Great Course
One of the best in this area. Fred Cupples did a good job in designing it. Well maintained and professionally managed.
..mellow, mellow...
Basically a fairly long but mellow woods course.
6800-7200 yds from the back tees, 121 slope.
Mostly flat and straight. The front 9 is a junior-golf version of the back 9, and the back9 is a decent 9 hole course. It does get a little tricky in that it has a fair number of blind shots on the par5s and you need to stay near the center of the fairway if you're going to hit long balls to where you can't see them coming down and stopping. Or the balls will go into the woods...into the leaves...and you will have no idea where and they'll disappear in two dimensions. Something that you'll learn real quick just by spinning a couple of long irons. Off the tee, from the back tees there are enough holes with long forced carries over waste to be a challenge...again the key is to pick the short side of the waste and keep the ball in play as much as possible. This often means sacrificing distance to the green in order to keep the ball in play, but the course is not long enough to really hurt much in this regard. Most of the holes are reachable in regulation even from the back tees as long as the ball stays in the fairway.
Probably #2 and #16 are outstanding challenges, maybe the back is slightly above-average in terms of difficulty, but basically this is a "drive and shoot" woods course. An easy-enough round for most players. It does not have much in the way of views to recommend it but at least there are almost no houses on the course.
mellow, mellow with a hint of spice
This is an ok course, woods-style, I'd characterize it as a bit long (playing from the back tees) but still fairly easy. Big trees, regular blind shots but no crazy doglegs or fairways except #16 which is undoubtedly a challenging hole...the main thing is to just keep the ball near the middle of the fairway and out of the rough near the greens. The only really tough hole on the front is the 280yd par #3. Front side is really just a decent 9 hole walk in the park, very flat, wide-open greens, not much in the way of waste or forced carries. The back 9 amps it up and is a good challenge. It still never really gets hard but it does give the player a chance to bite off more than they can chew and hit into trouble. It is still a fairly benign course. Course seems to be an ok round but still a bit over-priced, overblown for what it gives, nothing really scenic about it...but virtually no houses and a guaranteed peaceful round.
Nice amenities, good clubhouse, definitely an upscale place.
Must play course!
This is a really nice course! Greens are super fast and fairways challenging. On the short side from middle tees but don't be foled by that. It's still hard to score well.
Only negative is the price. $110 for a weekend is too high vs other similar courses.
Great course
Always is great shape. Leaves made it tough but that's fall golf. Definite recommend to others
Not a house in sight
westfields has some of the best employees in the business. The course is in terrific shape and every single hole is different. I could talk all day about the good. Todd and Ken in the fitting studio are simply the best. It has a private club feel. You will see a bunch of wildlife on the course because it was carved into a forest. I put this course at the top of the list for private club atmosphere for sure. My one and only gripe about the entire experience is the amount of tournaments that they host. that sometimes makes walk on times a problem.
Good value if you can score a cheaper afternoon rate
Managed to score a $63 tee time at 1:10pm, which made this course a good value. Tees, greens and fairways were in great shape. Lots of fallen leaves but only in the trees - not on the tees, fairways or greens - the sign of a well-maintained course.
My friends and I will be back as often as we can score a decent tee time and rate - the full fare of $90+ is a little steep...
Great Experience
We played yesterday and for the first time a marshal came out due to slow play by the group in front of us, and let our group jump ahead. We finished the round in 3 1/2 hours while the other group ended up 4 holes behind us. Great move.
This course is a great value.
Golf plus range for one price...narrow fairways lined with trees beware of the poison ivy in the woods
Beautiful Course
Very enjoyable round of golf. Teed off 1:00PM on a Wednesday. Course was in mid-Aug condition - everything good but not great. Greens a little bumpy and wet from all the heat and humidity lately, with less density than desirable. Tees in ok shape, fairways and bunkers fine.
The course is visually very attractive and the overall amenities are first class. Playing from the white tees was not sufficiently challenging, as most of the traps or other hazards did not come into play. In that sense, it reminds us that this is a "resort-style" course, designed to promote pace of play and sense of accomplishment for the guests.
All-In-all, though, an excellent round and I would play again often at GolfNow rate
Come play here
The price for the round was up there for a public course, but you definitely got what you paid for. The cost included limitless range balls and a cart, so really it was a good value. All the staff were super friendly and attentive, and they were great about getting you out and letting you know about everything going on with the course. Plenty of staff going around keeping up the pace of play. Definitely could've finished the round in under 4 hrs under optimal conditions. Greens ran true, and for the most part the fairways and rough were in good condition. Would play here again.
Great Experience
From the moment you arrive at the bag drop you get private club treatment at this public course. The course is moderately challenging. There are no holes I consider "tricked out." And aside from a couple of bunkers needing work after a lot of rain during the two days before I played, the course was in great shape.
Great first time
Very good experience - from arrival until I drove away. Very attentive and friendly staff. Course is fair and not quirky like some other local courses. From the end of July I found the course to be in above average shape for the DC area. Good online deal from Golf now too. Shot an 86 which was an appropriate score. Could have been better, but several 3 putts until last 6 holes.
Great Course and Customer Service
I have played many courses in Northern Va, might go as far to say all of them that are public. This place has the best customer service, from the time you get out of your car to the time you leave, your treated with the respect you deserve as a paying customer. Customer Service is a lost cause for the most part in the DMV area, so wif you want to remember what its like, visit Westfields. As for the course, its as good as any high end public course.
Always Fun
This course is really great. Although it rained the night before the course was in good condition.
Should be a private country club
I have played this course a few times and never had a bad experience. It is a good mix of a challenge and a good afternoon. Looking forward to the next time I get out there.
Greens
The practice green is great. Nothing like the greens on the course
Great course. Greens were perfect
The course is in great shape. The greens were fast and green. Rough is a touch high at 4 in so keep it straight.
