but the course still the same.
Has declined in 2013
I've played here a number of times in recent years and enjoy the sporty, not overly long, layout. However, tee, fairway and green conditions have declined this year. Course was a a bit overpriced and disappointing even with a $39 GolfNow rate. It's not worth the full rate in its current shape. Good place to walk or play nine after work, but take gimmees within 3 feet when the greens are as bad as they were twice this September.
